According to various reports and Swansea's move to re-sign Wilfried Bony from Manchester City, Chelsea have once again have an eye on a £15m move for Fernando Llorente ahead of the transfer deadline this Thursday.
It's a report that had previously appeared at the end of last season and seems to have some real substance to it. The link between Llorente and Antonio Conte is genuine because of their Juventus connection but, I have to say, if the move for Llorente is to replace Michy Batshuayi then I think we are making a mistake as I would rather have the Belgian here than the Spaniard.
The interest from Conte to link up with someone who has played for him before could be for a totally different reason, to come here and be a part of our squad and to be ready when called upon because he will not get a regular first team start. That's where all this talk of a move for the Swansea striker confuses me because although he has a chance of playing in the Champions League, why would you give up a regular first team start when you are fit?
Reports that Paul Clement is trying to re-sign Wilfried Bony could have consequences for Llorente because although he has proven to be excellent in the air, he is by not mobile enough up front for the Premier League compared to someone like Bony or even Batshuayi for that matter.
If we are looking at Llorente to come and be a part of our squad and he wants to join then so be it. I wouldn't understand the move as I have already explained but fair enough. I just hope it's not to replace Michy Batshuayi!
Could we see this deal happening before the deadline? What do you people think of a move for Llorente?

At £15m in today's mad market I actually think Llorente offers good value for money. He would provide a good focal point for a change of style to a more direct approach should we have the desire/need.
ReplyDeleteDespite the above, I really would like to see a change in our transfer policy (no, this isn't going to be another Emanalo rant). We're very fortunate to have such funds available to spend and I certainly wouldn't be looking to spend any more, simply to change the way it is spent.
I would like to see us only go for players that would take us to the next level and make better use of our youth. Purely as an example, and no criticism of any purchases we have or may make, instead of Morata, Chamberlain and Drinkwater, we could have spent the money on Mbappe and utilised Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah. There are other options/examples but you get the gist.
Just a thought.......
