According to various reports, Chelsea have agreed a fee with Leicester to sign hard-working midfielder Danny Drinkwater. The fee is worth over £30m and will be completed before Thursday's deadline.
It's been on the cards for a month or so now but Antonio Conte's seems close to completing a move for one of his transfer targets in the coming days with Danny Drinkwater heading to Stamford Bridge. Although not everyone's cup of tea at the moment, it could prove to be an excellent addition to our squad.
Think back to Drinkwater and Kante's partnership at Leicester that played a key role in their title win against all odds at 5000-1. Both formed such an instinctive and impressive partnership and the boss could have on eye on those two repeating their performances again but this time in a Chelsea shirt.
I understand that people will moan and groan to the point where they will not be impressed with the signing because he isn't a big name being spoken of around Europe. I understand that based on the coverage some of these players receive but it's important to note that one player does not make a team, you need good players that are willing to work hard for the manager and for each other, that's what is important.
Danny Drinkwater fits the bill for me as one of our two defensive, deep-lying midfielders and also gives Antonio Conte an option to switch formation. He works his arse off in games breaking up play, closing people down and will then look to build on possession of the ball moving it forward as quickly as possible. People like him are like gold-dust in the game and if we can manage to get this deal done then he would be an excellent acquisition.
With the schedule of games we have this season, Antonio Conte will need virtually everyone in the squad and having Drinkwater here to compete with the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas will only improve the options we have and hopefully bring the best out in him and those around him.
Mark my words, he will prove to be an excellent signing.

I have no problem with Drinkwater not being a "big name" nor would I dispute the fact that he has a good worth ethic and links well with Kante. The problem I have is that he's unlikely to play in the more important games and the size of the fee. Buy Drinkwater and sell Matic for £40m is madness.
