We are all aware of the stories in the media of late, linking Chelsea with a number of strikers in the game. Being the summer, rumours are always rife but in the last couple of days it seems as though they have intensified.

I have to be honest, I don't think we need another striker at the club this season.

We have seen over recent seasons the introduction of rotation within our squad. Look at Didier Drogba for example. Towards the end of last season, with a run of games and big games at that, he found his form and scored important goals.

When he was being chopped and changed from week to week, it was difficult for him to get going. Look at his last couple of seasons at the club. In our double winning season of 2009/10 Drogba played 44 games and scored 37 goals in all competitions. He was the main man here and virtually knew he would be playing week in, week out.

In 2010/2011 he featured in 46 games and scored only 13 times and you have to remember this included the arrival of Fernando Torres at the club and he wasn't starting every week.

Finally last season, Drogba featured in 35 games and scored 13 goals, again rotating with Torres.

The case for sticking with a main man is there for all to see and this is the time I really believe that Fernando Torres will really bed in at our club. He has received assurances from Roman Abramovich that he IS the number one now and I am 100% certain that Torres could go onto score 25-30 goals this term.

Obviously, we need to keep him fit but the reason I believe that we do not need to go after another striker is because we have the raw talents of Danny Sturridge and Romelu Lukaku backing him up and giving Di Matteo other options.

Sturridge wants to play through the middle and I believe he will get his chance but playing second fiddle to Torres. If we need a game changer, then Sturridge is the man to come on and use his pace to give us something different in that way.

In Lukaku, we have his physical presence up front and he will provide something different to Torres and Sturridge completely.

For me it seems as though it's the right time this season to focus on Torres as our main striker and giving the other two the knowledge that they will also feature this season.

Whether or not both of them will be happy being on the bench is another thing, but with Lukaku especially being more involved, this season could provide us with a major breakthrough in the lads confidence.

So what do you people think? Am I talking complete nonsense or do I have a point?

  1. This is a nice article and you are completely right.we have enough fire power up front all we need now is midfield creativity.Chelsea doesn't need another striker

  2. true, we really don't need another striker. But it seems Lukaku will be leaving loan.

  3. I have always maintain the same opinion. It really buoys me that someone eventually airs it. Players happiness is central to their performance. Should chelsea buy another out-and-out-striker, it will kill Torres' morale as well as the younger strikers who themselves are vying for a place in the first team. With the addition of a true winger on the right flank, and a deep lying playmaker (Pirlo-like), Torres and the young strikers will take chelsea to stardom.

  4. It's annoying how people are forgetting about Rambo. Going forward I think he has the Right sided position covered, don't waste almost 40 mil on hulk when what we really need is that pirlo/alonso-esque playmaker to play deep so we can give mikel the boot. Even at RB we might be alright if Hutch can continue his miraculous recovery. We have to stop stifling the opportunities of the youth

    1. Give Mikel the boot? My friend,That guy was one of the best defensive midfielders in England last season.People dont seem to give him the crediy he deserves because he doesnt assist much, but ow many assists does pirlo have all seasons? He only controls the middle of the park and allows the flow of the game to his more creative player, which mikel is doing well enough. And he is even growing again? I bet u no one can rival Mikel for the position?.Do U think its by coincidence that No chelsea coach has dropped him thus far? They understand what they need from him.

    2. There's no doubt that last season was his best for us seeing as we spent the tail end of last season making camp on the edge of our own box for 88 mins a game and was a rock against Munich but lets not forget his performances when we're trying to break down tough teams who we outclass player for player. In games like that I swear he thinks he's playing rugby, you don't see him make a forward pass, they're always 5 yard balls sideways and he has to take at least 2 touches before he moves it. You never see a quality long or quick ball that that impacts the game going forward (like lamps' peach against barca to set away Rambo) I jus think if we want to be a world class team who play good football then we're gonna need more creativity from deep, how much longer can frank go on?

  5. Well, I AGREE with you that we need NOT an Out&Out Striker. But the decision not to send Lukaku on loan is risky! Cos I think he needs to START about 20 games next season! So if we buy a sure starter like Hulk on the Right wing then he MUST be sent on loan, if not, then he should be 2nd ONLY to Torres while Sturg makes the right wing his!

  6. What you are saying is the best option, we don't need another striker for sure TORRES can do all the JOB so please believe in Him

  7. Well we need hulk our team right now can match any domestic team but we can't beat city playing well we would have ti defend for long periods and playing with the sort of flair mid fielders and wingers we have we wouldn't be able to defend well and we can't match the likes of Madrid,Barca snd the re branded Juventus. Tell you guys ђã†‎ sell Malouda, and Yossi get Modric, sell Mikel and get Felani and now were at i̶̲̥̅̊†̥̥, buy the F**king Hulk for crying out loud so when we defend our titles we won't do i̶̲̥̅̊†̥̥ defending we would defend i̶̲̥̅̊†̥̥ in an attacking manner and with Barca kind of swagger, we would be better than Man Utd, Arsenal, Tothenham, Newcastle and don't forget Liverpool cos i recon they would be ɑ̤̥̈̊ challenge team †ђi̶̲̥̅̊§ season and we would be able to match the likes of Man City for domestic honors and in Europe, Real and Barca won't be ɑ̤̥̈̊ problem i assure you. Tnx

I would really want the owner of this blog to analyse the Functioning of Mikel nd his abilities and capabalities to people.dthey dont seem to know his worth.

  11. Chelseadaft, can You please do me a favour? Can U kindly analyze the functioning nd Importance of Mikel to chelsea and the reason Why nobody will b better than him in d defensive midfield position that he plays for chelsea.Comparing him to other defensive midfielders in the world over and why Noone would suit chelsea game better than him? People dont really understand that guy and Why essien no matter how fit from now cant bench Mikel? IMO the only person close to Benching mikel @ chelsea is Romeu, which I very much doubt..........Please kindly analyse Mikel for em.....I do belif all of us watched The champions league final.?

    1. Come on, when Essen was at his peak (the likes of which I doubt we'll ever see again) he was one of the best midfielders in the world, only reason him and mikel often played together is because we needed his danger going forward more than we needed his sweat n' blood permornces in a defensive role. The man could do everything - pass, tackle, run, take people on.... Such a shame to watch his demise, we lost a great player to injuries there, hopefully he continues to get fit and get back some of that class.

    2. please my friend to tell You the truth,Passes is one of the weakness of Essien...you can talk abt him Runnin, tacklin attackin and not tiring....but passes, excuse me Essien hasnt got that......He is only an engine room although i do not dispise his workrate nd what he brings to the team.

  12. add drogba, torres nd sturidge goal together nd compared with messi,c 7,vp,aguero.we need striker badly.sturidge play selfish game why lukaku nt inform.let go for falcao pls.

  13. As for me i have my own idear to be frank wit u all, we need a striker like halk to join torres. Lukaku can't ballance a game while sturidge dnt like to giv a passing. So why dnt we look for major striker to join torres? If u watch our final against bayarn if not only torres no one can put them on run. If truely abramovit want a retain of uefa CL nest season then he has to fight for halk. As for MIKEL he is of the best mildfielder in the world don't conpare him wit essien he is givin out his best

  14. There is no question that we need another striker.chelsea as a big club, can not play with only one established striker.sturridge should be allowed to go;he thinks football is a one man affair! and his workrate is too low.chelsea is building a brand, and anybody not serious for the cause should go! and in any big club there is always competition for places and chelsea is not an exception! anybody that needs pampering should go.

  15. Tank u my guy jare, u're saying d truth. Chelsea really need striker badly, even wingers cos i dnt see a winger at d team right nw. And u people are talking of sturridge & lukaku, is it sturridge dat's a selfish player wen is on d pitch or lukaku who did nt av confidence wen he hold d ball, abeg my chelsea fans there we need striker nd winger pls 2 let us knw d quality nd wat torres is having 4 us. Cos someone av 2 work 4 him, i tink chelsea still av some material players dat can play dis role in chelsea youth, lik islam feruz & piazon 2 d senior team. I tink dat will b better dan waisting money 2 buy a striker.

  16. Mikel thinks he's better than he really is. He has little control and only passes sideways or backwards and is often caught in possession.

  17. Alot of quite obvious football manager / armchair / johnny come lately comments from very grammatically challenged individuals.

Can agree with the view that we do not require another finished article striker, but comparing our options at CF to other top teams in country we come up short. Arsenal are the only ones in the real top 4 that have one proper striker, and look how reliant they became on him last season. The fact he played almost every game speaks volumes, while I believe Torres will come good, I think that is a view based on former glories and not what we have seen. The creative signings of Hazard and Marin should hopefully address that though.

    1. Slow down, don't forget Studge who's dying to get a chance to play through the middle and showed early last season that he has bags of quality for such a young man. He may be too greedy and lazy to play on the wing but I think with substantial game time playing as our CF he will with no doubt in my mind that he outclasses Danny Wellbeck by miles. Not forgetting Lukaku who's not far off being ready to be unleashed on the prem, a little work on his ball control and tactical awareness and we've got that position covered for the next 10 years.

I agree with you about the likes of Hazard and Mata bringing more creativity into the side and certainly helping Torres improve but don't get your hopes up about Marin. He's been bought as a bench warmer and unless he shows he can regain the potential he showed 6 years ago in a league much harder than the one he was in... He'll most likely make less that 10 prem starts this season.

  18. 100% true, after the departure of didier drogba, TORRES should be our number one striker. And a loan for romelu lukaku to an english club will provide him a lot of experience ,exacttly like danny welbeck.

I agree with you, if lukaku or sturridge go on loan then we can use Hulk as a striker too, if we get him.
