"CHELSEA still have a formidable collection of players"

As expected with the Premier League season less than two weeks away, various newspapers and the media are having their say on Chelsea and everybody else and it's an interesting read. One of these articles is featured in The Sun this morning and it has stated the following:

Good enough to win title?
THE managerial upheaval seems to have let Manchester United steal a march on Chelsea in rejuvenating their squad this summer.

But you would still back Chelsea above Manchester City to be the strongest challengers to United.

Weaknesses
TOO many of their key players are well into their 30s.

And an abundance of average foreign squad players leaves Villas-Boas with little room to manoeuvre in the transfer market this month.

Strengths
CHELSEA still have a formidable collection of players who know what it takes to win the Premier League.

And they are highly motivated to achieve success again after last season's alarming slump.

What else is needed?
A WORLD-CLASS playmaker to help bring the best out of Fernando Torres is Chelsea's priority.

Tottenham's Luka Modric has been earmarked to provide the creative touch and attacking flair in the danger areas.

I know some of you will wholeheartedly agree with these comments and some of you won't, but what makes me laugh is the fact that the article contradicts itself.

It's states as our "weakness" that too many of our players are over 30 but then soon afterwards states that we have a "Formidable collection of players who know what it takes to win the Premier League!".

Surely that speaks for itself doesn't it?.

I really think you can't buy experience in football and to have a strong squad you need the experienced players to provide a balance. United could suffer with losing the likes of Scholes, Wes Brown and John O'Shea when it comes to the crunch with injuries etc.

You can't tell me that Ashley Young and Phil Jones have experience of winning the Premier League or at least fighting up there in the top four and Champions League each season. United could get found out like we did if they get a whole host of injuries and suspensions at the same time.

I like the fact that it only seems as though Chelsea will be selling one or two players as it keeps the fluidity amongst the players. Players know each others games and have been there and done it. Also, I want to know who they mean when they say we have "an abundance of average foreign players".

Again another contradiction from The Sun but pretty much par for the course as this article was probably done in a hurry to meet a deadline anyway!

As for looking for a "world class creative midfielder" I have said it before and will say it again but Modric is hardly that is he!
