Fergie ruling out January signings for United?

Sitting five points behind Chelsea and with the Wayne Rooney saga behind him, Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that United will not be signing any players in the January transfer window. He said:

"We won't be buying in January, definitely not. If you want someone to play in Europe, you are limited right away. There are hundreds of players cup-tied. You have five to six months left of the season,".

I did find this interesting as Rooney stated that he wanted assurances from the club that there are plans to develop the squad in the future.

With Rooney missing at the moment, Ferdinand deciding whether or not he wants to be declared fit from week to week and Valencia out till February it comes as a surprise that he doesn't plan on bringing anyone in bearing in mind they are five points behind us already.

I may be jumping the gun here but I get the impression that Chelsea have just begun to tighten their grip on the title. Even now in the title race United can't afford any slip ups!.
