Just five games into the Premier League season and everyone has gone mad throwing superlatives at Pep Guardiola's Manchester City and Jose Mourinho's Manchester United to claim the title is heading back up North!
Every single City or United fan you come across at work or just out and about is getting more than carried away with themselves at the moment. Winning games, scoring goals and already on top of their games (apparently) they are going to walk the league this season.
Whether it's Manchester City's fantastic attacking options now and their goals or Manchester United's attack led by the free-scoring Romelu Lukaku, everyone including those in the media have decided to jump on the band-wagon despite the fact that we have only played FIVE games!
So to Antonio Conte who was speaking ahead of our Carabao Cup game against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge tonight. He was asked of the (supposed) blistering start that both the Manchester clubs have made and he responded by saying:
"You know very well that, in England, there are six top teams. Manchester’s teams are in these six teams. It’s normal.
It’s normal for United and City to be competitive and to fight for the title and the other competitions. It’s normal. My idea of football is to be a team, and then the team try to extract the characteristics of the individual players.
Now we are recovering Hazard after a bad injury, and recovering Pedro after a bad start to the season with injuries. We’re trying to face difficult situations, bad situations — Cahill three games of suspension, and now David Luiz...
When you are a team, you can face this type of situation in the right way. I’m sure about this. But now it’s not important. We have to stay there and try and do our best. At the end of the season, we’ll see what happens.
The best way is to look at ourselves. This is the best way. We have to continue to work together to try and improve. You know very well the difficulty of this league, to win this league. Last season we did this. But, for sure, we want to try and fight until the end [again].” - Source: The Mirror.
If you look at who both teams have played to this point then it comes as no surprise that they are up at the top of the Premier League just ahead of Chelsea.
City have played Brighton, Everton, Bournemouth, Liverpool and Watford. But for the Liverpool game (and we all saw how bad the Scousers were) you would expect City to beat those sides (no disrespect), Everton's performance at The Etihad was good on the night to get a draw.
United have played West Ham, Swansea, Leicester, Stoke and Everton. Being harsh, they should have won them all.
As for Chelsea, we have played Burnley, Tottenham, Everton, Leicester and Arsenal - which you will note includes TWO of the top six teams in the League and we face Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on the 30th of September. That game will be another measure on where both teams find themselves at the current time and will be interesting to see.
The Premier League is a marathon and not a sprint despite what those in Manchester believe at the moment! Make sure you bet on Chelsea to repeat their title win!
As Antonio Conte says - At the end of the season, we'll see what happens!
