Loic Remy hasn't had the best of fortunes since he joined Chelsea back in 2014 and it's being reported that Chelsea are looking to offload him on the cheap this summer.
It was at Marseille having signed from Nice back in 2010 that Loic Remy really came to the fore. In just over two seasons, Remy had scored 39 goals in 95 appearances for the French side before he joined Queens Park Rangers in January 2013 for a fee of £10m. He scored 6 goals in 14 appearances that year but had caught the attention of Newcastle who signed in on loan for the 2013/14 season.
It was there that he really impressed and had seemed to find himself again scoring 14 goals in 27 games for the Geordie's. He subsequently returned to QPR for the following season but Chelsea stepped in and activated the £10.5m release clause he had inserted into his contract.
The problem Loic Remy has had, as most backup strikers have when they agreed to join the club, is that the team is built around one person up front. For over a decade it was Didier Drogba and to this point it has been around Diego Costa. Remy like Demba Ba was never going to force his way ahead of the number one man at the club and had to accept his role here. To his credit he has and made an important impact in games at times when called upon.
Remy has played just 47 games for Chelsea, scoring 12 times for the club but if we are all honest here, he was never going to the be the striker that Chelsea are looking for as we rely so much on someone big and strong to dominate their defenders, to hold the ball up and bring others into play. That's not Remy's game as he likes to play off of the shoulder of the last defender as we have seen on numerous occasions.
I can totally understand the reports coming out of Chelsea that he does not fit into Antonio Conte's plans and will be sold this summer.
I wish him well but it was never meant to be.
