Chelsea are set to receive a transfer fee that is being reported at around £16m from Lyon for the services of Betrand Traore.
It's a massive amount of money for a player who had a fantastic season with Ajax last term, with Vitesse Arnhem two seasons ago and someone who had showed in our first team glimpses of what he could do before that.
There is and will always be an argument about bring these players through the ranks of which I understand. He has more than proven his worth when he plays regular football scoring goals wherever he has been including in our first team as I mentioned.
The problem for Traore is that he is faced (at present) with the likes of Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi ahead of him to try and get any sort of look-in for a place in Antonio Conte's plans. Is he better than Costa? No he isn't. Is he better than Batshuayi? No he isn't. So what other choice does the club have?
The 21-year-old is the subject of plenty of interest from clubs in Europe but it's Lyon that have made their intentions clear as they are already in advanced negotiations over the massive fee. Expect a deal to be announced shortly.
What do you think of Traore?

Costa just HAS to go and Batshuayi may also depart, We need a proven quality replacement for Costa but there should be room for Traore. Now we're back in Europe we'll need three strikers to compete.
ReplyDeleteWe always sell players before they're given a decent chance to prove themselves with us and, largely thanks to Emanalo, they're sold at the wrong price. £16m might seem a lot but just look at some of those we've offloaded at a "good price" recently and what they're valued at today. Lukaku, De Bruyne, Bertrand, Salah, Cudrado; and all with no sell on fee or buy back clause. How about we keep Traore and let Emanalo go on a free?.......
But who would take him even on a ;Free;Norman ? I,m afraid we will just have to put up with the pr/hype CFC put out in defence of this guy..I must be losing the/plot as I can,t see it.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right of course. I'm completely wasting my time, and the time of others who read my posts, in continuing to reiterate my view on Emanalo.
DeleteI guess I should switch focus onto my own inability to let matters drop but I may need therapy to achieve that.
