According to reports, Jose Mourinho has made Willian one of his top summer transfer targets having watched him a number of times this season, and is preparing to offer Chelsea £35m for his services.
Initially we read that and scoff based on how badly Manchester United are doing at the moment compared to Chelsea with now guaranteed Champions League football back at Stamford Bridge next season. However, we have to be honest, think back to recent weeks and it's clear that Willian has become a frustrated man under Antonio Conte.
Think back to Wembley against Tottenham having scored two goals to then be substituted when you have already had a massive influence on the game. Willian as we all witnessed stormed off down the tunnel and only re-appeared on the bench later in the half in a very public show of frustration which was picked up by the TV coverage that day.
We have to be honest and think that it's been a very difficult season for Willian this time around. The devastating loss of his mother, injury and finding himself not being able to hold down a regular starting position in the team, it's a far cry from last year as Willian stood out from everyone else as being the only person to have had a decent year and rightly won the Player of the Year award.
He is such a class act that it's ridiculous to think that we could possibly lose him. Pedro has had a fantastic season so far and deserves to be starting games at the moment ahead of Willian which is hard to admit. When Willian has started or come on in games, he has been decisive on a number of occasions with his quality on the ball, his pace and his eye for goals.
The report suggests that Jose Mourinho is willing to offer Willian big money and guaranteed regular first team football at Old Trafford. The question is, would he be willing to consider leaving this time around having rejected his previous advances last summer?
Willian is different class and has been ever since he arrived at Chelsea. I really hope there is nothing in these reports and he is here next season.
What do you think of Willian, his season this time around and of reports linking him with Manchester United?
