The fall-out from the first half of our season continues. Eden Hazard has told close friends he will leave Chelsea this summer. With his idol Zidane in charge of Real Madrid expect Hazard to sign in the summer.
It's such a sad state of affairs it really is but one that the club now needs to be wary of. Chelsea are in a precarious position if they do not quality for the Champions League and being honest, it's a massive ask for us to do so this season. We are going to have to win it again to ensure we qualify next season!
So to Hazard and a step back in time six months ago. Premier League Winner, League Cup Winner, Player of the season, PFA Player of the Year and scoring goals left, right and centre. Eden Hazard signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea worth a reported £200,000 per week!
Step forward to today and he is injured for the second time in recent weeks, hasn't scored a single goal this season, has fallen out with he previous manager and has decided that's it, he is leaving.
I must stress that this report has come from the press and could be pure speculation based on the fact that Zidane, Hazard's idol, has taken over from Rafa Benitez at Real Madrid. Both has spoken in admiration of each other on record with Zidane quoted recently as saying:
"After Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Hazard is my favourite player. It is spectacular to see him play.
Do I see him going to Real Madrid? I love the player, that's all I will say."
The same press report indicates that Chelsea would be looking for a fee of around £90m this summer if Hazard has decided to quit the club. With him being a year into his new five-year deal, we could see the fee rise even higher to around the £100m mark for the 24-year old Belgian.
I love Eden Hazard and his pure, natural ability with the ball at his feet but I do have a concern over what he describes as his favourite position - "The Number Ten Role".
For me you do not get the same level of performance or influence in that position than you would when he plays out wide. Hazard is so much better at being given the ball to feet with time and space to face his opponent to then go forward and take him on.
With his back to goal and someone up his arse, he doesn't have the time and space to face his opponent and he often loses possession of the ball or it just doesn't stick with him because he has little space to work with.
A real feature of Hazard's play this season has been him almost having licence to roam around the pitch and to say he has been nowhere near as effect as last season is an understatement.
There is however, an outside chance that he could stay here if Guus Hiddink can turn things around and with the help of Didier Drogba, to get Hazard focused back on Chelsea to do what he does best between now and the end of the season. It's a long shot especially if someone like Madrid comes calling.
What do you people think about Hazard this season? Do you agree with my point of view about him playing as a number ten rather than out wide?
