I say it's a stunning double deal because the figure that has been quoted is ridiculous considering that both of these signings will struggle to get into our first team this season!!
According to various reports today, Chelsea are about to wrap up a £50m double deal to bring Baba Rahman and John Stones to Stamford Bridge as Jose Mourinho has convinced the Chelsea board that reinforcements ARE required!
Baba Rahman's agent has virtually confirmed that his client has already agreed personal terms on a move to Stamford Bridge. All that remains is for Chelsea and his parent club to agree a fee and the deal will be done.
Some reports have quoted figures around the £17.7m mark but I believe it will be closer to the £20m mark once everything has been finalised.
As for John Stones? Well, after TWO failed bids previously, it looks as though Everton have named their price at £30m and Jose Mourinho has convinced the Chelsea board to pay the fee.
That's a hell of a lot of money for someone so young and in my opinion, someone who is still quite raw but as I have said before, John Terry is talking of having two more seasons left in him so now would be the perfect time for Stones to come in and learn from the Legend.
So what of these two and their first team chances this season? I personally would find it hard for BOTH of them to try and force their way in this season!
Jose Mourinho trusts his back four completely and relies on Branislav Ivanovic at right back, Gary Cahill and John Terry at centre back and Cesar Azpilicueta at left back. They have become almost set in stone and the solid foundation our Premier League success was based on last season.
Both are signings for the future and will feature in the lesser games (if we can actually say that anymore!) and the Cup games this season. Is that going to enough considering the massive outlay?
What do you people think of both signings and of the massive fee's involved for what will be squad players this season? Is there anyone else in those positions that you would have liked to see Chelsea try and sign this summer instead?
