Tomorrow at Wembley in the Community Shield, all eyes will be focused on Petr Cech in goal for Arsenal in his first competitive start for his new club. Branislav Ivanovic hopes he gets a good reaction from the Chelsea fans.
Speaking ahead of the game he said:
"I hope they will give respect to him because he deserves it.
For 90 minutes the fans will support us for sure, they will be on our side. “Before and after the game, I hope and I'm sure, they will give Petr respect.
Petr knows us very well and for him it will be much more difficult mentally to play against the club he loves.
It will be a very interesting game for him and how he prepares to play against us. But we know how good he is and how difficult it will be to score against him. We will try to do everything.
I have seen him many times over the years make big saves to help us. He gave a lot to everyone at Chelsea.
We can be proud for the rest of our lives because of the part Petr played in our success. This is in the past now and things have changed, things are different. He will want to beat us to the trophy now, but we want it as well.
We have experienced before with Lampard at Manchester City last season and Didier with Galatasaray the season before.
We knew how much they would give to their new sides and Petr will be the same. So we have to be ready and know how strong we have to be.
Despite Petr's affection for the club, he obviously won't be looking to do us any favours."
I honestly believe that he will receive a rapturous reception from the Chelsea faithful and anything other than that is not acceptable. For what he has given to our club, for the years of service, for what he has helped our club achieve from where we found ourselves previously, he deserves nothing but respect.
I said it at the time he was leaving that he should be given our blessing to do what he wants now. He was given the right to do so and that's fantastic from our club.
We have to remember that he had lost his place to Courtois and was officially the backup Goalkeeper last season so we have to accept that he wants to play regularly. I have no problem with that.
In saying that, just as it was as Ivanovic said, seeing Drogba and Lampard up against us was strange and it will be the same tomorrow.
There are ten other people playing for Arsenal tomorrow, not just Petr Cech and Jose Mourinho will prepare his team to go out there and get the job done.
After the game, no matter the result, I hope he receives another fantastic reception from all around the ground because he deserves it!
