Chelsea fans around the world are reading report and rumour linking Chelsea with some of the biggest names in European Football in this transfer window. I am asking YOU the Chelsea fan reading this post of Chelsea's chances if we sign no one during the January window!
Now many of you would have seen some of these reports and my take on those rumours here on my blog (if you haven't, click the homepage link at the top and scroll down the page to have a look!). We have been linked with all sorts of names such as Lewandowski, Rooney, Alonso, Balotelli and more!
As yet nothing has happened in the window and if we refer back to comments made by Jose Mourinho earlier in the season, he stated that he wouldn't be doing any business at this stage and is happy with the players he has at the club.
In saying that though, how many of you people remember Jose stating that all managers "lie" in the transfer window and always look to improve their squads!
It's in recent weeks that the manager has re-iterated the fact that he is looking to make two critical signings in the summer to take the team forward and you would imagine those players are not people the club believe they can sign in this transfer window.
So based on the fact that we will have to wait until the summer and on the constant reports linking Chelsea with these players and nothing happening I want to know how you people feel about the current squad.
If you look at our squad you cannot help but think it's strong. It's a squad blessed with talent and ability and in recent weeks we have seen the fruition of the hard work that's is being put in by everyone at the club.
We have had a fantastic festive period and are right up there in the title race and if anything, the players can only get better and better under Mourinho.
We have a manager that has been there and done it. A manager that has only ever finished either first or second in the league ever since he was in charge of Porto. Mourinho knows what it takes to win titles, we have players still here from his first spell in charge that know exactly what it takes and that should give us an advantage.
Our record against our title rivals in the first half of the season has been good. We have drawn and taken points at The Emirates, Old Trafford and White Hart Lane and have notched up two home wins against Manchester City and Liverpool. We just need to emulate or better those results in the return fixtures.
Overall, I am personally of the opinion that we are in good shape and as long as we can keep players fit, we have a good chance of giving Man City a run for their money. Yes I know our strikers haven't exactly hit the ground running and have been scoring goals regularly, but of late they have and that's a positive sign.
I still think that Manchester City will win the league (it's theirs to lose in all honesty) and you can check the latest betting reviews here, but if we can finish second and at least challenge them for as long as possible, that is good enough for me.
What do you people think? If Chelsea sign no one in this window, how do you see our chances of success this season?
I would like to hear as many opinions from Chelsea fans all over the world as possible on this!
Carefree & KTBFFH!
I think your assessment is a fair and accurate one.
ReplyDeleteI too believe Chelsea can finish second even if we don't sign any player this January, but I like us to fight for the title. However, this will be difficult if no player is signed in this January window. We need a free scoring striker, if possible this January, but if not, then everything must be done to ensure that the squad is reenforced in the summer
ReplyDeleteBeginning of the season, I would have taken a top 3 finish as a decent output from the season. We've been talking about the team being in Transition ever since Ancelloti left. In the two years that have followed, we have won a CL, a Europa League and a FA Cup. But considering there was barely any stability in those two years, I was totally contented to let this finally be the year of transition. You can see how Mourinho has at various intervals come out and said things like the best years of this team will be 5 years from now or how he cannot set targets for his players and has to keep the focus just on the next game. So this IS the year of transition. Having said that, I would still add the FA Cup and Semi Finals at CL as the goals of the season after looking at the performances this year. We have depth. They say De Bruyne may leave but I don't expect it to affect us too much.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, even if we don't sign a striker, but if we can sign a guy like Guarin, I think we could become really difficult to beat and that might have its relevance in the league race.
If we get a good striker, it will help us to contest for the title, if not we will end in top 3 or 4.
ReplyDeleteIf we were to not get anyone now and keep the exactly same squad (including de bruyne essien mata and luiz) then I think and feel that we will finish 2nd, thats providing arsenal DON'T buy Costa. If they do we will finish 3rd.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if we were to add Costa to our strikers and perhaps sell Ba so we keep with 3 strikers. Then we will finish 1st. Its really that simple.
