I have gone on record on here before and I will say it again, I AM a big fan of Mikel. He is like Marmite as in the fact that you either love him or you hate him. It's fair to say Chelsea fans are divided when it comes to Mikel and surely our recent defensive performances have proven just how much we take him for granted and just how much we miss him being there.
Mikel has a defensive instinct that no one else in the side has. Remember how Claude Makelele was the same? He always seemed to be in the right positions all over the pitch, closing people down, winning the ball back and to mop things up. Mikel in my opinion, is of the same mould.
He has his critics for his use of the ball and the timing of his passing but that isn't his game. He is asked to protect the area in front of the two centre halves, win the ball back and to give it to someone to start a counter attack. His primary function is to stop the opposition and win the ball back and we haven't had anyone there doing it.
Do you honestly believe that we would have allowed a two goal lead slip TWICE in recent weeks against Southampton and Reading if Mikel was in the side?
Hopefully the people that have doubted Mikel can now see just how important he is to the Chelsea team playing in this formation and like me, hope he comes back as soon as possible!.

Good talk, hw I wish we chelsea fans will look at Mikel from a different angle. We 've missed him so grately, hw I wish he will return ontime to save us from dis inconsistence. Up Chelsea.
ReplyDeleteMikel is the 2nd best defencive midfielder in the E.p.l afta yaya, too bad chelsea fans dont know this.
DeleteI am not really his fan but maybe you've got a point. This would probably not happen. And it just shows how much we lack quality in the double-pivot because we have to play Ramires next to Lampard - none of them is very good defensively.
ReplyDeleteNice One...Mikel is the best there. Olyday!!!
ReplyDeleteTake it or leave mikel has been one of the defensive mdifielder chelsea has ever had since claude makalele left.for now in chelsea he is the best in that position.you won't know the worth of a thing until you lost it!
ReplyDeletewe miss mikel?i dont knw how to reply to tat lol!but yes we miss having a good DM.to be honest im not a mikel fan,no one doubt mikel defending n his 100% ability to pass the ball back to defender.wat we r critical about mikel is going forward n passing it to striker n including scoring
ReplyDeleteHe's a dirty guy on duty... RDM saw what many wasn't able to see. Now seems like some are seeing right. I bet Rafa doesn't.
ReplyDeleteMikel listens to his manager, nd he delivers on his duty. We miss u there nd
U rock bro @JohnMikelObi
We really miss Mikel in Chelsea, Ramires and luiz cant play defensive midfield.., they both attack, most xpectially Luiz, force ball, and he also did a stupid mistake by passin 2 d opponent thru forcing ball, Mikel, we cnt wait 2 no 12, in chelsea. I want u 2 shw urself against cote'voire. U r d main Man.
ReplyDeletewe miss him but we'll contour untill after the nation cup cause his country will reach fine. RB is the worst coach i have seeing in the history of chelsea fc.
ReplyDeletebest article, read so far
ReplyDeleteadmin...please dont hope for him to come back soon because that will mean Nigeria losses the AFCON....maybe after winning the AFCON final and Mikel netting the last goal...He can come and play the rescue mission for chelsea.
