It's arguably Chelsea's biggest night since Moscow, two goals down with just 90 minutes to turn it round and up against one of the most lethal counter attacking forward lines in Europe right now. The question is who should Roberto Di Matteo decide starts the game?.
Di Matteo made an interesting point about his team selection against Stoke by more or less stating that he made the selection based on the opposition. He wanted to field a physical side to cope with Stoke which is why the likes of Luiz and Mata were dropped to the bench.
I can only imagine for this one, we are looking for the opposite!. We are looking for pace and skill in this one so expect Luiz and Mata to come back into the side. Whether or not Di Matteo decides to go with Drogba or the pace of Sturridge or Torres up front is up for discussion. For me, their back three are slow and laboured so I would go with pure pace in this one.
Because of their three up top I would stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation to shut the midfield down and stop balls being played into the likes of Cavani.
This lot ARE beatable and by a distance in my eyes. If we go for this but remain solid at the back and compact, we could score four or five tomorrow night and make a real statement of intent in the competition.
So for me, here is the eleven I would play:
Cech, Luiz, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Lampard, Ramires, Kalou, Mata and Torres.

No. We have to play drogba even if he gets cancer! You know similar team as stoke, with mata, Luiz and Torres. Where Torres goes in for Kalou.. Perfect squad!
ReplyDeletei go for a 4-2-3-1 formation with the following players: cech;ivanovic,cahill,terry,cole;essien,luiz;ramires,mata,sturidge;drogba. We need luiz in the middle cos he has both the pace and long ball passing ability needed of a holding midfielder and as well act as a spoiler to opposition attack. Ramires on the right of attack so he can help mark down lavezzi when the need be cos he is their most dangerous player 4 now.i prefer drogba to el nino cos he seems to have more luck on his side with the goals even when he isnt playing anything unlike torres who his scoring luck seems to have travelled for now and believe me chelsea need all the luck they can get in this one.sturidge over kalou cos kalou realy sucks IMO. Then mata in the middle(ofcourse we all know what he is capable of) behind drogba. Please no mikel at all cos he isnt a big game player. Lamps should be bring in the later stages for mata cos of defending strength cos we must have to defend in the latter stages of the game as we will be winning deservedly by then.if we dont conceive,i dont see why we cant score more than two goals at the bridge. Up blues!
ReplyDeleteWe cant do without Drogba, he must play if actually we want a win in dat game. Torres cant be used as a start for such a tough game. Mata n Drogba can make a good pair.

It might sound stupid with luiz but we hv to score 2 goals n keep clean sheet as well n luiz is a defender n he can score goals too
If he does go forward like he normally do we should hv a proper cover for counter

4-2-3-1 formation. Play high tempo in d opening 1hr. Introduce Essien for Mata if we 're 2goals up(to choke the midfield). Introduce Drogba for Torres if we need to score again or defend set pieces. Introduce Sturridge for Mikel if we yet need to score!mind you, Meireles is suspended. Perfect game plan.

ReplyDeleteHow could any1 select kalou. He's played the last two games and what has he done or created? **** all. He's only gd at coming on as a late sub when defenders are tired. I read so much about ppl moaning about Sturridge. Again I don't understand this. Behind mata he has been our most dangerous player this season. Yh a lot of the time he is selfish but that's due to him being a centre forward who is playing out of position and wants to show what he can do. Aren't all top centre forwards greedy??? If any team could buy any of our players it would be mata and Sturridge. Does that not tell u anything.
