Let's be honest, apart from the four signings we have made this summer in Piazon, Romeu, Courtious and Lukaku, we have all been pretty much sitting here waiting for some big names to come and join our squad.
We have seen the likes of City, United and Liverpool splashing silly money on rebuilding and strengthening their squad and have yet to see Chelsea do the same.
Well, it seems that in the next couple of weeks, that is about to change!. AVB spoke last week of being "two midfielders short" in our squad and it's seems that the target's have been identified.
If reports are to be believed this morning, Roman Abramovich is about to send shock waves through football once again with the purchase of 3-4 players for around the £100m mark.
According to the Daily Telegraph here in the UK, they believe that Chelsea will make an improved bid for Juan Mata of around £27m after an earlier bid had been rejected. It's believed that the new bid should be enough to force the Spanish club to sell. I posted about Mata on here, including a video of the player so make sure you check it out.
Next up is Luka Modric. The same newspaper also believes that Chelsea will offer Tottenham a final improved bid of £30m to land the Croatian. There has been all sorts of speculation about this move with Drogba being linked as part of the deal, then Benayoun and Kalou so I will be honest and say that I would be surprised if the deal goes ahead it would just be for £30m cash. We still could see someone used as a part of the deal, who that is will be any ones guess.
After that, there are two possible signings from AVB's old club Porto. Alvaro Pereira the Uruguayan can play as a full-back or wing-back and it's believed that Chelsea are looking at a deal worth around 20m Euros for him and another 25-30m Euros for his midfield team-mate Joao Moutinho.
The key thing with these two players is that Porto look to have already signed their replacements and the article states that Chelsea "were in talks" with Porto last night. AVB knows them well so maybe this has more substance to it than we are led to believe..
Also, being touted in the press for the past couple of days is a possible move for Liverpool's ex-Porto midfielder Raul Meireles. It's seems that a deal of around £13m was being sounded out to be enough for Liverpool to sell as they look to recoup some of their massive outlay this season, but this morning it's being reported everywhere that they would like Danny Sturridge as part of the deal.
Now, I know alot of you Chelsea fans like me, are of the opinion that this is all paper talk and we have to see it to believe it as far as any official deals are done. We all know that Chelsea are linked with all sorts of players week in, week out purely and simply because of Roman's money.
I have posted before, and I really believe it's a massive step forward for the manager and that's the fact that he IS involved with transfers now with Abramovich so I would suggest that something WILL definitely happen before the window closes.
Could we be about to see Roman Abramovich shock the football world once more after making a huge statement of intent back in January?. Could we be about to see another HUGE £100m raid on some of Europe's top talent as AVB looks to bolster his squad for the coming season?
