Speaking ahead of the new season and with the transfer deadline approaching, AVB has revealed that Chelsea are two midfielders short of where he wants the squad to be. Now whether or not that's two central midfielders or one winger is yet to be seen but after hearing his comments, expect Chelsea to make their move before September 1st.
Of course, the media attention is about Luka Modric, but AVB was quick to point out that the club is looking at other players too and made a very interesting comment about a certain Frenchman looking to leave the Emirates!.
He said:
"I think we might add in those positions - we might, The sense of urgency in midfield is there.(Source)
We play 4-3-3, we have a squad of 25. For you to prepare for a game, you need at least six midfielders. We only have four. But we have the versatility of Malouda, for example, and Yossi, who we have been using in the 10 and the eight position to a very, very good extent and a very good level.
I just explained to you the sense of urgency in midfield. But it doesn't mean that it's Luka. Not that I'm interested, but you have Nasri terminating contract. He's one of the most exciting players in the Premier League and that's the reality, as well as Luka, as well as other players."
Now Samir Nasri is a whole different story!. I have said from day one about Luka Modric, that it's one thing to be the "maestro" for Spurs in their midfield but to come and do it at Chelsea is a whole different story and is he really the player we believe can come to Chelsea and unlock the door?
Samir Nasri is that person. If there is any chance that Chelsea can get in there and get him then we need to do everything we can.
Encouraging though, that AVB had revealed that Chelsea need two more in midfield. Nasri and Neymar would be fantastic. Who do you people think we can realistically bring to the Bridge and who would you want to see?
