What a difference 24 hours makes in football. Yesterday morning as today's game moved ever closer I guess you could say that we as Chelsea fans were wondering what Carlo Ancelotti would reveal about today's game and possible thought about what he intends to do with our backfour.
Then we had the great news that Alex is able to play and slot in next to Ivanovic in the middle. Now I feel confident that although it's a hard game at Birmingham, we will get the job done based on our solid foundation today.
Another great decision for me is moving Malouda into the middle next to Mikel and Ramires which is one I spoke of earlier in the week. Malouda is key in our midfield today. We all know how good he is on the ball and how creative he can be. That's when he normally plays as part of our front three. To sit him in behind, Drogba, Anelka and Kalou to unlock the door with a killer ball is a great move as this is what I believe we have been lacking with Essien and Lampard missing.
Birmingham are a threat against anyone, can beat anyone on their day and are especially difficult to beat at home. The big man Zigic is an obvious target up front and having Alex back should sure up our defence today and Zigic will not have it all his own way in the air.
To say Birmingham are a one trick pony is unfair as they like to play their football too. In Ferguson they have someone who likes to sit and protect the back four and knock the ball about. Whoever plays next to him whether it's Gardner or Bowyer, both will look to get forward and with Larsson and Fahey out wide they will look to get their crosses in early to Zigic or Jerome playing up there next to him.
For me if Chelsea can get on top in midfield then we have won half the battle. The likes of Fahey and Larsson will have a job on today to deal with Cole and Bosingwa pushing forward. The two in midfield of Birmingham against our three could find themselves outnumbered today and I firmly believe that Malouda will run the show today. If he is given time and space on the ball then he will hurt Birmingham.
Kalou coming back into our front line alongside Drogba and Anelka is another positive today. Whether you love him or get frustrated with him there is one thing Kalou does well and that's run at defenders. With Nico always comfortable on the ball and looking to always make his runs, Kalou running at their defence which is not the best by any stretch of the imagination and Didier Drogba on form today I am in no doubt that Chelsea will get three points today.
Last week, Chelsea looked all over the place and were out thought and out fought. Expect Chelsea, after having that performance in their minds for nearly a week now, to come out and how the rest of the league that it was simply one of those games.
Expect Chelsea to play with a high tempo, dominate possession and create plenty of chances with Malouda pulling the strings. Arsenal look like going top of the league shortly after beating Spurs, wouldn't it be great that it only lasts a few hours as Chelsea pick themselves up and win comfortably today playing like we all know they can.
Chelsea to win by three goals as I really really believe we have more quality in our side and will move back to the top of the Premier League.
Come on Chelsea!
