Is Roman Abramovich about to stun the football world once again as he did back in 2003/4. Has our owner said enough is enough to Manchester City and is about to make moves for BOTH Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres?. The difference betweeen Roman and City's owners is that he loves his football and is reportedly a massive fan of Rooney and Torres.
Obviously after the Fergie press conference yesterday the press and media have gone into overdrive about Wayne Rooney. I wrote an article yesterday stating why I believe Rooney won't be joining Chelsea and I believe Rooney is now being driven by money and money alone as at the end of the day why leave United.
Added to that there is the situation at Liverpool with Fernando Torres. I wrote another article the other day asking the question if Chelsea would make a move once more for the Spaniard after having a bid turned down in the summer. Torres doesn't look happy anymore at the club and it could be a chance for Chelsea to test Liverpool's resolve.
So we have Rooney who has confirmed he wants to leave and Torres who's body language shows he is looking to leave. Of course Manchester City will be monitoring both players if we are being linked with them as this is pretty much par for the course at the moment but reports this morning state that Rooney is keen on Chelsea.
Could Roman stun the football world once more and splash HUGE amounts of cash in January to try and sign one of them, or could it be both of them?
We have to be realistic here. Didier Drogba is the best all around centre forward in the Premier League. At 33 Drogba has maybe one or two years left in him. I wouldn't swap Drogba for anyone right now and with the way Nico Anelka is playing it would be hard on Anelka if one or both came to the club.
The important thing to remember is the ages of Torres and Rooney. They are only young and have their best years in front of them. Whatever you pay for them if the fee turns out to be massive, you would get a pretty much excellent return on them hopefully over time.
Rooney is english of course, which helps the ruling about home grown players which is another option to consider. Torres is able to play in the Champions League this season which could also be an important factor.
I have to say being honest and realistic if both players are driven by money and look at City as a side who will win things in years to come then I can see them moving to Eastlands. However, we are Chelsea and if its down to football reasons alone then Chelsea ARE a realistic option for one or both whether its in January or in the summer.
The question is has Roman spotted a chance to make a statement to the football world once again and is he about to go after one or both of them? With both players unhappy could Roman's option of Chelsea be too good to refuse as he looks to make his "dream" come true?.
