With Joe being rested last night by Fabio Capello for the first of two England friendlies before the World Cup this summer, and with just one game remaining for Joe to cement his place in the squad you have to ask, "Is Joe coming to a crossroads in his career as a footballer?".
Its no secret that Joe Cole hasn't played anywhere near enough football for Chelsea since his return from injury this season. Joe has only started a couple of games for Chelsea under Ancelotti including the win over United at Old Trafford as Joe popped up on the scoresheet with a sublime finish.
For the most part under Carlo Joe has had to settle for a substitute role as the team had been playing well, scoring goals and winning games.
When questioned about his future during the Chelsea parade he chose to not even discuss it, rather than to talk of how he is focused on getting on the plane to South Africa this summer, and that does worry me.
I have mentioned on here before about Joe Cole. Jermaine Defoe has spoken out about the possibility of him leaving, Sir Alex has been rumoured to want him along with Spurs.
So with this one game remaining to cement his place in the World Cup squad, and if he doesn't make it ( I really hope he does ) could that be the final push out the Stamford Bridge door this Summer? Joe loves Chelsea but loves his football and would be devastated if he doesn't make the final 23. If he doesn't make it you can be sure he will blame Carlo for not giving him enough time to impress Capello and that will see him leave.
I am hoping Joe gets a start at the weekend in Englands final game, because all of us Chelsea fans know that when he is on his game there is nobody better. He can produce a moment of magic and can be a massive part of England's challenge to win the tournament.
Let's hope for our sake Capello gives him the chance and Joe shines and makes it on that plane and into Carlo's plans for next season!.
