It was never going to be the same game as the 7-1 a few weeks ago. Chelsea ground out the result and put Villa to bed with three second half goals but you do have to say it could of been so different come half time.
Martin O'Neill was incensed about two key decisions in the game and quite rightly so. Chelsea fans may be shocked to hear it, but if the penalty incident or the Terry tackle happened to us we would be just as incensed as he was!.
It was tight with both sides looking to get a foothold in the game. Villa were at it from the start they certainly wanted to make up for their performance in the last game and you could tell they were hungry for the performance and the win.
The pitch didn't help the game at all and hampered both sides with players losing their footing in the first half. Chelsea's flowing fluid football wasn't evident because of it and it was a half of football that didn't really create a clear cut chance. Milner and Joe Cole had both had shot's wide of the goal which didn't trouble either keeper. Warnock was called into action as he blocked a Drogba shot from a Malouda pull back.
Everyone was however talking about the penalty incident and I have to say (along with Ancelotti and John Terry themselves) it was a stupid tackle and a definate penalty which was never given. O'Neill and Villa were incensed as they had been in the Carling Cup final as the Referee waived their protests away. I for one couldn't believe it wasn't given and relieved at the same time. Half time 0-0.

In the opening stages of the second half John Carew headed wide from a Downing corner but that was really all Villa had to show for themselves. Chelsea took control of the game on 67 mins. A Chelsea corner was headed clear by Richard Dunne straight to the feet of JT. His attempted shot was mis-hit but came straight to Drogba who first time, guided the ball to the opposite corner, Freidel was caught out going the other way and the ball found its way into the corner of the net. 1-0 Chelsea.

Once the first goal went in you could see Villa's heads drop and Chelsea gain confidence. Villa to their credit carried on pushing forward but kept booting long balls up to Carew and were handled easily by the impressive Alex with JT by his side. Which now brings me to the other moment in the game where O'Neill again was up and on the touchline berrating the Referee.
John Terry dived into a tackle on James Milner and it was a really bad one. He was high and caught Milner and if the Referee had seen the angle we all did after the game he would of been sent off. I had to say I do not think that JT went into the tackle to injure Milner at all. I think he went for the ball, realised he wasn't getting it and left his leg up to trip him up and not catch him as he did. Some people will disagree with me but thats just me opinion. Yes he should of been sent off. He wasn't and the game carried on.
For all Villa's determined efforts to try and create something from a knock down from a long ball it never materialised. Chelsea carried on passing the ball and getting the ball wide and we made it 2-0 late in the game as Michael Ballack on for the unperforming Deco got in behind the Villa back four down the right and crossed the ball for Malouda to slot the ball home high into the net at the back post. 2-0 Chelsea.

After the Malouda goal it was game over. Chelsea just needed to see the game out and added a third goal as Chelsea broke again once more. Malouda skipped past a challenge and took the ball to the edge of the box. His backlick found Anelka on for Drogba. He found Lampard edge of the box and he remained calm and composed under pressure to slot the ball into the corner.

It was a much closer game than the scoreline tells you but in the FA Cup its always about creating chances and then taking them and that was different between the two sides today. Villa fans you are unlucky with the two decisions than went against you today but on other day they will go for you. Just like the Man Utd game, yes Didier was offside but its down to the officials to give the decision.
So were are through to the FA Cup Final once more and have a chance to retain the trophy we won last season and who would of thought that it will be against Portsmouth we beat Spurs 2-0 after extra time yesterday!. The Portsmouth story is a fantastic one for all they have been through in recent months to get to the final is amazing. But, there is still an amazing story to be told if Chelsea can retain the FA Cup and you never know, it could be a double!
CAREFREE & KTBFFH EVERYONE!
