This isn't knee jerk reaction to last night before you think it is. This is something I said back in the summer and in recent weeks and last nights performance has only added fuel to the fire in what I believe Carlo Ancelotti lacks as a Manager of Chelsea.
Back when he was appointed the Manager I wrote this post and said that I didn't see how the club were taking a step forward and would he turn out to be another Scolari. Yes he has won the Champions League but before he came to Chelsea he won nothing for two seasons.
Just like Scolari we made a great start to the season culminating with arguably our best performance of the season at The Emirates as we beat Arsenal 3-0. In that report I spoke about our impressive firepower but that all changed when we lost at Man City. He said after that game that he wasn't worried about the defeat!. Below par performances followed against APOEL at home, Everton at home, Birmingham away, Hull away, Everton away, Inter away, Man City at home and Inter at home last night which for me was the most disappointing performance out of all of them.
I know Essien has been a big miss and Ashley Cole too but still, we should be beating these teams in the Premier League but we didn't deserve to at all in any way!. We have had chances to extend our lead at the top of the table and have blown it. We now find ourselves a point behind United, on the same points as Arsenal with a game at home against Villa and away games at Spurs, United and Liverpool to come.
The belief that was there at the beginning of the season has gone. The winning mentality seems to have disappeared. Most importantly of all I don't know what he is doing with his tactics at all. When he faces a problem in a game he lacks ideas on how to counter-act the problem to turn it our way and maintain control of the game once more. He has been found out twice now on the biggest stage and been left with no ideas.
Thats why I am writing this article. It worries me that he has run out of ideas with the side when it comes to the big games, the hard games away from home and now until the end of the season every game is now a big game.
What frustrates me even more is that the solution is there for all to see play with two wide men, natural wide men to open a game up and allow the likes of Lampard to get forward into the space. Drogba was exposed in the two games against Inter as we had no width at all. It was plain to see we lacked creativity last night and thats another worry for me.
The only way he can have any chance in this title run in is bin the idea that Anelka play wide of the front three. He can't. End of. Simple as that.
We need to make a decision now. Drogba or Anelka up front through the middle? Malouda wide left and Joe Cole wide right and those two can win you games. If you play Joe week-in-week out till the end of the season he will prove what he can do.
The problem is, I just can't see Ancelotti adopting his style of play and if thats the case we can kiss goodbye to the title now.
Jose made a statement ahead of the Chelsea game and I bet it was ringing in the ears of Roman Abramovich last night. Jose said:
"Since I have left Chelsea I keep winning, Chelsea won something, the FA Cup!"
He is right to a tee. If we carry on the way we are its all we have a chance to win again this season!.
ANCELOTTI WAKE UP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!

Excellent article that hits the nail on the head. Relying on a piece of Drogba magic or a Lamps (often deflected) longshot, is no way to go about winning titles. Some spending in the summer to freshen up and ageing and reputation-full dressing room.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as a 21 year old Chelsea fan who has never seen his side finish out of the top 12 in the Premier League (to my footballing memory), I appreciate that my view is that of a spoilt Chelsea fan, and I should perhaps be greatful to be supporting CFC in such a successful era. Unlike my dad, uncle and cousin who have 'suffered' a more low-key (but perhaps more rewarding??) following of CFC.

Up the Chels!!
pinions are fine but you lost all credibility when you suggested playing Joe Cole in every remaining game. The guy has played one good game since the 2006 season. That's 4 years. Much of the reason for that is his injuries, but Robben was run out of the club for having fewer injuries. The guy's just a dead loss and preventing us from getting a proper player.
ReplyDelete@2nd Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteHow can I lose all credibility about Joe Cole?. Who else would you play instead of him and in what formation?. Don't tell me you think Anelka can still do a job there!..
