I am getting to the point now where I am wondering if I am the only person that can see it, if I am being stupid or if I am just thinking complete rubbish. As I sit here this morning looking at the Premier League table we are now 4 points behind United with a game in hand and out of the top two since the 2nd weekend of the season.
How many more times have I said it, WE NEED WIDTH!. First half we had width and created a goal from it and caused them all kinds of problems. Anelka, Drogba and Kalou were all interchanging positions and it was causing Blackburn problems and we should of scored more than Drogba's goal in the first half. Anelka broke free down the right and look up at the right edge of their box, pulled the ball square to Drogba who in space in the box slide home with his left foot into the corner bottom corner. 1-0 Chelsea and we look comfortable.
Then a blow as Ivanovic clashes with a player on the byline trying to see the ball out and gets a kick behind the knee. He is down for a while receiving treatment and tries to play on, but can't continue. So he comes off for Zhirkov to play left back and Ferriera moves to right back, his natural position.
The second half was a different story. The width we had wasn't there. Blackburn to their credit came out second half and pushed onto our midfield and full backs and pressed the man on the ball and did cause us problems. Their pressure told when for some reason Michel Salgado was given time and space down our left hand side, once the ball was played back to him, to take a touch and set himself to cross the ball to the back post for Diouf to score a header down into the bottom corner. Ferreira no chance to win the header from a standing jump and Turnbull couldn't get there.
What annoyed me, was that Salgado was put under no pressure at all. He had time to compose himself, look up and cross the ball in. Ok it wasn't their throw-in to begin with, but surely we should never of allowed the cross to come over in the first place.
So again, for the second time in a week we are now looking to Ancelotti to make some changes either to the tactics or the players on the pitch. He makes a change after a while sitting on the bench with Wilkins shaking his head ON THE BLOODY BENCH and not up on the sideline barking orders out the players or shouting and encouraging them... Deco comes on for Kalou? We go to a NARROW 4-Diamond-2 formation. Why? Why Deco and not Joe Cole to strech our play wide and get the ball away from their two outstanding centre halves?.
So again another wrong decision that plays into Blackburns hands. They see the change and sit in, play compact to force Chelsea out wide. Zhirkov and Ferriera hardly get forward, the once or twice Zhirkov did it lead to a corner which Blackburn defended with Samba outstanding next to the young debutant Jones. Again Chelsea try and play through the middle once more as we are now stuck with the formation and it gets broken down or comes to nothing.
We are chasing a goal now and have immense pressure with the ball in Blackburn's half but still not creating a clear cut chance. We need to keep on attacking with every option we have available like Fergie or Wenger will do, but no, Ancelotti takes off Anelka with 4 mins injury time left for Danny Sturridge. Nothing against Sturridge, but Anelka at the moment is a better finisher and better on the ball than Sturridge so why take him off? Should of been Joe Cole for Ferreira or something... but no...Blackburn see out the game and it finishes 1-1.
Thats now 7 points out of 15 in the Premier League and we have blown it, let's face it. United and Arsenal are churning out results as we falter once more. You wouldn't of thought it a few weeks ago but Portsmouth away this Wednesday is now our Cup Final. If we do not get three points there I can't see us winning the League.
So my message to you Ancelotti is this: "There is a reason why the Chelsea fans started singing about Joe Cole! Thats because we want him playing out wide to offer us attacking options that we don't have. So please wake up now and get back to the 4-3-3 formation and get the ball wide!".
Chelsea (4-3-2-1): Turnbull, Ivanovic (Zhrikov 45), Alex, Terry (c), Ferreira; Lampard, Mikel, Malouda; Anelka (Sturridge 90), Kalou (Deco 73); Drogba.
Scorer Drogba 5
Booked Zhirkov 87
Blackburn (4-4-1-1) : Brown; Salgado, Samba (c), Jones, Olsson; Pedersen, Andrews, N'Zonzi (Hoilett 90+2), Diouf; Dunn (Emerton 55),Kalinić (Roberts 62).
Scorer Diouf 69

i disagree about your opinion about Deco..I think Deco is the best solution when we being pushed all over in midfield BUT Ancelotti putting him in too late..In second half, we look weak in midfield which is the core for every team..
ReplyDeleteKalou should be out earlier when we still leading, and Deco, Mikel and Lampard can conquer the midfield again, stop Rovers from getting possesion and if possible find another goal..
About Joe Cole, yes i believe he should play, Malouda on the left and Joe on the right should be the best attacking option to support Drogba..If in January it become success, why not try it now??
Change your 'of's to 'have's and it might read somewhat better...
ReplyDeleteover the last few weeks, the main culprits leads to chelsea fallen is lampard and drogba. looks the way lampads position at all times, he may be the saviour at times but the lack of controll and ball pass that lead to others to control the game.
ReplyDeletedrogba? cant even pass, controll or dribble....goals that he scores only by luck....
ancelotti, wake up and start producing the solid midfeild likes M.U.
