At 1800 this evening my best mate who is a Arsenal fan text me with the message "it was men against boys" and let's face it, he's not wrong. Chelsea stamped their authority on Arsenal and the Premier League with an impressive and dogged display against Arsenal at the Emirates as we came out 3-0 winners with two goals from Didier Drogba and an own goal from Vermaelen.
Chelsea made four changes to the side that took the field in Porto the other night. Cole came in a left back, Joe Cole and Lampard came in for Malouda and Deco and Essien kept his place in front of Ballack.
Arsenal started much much brighter then Chelsea. They had a lot more possession than Chelsea but just simply could not break down the Chelsea wall at the back. Today, Cech, the back four and our hard working midfield were the difference in this hard fought London derby.
Arsenal got as far as the final third but had the door firmly shut every single time, and when they did get through, Cech came out and gathered the ball, or one of our defenders got back and made an important tackle. We were so strong as a unit and when we attacked we look dangerous.
At the back, Terry and Carvalho were assured as ever. Ivanovic had a great game and was very solid and despite all the stick Ashley Cole did really well and came up with two superb crosses which hit home at the Emirates as Chelsea went in at the break 2-0.
Drogba looked at the start as if he was going to have a long afternoon as he spent most of his time moaning to the ref but when he got his act together he really made the difference up front today. John Terry in a rare moment forward, slid a perfect ball inbetween two defenders. Ash took a touch steadied himself wide left just outside the box and played a perfect cross into Drogba who, with the faintest of touches guided the ball into the top corner 1-0 Chelsea. Three mins later Cole was at it again. Another superb cross had Gallas (remember him!..... no I didnt think so!) and Vermaelen all ends up and the ball came of Vermaelen and found its way into the far corner 2-0 Chelsea.
Second half Arsene Wenger threw on Theo Walcott, Rosicky and Vela but all were ineffective as the Chelsea machine soaked up their possession and final ball and looked comfortable all day. The one slight blip was when Cech went up with Eduardo and even though his foot was high, the ball came free and Arshavin scored, but it was disallowed due to Eduardo's challenge on Cech. Wenger was unhappy and claimed the high foot was Chelsea's but, to be fair that was all he had to cling onto today.
After we had soaked up the pressure, we were awarded a free-kick outside the box and Drogba stepped up like the Hull game on the opening day of the season and scored into the bottom corner. 3-0 Chelsea and game over.
Today was impressive. We showed how good we are defensively. We should how we work for each other all over the pitch and with Anelka and Drogba on form and outstanding week after week we are THE force to be reckoned with this season!

As an Arsenal fan i can have no complaints, neither can wenger, we are simply not good enough to win the league, the cup, and we can forget about the european cup. Chelsea to their credit have that never say die attitude, if they'd have gone in at the break 2 down, they'd have probably clawed their way back, and thats the difference, not the men against boys tag, that doesnt count 'if yer good enough your good enough' thats my attitude, so come on wenger spend a few francs and lets see what we can do, but again congrats to chelsea on a fine professional performance, just hope you do it against the scum when you play them.
ReplyDeleteOne day we'll play the Chavs with a full-strength side - don't think that's happened for 5 seasons - and then we'll see. See you in the Champs Lge Final for Judgement Day.
