Well it didn't take very long did it for an ex-player to come out and have "their" say about the situation we are faced with at the moment with FIFA. But it was surprising for me that it was Robbie. Of course you would come to expect someone to come out and have a "pop" at us but thought it would be one of the players that left he club on bad terms or something, but I was always sure that Robbie wanted to move on with no hard feelings.
Robben has said over the last few days that he "fears a mass exodus" now from Chelsea by players who do not have a long term connection with the club and straight away you initially think "thats bollocks" but is it really?.
Ok so at the moment we are faced with a possible two window ban which will take us to Christmas next season but let's hope that after the official appeal we will be making to the Court of Arbitration we could be looking at just this window coming up at the end of the year.
I have said before on here time and time again that I believe we have the strongest squad and the most quality of the depth of our squad that do we really need to bring anyone else in at all?. I don't think that January will be a major threat to us if we are not allowed to do business in the window at all. The African Nations players will go away for a month (Drogba, Kalou, Mikel & Essien) but look at the games we have during that time. We have Hull (A), Sunderland (H), Birmingham (H) and Burnley (A) which to me should be a problem at all. We have quality in our squad and with the likes of Joe Cole and Zhirkov to step into midfield I do not see this being a problem at all.
The question remains about if we are to be banned next summer. There is no doubt and a geneal consensus that we have a ageing squad so it will need to be replaced. As with any summer some players will move and with us possibly not being allowed to register new players this would be an ideal opportunity to blood the youngsters and intergrate more of them into the First Team squad.
So in answer to Robben statement I don't agree with this at all. We are tight bunch these days. We have the strongest squad in the Premier League (with others still to return from injury) and the strongest squad depth so one or two may leave next summer, but for now the ban will not affect us as much as the press and former players are making out it will!.
