It's now obvious that there is going to be numerous big name transfer deals being struck this summer with the likes of Madrid looking to offload their deadwood and United looking to spend the money from the Real deal but will we see Chelsea flex their financial muscles once again? The problem Chelsea will face now is the fact that clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Bayern and Milan have seen the amount of money paid out in recent days and will think that if these are the figured being paid now then their players still under contract will be worth x amount and this is where it can get silly.
The figures being banded about are outrageous for players who do not even have Premiership Experience and you have to ask the question is it really worth the risk?. Look at the Shevchenko deal. Chelsea paid £30 Million to bring him to the Bridge and you have to say in all honesty he just didn't cut it. So you have to ask whether or not the likes of Pato, Ribery, Aguero or Pirlo are really worth taking on that gamble.
On the flip side I am thinking do we really need to spend big this Summer bearing in mind our finish to the season. Under the right guidance Guus Hiddink showed the football world what our team is capable of. We put such a run of games together with the current squad we have that people have sat up and took notice so I am not 100% certain that we need alot of changes. There will be the standard couple of players who leave each summer but its who we bring in, especially now as we have a new manager with new ideas that will be key.
The main thing is that the Manager will feel that he needs to strengthen, need to improve the squad in certain positions and build what we have already got but we need to be careful that we are not forced into signing someone for huge sums of money who will struggle to make an impact in the first team and the Premier League.
