One thing we all know about Jose Mourinho is the level of detail he puts into his match preparation. Tonight, after defeat to Leicester, he has publicly slammed his players and rightly so.
Think back to Frank Lampard and the numerous interviews he has given about his time working with Jose Mourinho. He ALWAYS on record has stated that his preparation is outstanding and the players head into games knowing what to do in certain situations and how to approach the game.
So to tonight and the two Leicester goals which are a shambles to be honest and as much about our defensive errors as the excellent finishes from Mahrez and Vardy.
When asked of the goals, Jose Mourinho said:
"I feel my work was betrayed. We conceded two goals that are unacceptable for me.
I know that one of my best qualities is to read the game for my players, to read the opponent, to identify the threat of the opponent.
Vardy went in between two central defenders, Mahrez one-on-one in the box but I want two, I want a midfielder to close his best foot. Our two goals are very difficult to accept.
I worked four days in this match. I prepared everything related to the opponents. I identify four movements where they score almost every goal.
My players, they got all that information in training in the last three days. You can ask them. I know they are honest guys, they will tell you what I am saying is true. In four-type situations, we concede the first and the second goal."
It's been the story of our season really. If the manager has prepared his players and drilled into them the dangers of Vardy and Mahrez and they still concede the two goals they have then I agree with the manager 100%. It's simple mistakes that is costing us week in, week out and BOTH goals could have been avoided.
Why is Mahrez given enough time to bring the ball under control, move it onto his left foot and STILL have time to put a dangerous cross into the box? Why are we not closing him down as quickly as possible??
Then, why doesn't Courtois, JT or Kurt Zouma take ownership of the situation? They all can see the flight of the ball, they can read where it is coming into but ALL THREE of them remain static and Vardy strolls into the space and flicks the ball home!
Now what you didn't see was the build up to the goal. Leicester play a long ball over the top and Courtois comes out of his box and heads the ball away as Vardy chases the ball down. Cesar Azpi and JT are both with Vardy and if anything, Courtois could have stood on the edge of his box and waited to collect the ball in his hands inside the box to deny Vardy and we wouldn't have put ourselves in this position.
Anyway, to what you have actually seen of the goal. Why is Albrighton given time to play a high ball into the box? Why hasn't Courtois come off of his line and stepped out and grabbed the ball out of the sky to deny Mahrez? Why has Azpi stood off of Mahrez in the box to allow him to complete a step over, flick the ball to his left (again onto his best foot) and then curl a shot into the top corner giving Courtois no chance!?
If the manager has given you this information in his preparation. Has stated about Vardy's movement off the ball and Mahrez on his left foot being the danger, then I agree with the manager 100% that his preparation and work this week has been betrayed.
If anything we have ALL been betrayed!
