Pre season has been disappointing to say the least. The performance at Brighton at the weekend was a disaster and although it's far to early to be judging people, it was still an eye opener.

With Juan Mata and Oriol Romeu back in training today, things will really take shape this week as RDM prepares the side to take on Manchester City at Villa Park in the season's curtain raiser.

So, with all this in mind, and with the fact that we want to see a much better performance, I am wondering how you the Chelsea fan reading this thinks that RDM should approach the game.

What formation should he go with and who should start the game?

This will be a game where you will not see a whole host of changes and should give us all a clear indication of his thoughts towards Wigan in the opening day of the season a week on Sunday.

For me, it has to be 4-2-3-1 formation and the team should be as follows:

Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole, Mikel, Lampard, Hazard, Mata, Ramires, Torres.

What do you people think?

KTBFFH!

  3. Co-sign 4-2-3-1

    Iva-Luiz-Terry-Cole
    Mikel-Lampard
    Ramires-mata-Hazard
    Nando

Side note-why is everyone banging on about our desperate need for a RB when we have ivanovic? Surely he's good enough to be pissy if left on the sidelines when terry/luiz/Cahill take the CB berths. This gives an opportunity for the youngsters to step up to back up RB

Any thoughts.. Am I way off

  5. Why include John Terry when he is facing a massive ban? Isn't better to already get Cahill & Luiz playing together? Coz remember terry is banned in Europe again coz of the red card in Barca for three games. That's means he will miss the super cup as well. As for the team
    Cech-Iva-Cahill-Luiz-Cole-Mikel-Ramirez-Sturridge-Mata-Hazard-Torres subs: Marin-Lukaku-Lampard-Essien-Turnbull-Romeu

  6. I wouldn't play Mata at all. I'm not saying he hasn't got the talent but he has been almost non stop for a year (Euros and Olympics) and he needs some rest to avoid being injured long term this coming season. Also I wouldn't play Terry as he might be banned by the FA for Wigan away which is our first serious game. Bearing that in mind I would go for 4-2-3-1 Cech Ivanovic Cahill Luiz Cole Mikel Lampard Ramires Hazard Marin Torres.

    1. But lampard and mikel are too slow and are not building the play out quick enough affecting the pace of the game meaning we dropping too deep and not counter attacking quick enough. What do you think? I think that's our weakest point in the team.

    2. I agree with that. In the long term I think Oscar and Romeu could be the partnership that would help solve that issue. Also McEachran has played there for Chelsea and looked promising. However they're all lacking the big game experience of Lampard and Mikel so that is why I went for them. Lampard should definitely play less this season. Similar to what Scholes does at United. Big games only.

  10. For me personally I will like di matteo to switch the players positions during the second half of the match. first half formation:
    Cech
    Ivanovic luiz terry a.cole
    Mikel lampard
    Ramirez. hazard mata
    Torres
    And in the second half:
    Cech
    Ivanovic cahill. terry. a.cole
    Mikel Ramirez
    Hazard. Mata. Marin
    Torres
I think di matteo should bring ramirez back to the middle cos that's where he is more effective and play tirelessly.this second half formation we help balance the wings of the team.
    Substitute: benayoun/hazard, meireles/mata, essien/mikel, piazon/torres,romeu,turnbull and whoever is available

Hazard will be allowed to place as a second striker combining well with mata.....dis would be lethal for opposition defence

  20. Comm shield is a freindly game. Each team can use 11subs. My team: Cech, Cole Ivanovic Terry Luiz, Mikel Lampard, Marin Hazard Ramires, Torres. 4-2-3-1 formation. Subs: every other player available. Prediction: chelsea 2 man city 2. City win 4 - 3 on penalties. Blues 4ever!

  21. Lol! I pity those who say El Nino will be a flop. Just look at all those players behind him in attack! Most notably Oscar and Mata..Torres will for sure be top scorer this coming season. Back to the City game..Cech. RB: Ivanovic. RCB: Cahill. LCB: Terry. LB: Cole. RDM: Essien. LDM: Lampard. RAM/RW: Ramires. CAM: Mata. LAM/LW: Hazard. ST: Torres. Subs: Turnbull,Luiz,Mikel,Meireles,Marin,Piazon and Lukaku.

  22. I would play a 4:3:3
    CECH
    IVA CAHILL. LUIZ. COLE.
    RAMIREZ. MIKEL. LAMPARD.
    HAZARD. TORRES. MARIN.

Sub: Sturridge. Raul. Essien. Bethrad. Halario. Lukaku.

Hopefully this will provide the width which was so lacking on the team lately. Contain their midfield and then counter attack quickly and decisively not sure about Torres use Sturridge at some point as well coz Torres doesn't cut it at the moment.

    1. The 4-3-3 game needs plenty of pace from midfield ball distribution. We currently don't have that,a deep laying playmaker. Our attacking evolves around the 3 in the 4-2-(3)-1 formation although Lampard makes his trademark late runs towards the box.

  23. I would want d formation 2 be 4.2.3.1, and that shud be ivanovic, john terry, luiz and cole. Mikel and lampard. Mata, hazard and ramires. Torres. My God will always do it 4 chelsea amen.
