Modest Torres!

Fernando Torres always gives you the opinion that he is a very grounded and down to earth person in addition to being an outstanding footballer. With the tough time he had at the club over the past year or so, you would have understood if he celebrated his hat trick more than he did yesterday but as usual Torres took it all in his stride and surprised us all with what he said afterwards.

He said:

“The important thing for me is being in the best form of the season with more important games to come.

This season has been strange, not getting results, changing the manager in the middle of the season.

Nobody was backing us but now we are probably an option to finish in the top four. If you asked someone in the first half of the season no one would have gone for Chelsea — now everyone is delighted with what we are doing.

We have two finals and a massive game against Newcastle on Wednesday. That is the main one right now. We need to win.

We will be closer to reaching the top four and, of course, if we win this game, we will approach the FA Cup Final with more motivation. So it can be a great week.

The last hat-trick was a long time ago so I’m happy. Things are getting better. When you work hard, you get the rewards.

In the past I was feeling very good but I couldn’t score. To be honest, I’m not playing as well as before but I’m scoring goals.

From my first day in English football, everything was really good and looking easy — but it wasn’t like that. I was scoring almost every day and things were very good.

I have had one very difficult year here, going through a very difficult period of time, where things were not right.

Working hard is the only thing you can do — the rewards have come and it’s time to enjoy now.

I think we understood that we needed to play as a team. We wanted to get away from the difficult situation we went through.”

I have to say and I think quite a few of you will agree, Fernando Torres had an outstanding game yesterday and I thought he played really well so it's a surprise to hear him say he isn't playing as well.

His goal at the Nou Camp was outstanding with a great first touch to bring the ball down and finish but apart from the goal he has been criticised for his performance up to that point.

You do however have to give Torres credit for the way he has conducted himself ever since he has been here. He has continued to work hard, to be a part of the Chelsea team and even when things haven't been going his way, he still keep plugging away.

After finally getting the service that I have been crying out for since he joined the club, Torres has found the net in recent weeks and fair play to him.

With 11 goals in all competitions this season and four goals in two games, Torres has come into some form at the right time with five massive games to go.

Let's hope his goalscoring exploits continue.
