Back off this Chelsea striker and give him what he needs!

Comments

As usual after a defeat and lack of Chelsea goals, you can imagine reports, headlines and comments that people are making about Fernando Torres and it's doing my head in, it really is. Even Chelsea fans are having a pop and stating that he is "dried up" and not the player he used to be.

You see, he hasn't been the player he used to be because he is constantly having to drop deeper and deeper to get the ball because he isn't getting the service he needs. When he has had the service he has been looking like getting back to his best.

I am bored of having to keep on saying it, but Fernando Torres is best position is playing right up on the shoulder of the last defender. We don't want to see him having to drop deeper to get a sniff of a pass or have the ball played into him for once. Look at last night, Torres was played right into Liverpool's hands last night and their supporters enjoyed it big time.

He wasn't getting the ball played up to him, so he dropped deeper and every time he then got the ball he had one or two Liverpool players around him and he couldn't do much with it or lost the ball. That's something that Drogba is good at and not Fernando Torres.

How many more times do I have to say it, the bloke will make runs off the ball all day long as long and as long as you keep looking for his run, he will keep doing it. I am sick of seeing Torres ignored and looking frustrated on the pitch.

I cannot believe I am having to post the same thing happening that pissed me off last season and things do not seem to have changed.

If Chelsea are to get out of the slump we are in, get back to winning ways and hopefully get on a run of games to push us back up the league, then Fernando Torres has a massive part to play this season AS LONG AS WE GIVE HIM THE SERVICE!

I just wish people would see happening what I can see and give the bloke a break!.

Well excuse me AVB - I have a right to be anxious!

Comments

Source: ESPN Soccernet

I have to say that I am finding it increasingly difficult being a Chelsea fan at the moment. I have been and will be a Chelsea fan all my life and will support them through thick and thin. I have seen good times in recent seasons and plenty of bad times at this club. I stood on the old shed end and supported Chelsea week in, week out when we were in the old second division so I know just how bad it can be.

You see for the genuine fans that like me have been watching the club grow into what it has over recent times from when I first started going to games 30 or so years ago, we have seen just how good we CAN be especially at home and the fact that in the last two seasons it has all fallen apart is what has become the most frustrating thing about all this.

We thought last season was bad enough when Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea side couldn't buy a win let alone lose six games before the end of November!. For me personally I cannot stand the fact that we have lost to the big teams in every single game this season. United, Arsenal, Liverpool in the League and last night!

So it surprises me that AVB is complaining about the fans being anxious it really does. He after the game last night:
"Away from home, we've been more solid, statistically and as a team, That is a fact. At the moment at home, we've just not been good enough. I think we need to get our fans behind us when we play at home.

We need to get the emotions right. I know, and you can feel, that Stamford Bridge has become anxious about Chelsea playing at home but we need their full support behind us. That's the only way you can build the atmosphere to take us through this period.
(Source)
In response to his call for help from the fans I would like to point out the following. We as fans will ALWAYS be there supporting and backing our players. We have and always will do so. We will be around this place alot longer than managers and players and the fact that you call to question us being anxious is ridiculous, how else are we supposed to feel right now?

We have an Owner who demands success and has paid £13m for you to bring it to us. We have players who are champions, have seen it and done it and because of these reasons we had high hopes for the season.

What we are seeing on the pitch right now makes us anxious because to me anyway it looks like the players are caught between a rock and hard place. They are encouraged to express themselves, to enjoy their football and get forward and attack teams but at the same time, are being asked week in week out, even though we have problems in doing it, to play a high defensive line which does not work in the Premier League or in this country!.

It seems to me our players know it but are still asked to continue with it in the hope that someday it will click and suddenly work. The fact that Craig Bellamy has caught Chelsea's back four out twice in the space of 9 days highlights the facts!

We want things to work out and quickly but you have to change your approach to the high defensive line and you have to do it now. You also have to stop rotating players, pick the best eleven and stick with them.

It's obvious that players are leaving the club, Drogba is off as we know at the end of the season and it looks like Anelka is in January. We haven't seen anything of Kalou apart from being on the bench this season either so it looks like he is also on his way. Alex looks like his confidence is shot, has also talked of a move away in Janaury to Italy so why play these people!?

Stick with the same formation but with a deeper defensive line. Romeu has to play week in week out in front of the back four with Ramires and Meireles. These three will provide energy in midfield and creativity which we were lacking last night. Sturridge, Torres and Mata also must play week in, week out now also.

We can see we have so much potential at this club and are more than pleased with the investment we have made so far in signings we have made and we hope to build on this in January.

However, we will continue to be anxious and feel anxious if we continue to play as we have been. We are watching a side that appear to be a shadow of their former self and it's hard for us to not sit there and not feel frustrated.

We support you, we support the players and will always support this club but it's about time you faced facts. Dump the high defensive line and get back to basics. Tell our defenders to defend first and let the others create and build on attacks.

Us fans more than anyone want to see this Chelsea side be successful. We want to see you prove to everyone that YOU can be a success here but you HAVE TO realise that the approach you had to the game in Portugal (defending) doesn't work here.

So please, please, please listen to me AVB before it's too late!

Chelsea 0-2 Liverpool - Rubbish!! (Goals Video & Rant!!)

Comments

Well it's happened again and at Stamford Bridge. It was good to see Ryan Bertrand, Josh McEachran (who was later replaced injured at the end of the first half), Oriol Romeu get another start and Romelu Lukaku get a run out. Oriol Romeu and David Luiz were the stars of the show as far as Chelsea were concerned but that was about it.

We adopted a 4-Diamond-2 formation with Lukaku up next to Torres but with Liverpool playing 4-5-1 with Bellamy having licence to roam the pitch, we always struggled to break them down. So as a result, we got sucked into playing passes backwards and sideways yet again without any real penetration.

The only time we broke through their defence, Anelka on for Lukaku bottled it as Reina came out of his box and the chance went begging.

Torres had a couple of headers either wide or saved but that was about it even though he continued to work hard.

Lukaku had one header just wide in the first half but apart from that got found out and lost the ball more times than he held it up.

Chelsea again we disappointing. You could see time and time again Luiz or Romeu pick the ball up and look for someone to play a forward pass to but more often than not, Torres & Lukaku were marked and there was no real width.

Again it was the little bloke Bellamy that played a massive part in this one setting up both goals. Love him or hate him, he has pace to burn and is always a constant threat. Craig Bellamy was more of a threat to Chelsea tonight than the whole of our side was to Liverpool all night!

Sorry but it was rubbish from Chelsea tonight. Liverpool even had a penalty saved by Turnbull so it could have even been three!.

Saturday can't come quick enough as far as I am concerned!.

Here are the goals as we are caught out at the back again!

CHELSEA v LIVERPOOL: Come on Chelsea!!

Comments

So some people say the League Cup isn't important, it's the lesser of the four trophies we are in the hunt for this season and has the least priority. This is Chelsea v Liverpool at the Bridge and to be honest, it doesn't matter what competition we face each other, it's ALWAYS a big game.

Just a few weeks ago I was looking forward to Chelsea putting in a good performance and beating them but we all know what happened. I've said it before and will say it again, I cannot stand losing to this lot!.

So what of tonight's game? Will Liverpool ring the changes after playing on Sunday? and will Chelsea make plenty of changes to the starting eleven in addition to the enforced changes we have to make with John Terry suspended and Raul Meireles cup tied?

(Chelsea fans! Why not head to The Masala Zone (opposite Barclays Bank) before or after the game tonight and please mention you have seen this advert on my website "Chelseadaft" for me when you go in.)

One thing is for sure in my book, we have to put out a strong side tonight and we need to win this one. I do expect AVB to make maybe 4 or 5 changes including Ryan Bertrand and Josh McEachran coming into the side along with Alex for JT and Frank Lampard for Meireles. It's whether or not Romeu keeps his place and Ramires drops to the bench or McEachran plays the holding role?.

I really, really hope Fernando Torres is given a start tonight against his old side. He looks like a player who could do with a game under his belt again. We are hearing of involvement tonight for Lukaku but I think that maybe he will come off the bench later.

Whoever starts and plays the game, they have to be up for it, to play well and be confident tonight. This is the first trophy of the season up for grabs and after this one is the semi-finals. Just imagine what it could do to the squad if we won it!

For now we have to focus on Liverpool. Expect pretty much the same from them like the other week. I can see Carroll and Bellamy coming into their side and starting up front. We have to keep them quiet!.

So come on Chelsea, play well and win the game. I am not too bothered about a clean sheet tonight as long we get the win. This is Liverpool and this is a game I can't stand losing!!

Chelsea to win by two! What's your score predictions?

Chelsea striker demands meeting with AVB?

Comments

According to one of the tabloids in the UK this morning, Danny Sturridge has been into see AVB and has asked that he is played through the middle from now on.

Sturridge is the one striker we have who is on form, playing well and scoring goals and I guess he has every right to ask the question. The problem is whether or not AVB will entertain the idea.

If Sturridge comes off the right wing and is played through the middle then it means that more than likely Juan Mata moves to the right and Malouda left which is a backward step in my book.

Apparently a 'Chelsea insider" has said the following:
"Daniel has been to see AVB to say he wants to be the main striker. He thinks his form and goals mean he should be first choice.

He has also just broken into the England side and wants to give himself every chance of going to the Euro 2012 finals.

Daniel thinks the best way to do that is to play in his best position — centre-forward."
At the moment it is tempting to stick Sturridge through the middle and I am sure his time will come but right now we need him to stick where he is and to keep playing well. With news that Drogba is leaving and also Anelka, Sturridge will soon get a chance through the middle when the time is right and needs to be patient. However, I do understand his frustrations.

What would you do with Danny Sturridge these days? Keep playing where he is or put him through the middle?

TORRES: WOULD YOU PLAY HIM TONIGHT FROM THE START?

Comments

It's a simple question with a complicated answer. For me, Chelsea's best eleven has Fernando Torres starting in it, up front through the middle. So how is it a complicated answer for tonight?.

Well, think about it. AVB has favoured the approach of playing people who remain fresh in games up until the Wolves game last weekend. With Torres only playing about 20 minutes of football in the past three games we have had, it would be tempting to play him tonight.

Chelsea need to put out a strong side as it has been openly admitted by the club that this is a competition we feel we can win. Then again, Newcastle away on Saturday lunchtime is also a massive game so do we play Torres?

If it was me, I would play him tonight and give him an hour or so to get him back into the swing of things and then bring on Lukaku for 30 minutes. It would do both of them good.

However, I do have a feeling that Torres may not even be involved at all in preparation for the game on Saturday.

With news breaking this morning that it looks like Drogba's agent has conceded defeat with contract negotiations with Chelsea and now looking for a move for his man, surely Torres has to be the main starter in the side week in, week out?

So if you were AVB, would you play Fernando Torres tonight and why?

DROGBA'S LEAVING CHELSEA!?

Comments

After speculation about his future it seems that Didier Drogba will be leaving Chelsea after his contract expires at the club. There have been plenty of rumours of different clubs interested in his services as it appeared blatantly obvious that at 33, the club were never going to offer him the two year contract he wants.

Chelsea in recent time, have stood firm on player contract renewals if the players are of a certain age. Michael Ballack was one player who left the club after again only being offered a one year extension and wanting longer.

Today as featured here, Drogba's agent Thierno Seyd said:
"Didier has had the offer of a one-year extension from Chelsea. That does not suit us. We know what we want, where we want to go and what offers we have.

AC Milan came in for Didier on loan with an option to buy but I said 'No' straight away. Their offer did not interest us.

At Didier's age, he has nothing left to prove as a player. He will go where he is offered the most money. It could be the United States, Russia, Qatar or somewhere else in Asia.

Once you are well into your thirties you have to go to a club where you can be certain you'll be able to pay your bills.

LA Galaxy are a possibility among many others. He has been linked with Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia, as they pay well. But neither Didier nor I have had an offer from them."
Deep down I always thought this would be the case and maybe, the emergence of Danny Sturridge this season has forced Chelsea's hand into letting Drogba go. The club will be £120,000 per week better off.

Didier Drogba will go down in history as a Chelsea legend and an integral part of our history and Didier Drogba still has a part to play at this club for the remainder of the season as long as he is up for it, wants to play and give it his all. I cannot stand another performance like Marseille away last season.

Expect a barrage of rumour and speculation now that will continue to run until the window closes at the end of January. The question remains will and should Chelsea cash in and get as much as they can for him in January?

DiMatteo on the League Cup.

Comments

Speaking to the media today, Roberto Di Matteo explained the significance of the League Cup and just how important it can be before our quarter final clash with Liverpool tomorrow night. Back in the day, a certain Jose Mourinho, after winning the title in his first season, explained just how much of a part winning the league cup played in giving the side confidence.

DiMatteo explains how Chelsea have the same outlook this season. He said:
"(In 1998) it gave the team a real belief, a momentum. Then and now are two different situations, but it gave that team a good, positive effect to go on and win the Cup Winners' Cup and finish the season well.

This year we've looked at it as a trophy for us to win. It's a chance to win a cup. It can give a very positive momentum if you win a trophy in that part of the season. It's the first one we can win and we are still in all the competitions, so we have a chance to win them all.

In terms of the manager, winning a trophy is always very important.
(Source)
Spot on in my opinion. OK, it's the least popular out of the four we are going for this season but it's still a trophy at Wembley to be won.

What better way than to give everyone at the club the genuine belief that we can achieve something here under AVB than if we were to go out, beat Liverpool tomorrow and win the competition!

DIMATTEO: "I'm happy to be here, it's my club!"

Comments

Much of the focus of Bobby Di Matteo's appearance in front of the press before Liverpool tomorrow is about his future. There has been speculation of late that clubs had been interested in speaking to him with a view to becoming their manager (...and Leicester to mention one).

Di Matteo was keen to emphasise how happy he is here in the club he calls his home. He said:
"I'm very happy to be here. It's my club. I feel at home and Andre and I have developed a very good working relationship, so it's something we'll discuss maybe at the end of the season.

He's very well-prepared and mature for his young age, He knows he has a very wide knowledge of the Premier League and football in general. There is a lot of focus on his age, but he's a very ambitious and talented manager and he knows his stuff.
I'm glad that Di Matteo has committed himself to us till the end of the season. It must have been difficult being a successful manager with West Brom getting them promoted, to then be sacked a short time into his first season in the Premier League.

You would imagine there is a hunger and desire to get back into the hot seat somewhere and start again to put things right. I don't think any one of us would have held it against him if he rejected AVB's offer to become his Assistant at the club.

For now, and increasingly week after week, Di Matteo is becoming more involved on the Chelsea sidelines in conversations with the players and the manager during the game and it's good to see.

Let's hope he stays with us as long as possible before he decides to take the plunge once again. When he does, we all will wish him well.

CHELSEA v LIVERPOOL (League Cup) Who plays?

Comments

OK, so we won an important three points on Saturday against Wolves with a much better performance after the defeats at Leverkusen and against Liverpool a week ago.

Against Wolves we saw the introduction of Oriol Romeu who for me, has to start every game now ahead of the likes of Mikel and Meireles in the holding role, whether or not he will start tomorrow is another thing but alongside Ramires and Lampard, Chelsea had energy in midfield.

Again, Fernando Torres was left on the bench for Wolves coming on for the last 15 mins or so and it will be interesting to see if he plays tomorrow.

AVB has previously adopted a policy of rotating players to keep things fresh but this is the League Cup Quarter final and he has openly admitted one he wants to win so I just wonder who will start tomorrow night?

For me only three changes from the side that started against Wolves so my eleven for tomorrow is:

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Alex, Cole, Romeu, Lampard, Ramires, Sturridge, Mata, Torres.

I can see Lampard maybe coming in for Meireles, Alex for Terry and Torres for Drogba but I would prefer to keep it pretty much everyone else the same.

This is a game we have to win and to avenge the league defeat a week ago. Liverpool will be up for it as it's their only chance of silverware this season.

Who would pick to start for Chelsea tomorrow?

MATA: "We all have a lot of faith in ourselves as a team"

Comments

Juan Mata was the star of the show on Saturday against Wolves. Having a hand in our first and second goals and scoring our third, Mata was instrumental in a fantastic first half performance.

As you can imagine, after the game, Mata was asked about our previous run of results and the effects it had on the players. He responded by saying:
"It's never easy to have such negative results, but we all have a lot of faith in ourselves as a team. We have a lot of faith in our coach and in the quality of the squad.

We had a team meeting last week simply to reiterate that we are all together and that we are heading in the same direction and we showed that against Wolves.

The group has always been very united, and we have always been sure that the secret in enjoying more success as we go forward, in getting out of this moment, has been to stay strong and stay together.
(Source)
He's right you know, we need all the players to be together as one here now for the remainder of the season, especially if we are to go on a winning run and force our way back into the top four.

I posted in my match preview that we need to stick together with the team and our manager through this difficult period and run of games and it's just as important as the players.

As long as we are all pulling in the right direction, we WILL turn our season around and Juan Mata will have a big influence!

Thoughts on Gary Speed.

Comments

There are times in our lives that we hear about something happening that genuinely shock you. Yesterday morning as I was reading through my Twitter feed, I saw news break that Gary Speed had died. I remember actually saying the words "Oh my god!" at the time as it was something that literally stunned me.

My other half always says to me that football fans are fickle, One minute we love a player, then we hate them when they move away etc and she is right to a point. However, there are a few players out there who are respected by everyone for what they have achieved in the game, how they are respected throughout football, how they handle themselves off the pitch and for the person they always appear to be. Gary Speed was one of those people.

I have never met Gary Speed and he has never played for Chelsea but like I say, he is one of those players that everyone respects even if they have never played for your club. Gary Speed made over 530 appearances in the Premier League for I think five different clubs before moving into coaching and eventually becoming the Manager of his country. He had everything going for him it appears.

Yesterday morning however, we found out that he took his own life in what must have been the worst way possible. Think about it, to be in that frame of mind, to set up a noose knowing it will kill you and to go through with it, doesn't bear thinking about.

We may never know the reasons he chose to do what he did but it's important to remember his family at this difficult time.

R.I.P Gary Speed - you never played for us, but we respected you as a footballer and as a man.

A settled side and Romeu starts - sign of things to come?

Comments

Two things happened yesterday at the Bridge which hopefully will be a sign of things to come for the reason of the season.

I wrote earlier last week that in order to stop the rot and the supposed slump we were now in, AVB had to decide on the best eleven and stick with them and play them week in, week out. For pretty much the first time as Chelsea manager, he only made a couple of changes and it paid off.

Also and this could be the most important of all, Oriol Romeu was brought into the side in the holding role and had a fantastic game. Surely now Romeu MUST start ahead of anyone else in that position!.

Romeu was everywhere, winning tackles and spraying the ball about. He looked so comfortable in possession of the ball and gave us assurance and a base to build from. I really cannot underestimate his use of the ball and he gives us a much better option in the team than anyone else there.

So, I am hoping yesterday was a sign of things to come in the Premier League. Only one or two changes if any now for the next few weeks (apart from Torres in the place of Drogba) and Romeu starting.

What do you think?

CHELSEA 3-0 WOLVES: THAT'S MORE LIKE IT (FIRST HALF)

Comments

Well that was better wasn't it. The game was over at half time and it was much more like the Chelsea performance we should be seeing week in, week out. Whether or not other sides would be as generous as Wolves were is another thing, but for once Chelsea took full advantage.

AVB had said prior to the game that there would be no dramatic changes to the side from Leverkusen and he made just two changes. Ashley Cole came back into the side in the place of Bosingwa and Oriol Romeu came into midfield in the place of Frank Lampard. It's the inclusion of Romeu that makes headlines this morning for two reasons. First of all because Lampard was on the bench (AVB revealed Lamps is on four yellows and needed him for Liverpool this week) and second of all because of the performance of Romeu (more on that coming in a later post).

We all wanted a better performance, an important three points and if possible a clean sheet and to be honest apart from one or two moments in the game, we never looked like conceding.

Chelsea got their first goal as the impressive once again Ramires, stole the ball off Wolves and moved forward to the edge of the box and fired low towards the bottom corner. Only a great save from Hennessey in goal denied the Brazilian as he pushed the ball wide for a corner. John Terry headed home from the resulting corner to make it 1-0 Chelsea.

Chelsea we well on top and made it 2-0 with a great flowing move. Raul Meireles laid the ball off to Ashley Cole and made a run forward into the Wolves half. Cole played the ball forward into his run and Meireles took a touch to control the ball, then a second to flick it past the defender out to Juan Mata wide on the left wing. Mata then took on his man and beat him to the byline, looked up and drilled a cross into Danny Sturridge 6 yards out who beat the defender to knock the ball home. 2-0 Chelsea.

We wrapped up the game right on half time. A high ball was played over to Drogba wide left on halfway. His touch to bring the ball under control turned the defender and he was off towards goal. He moved forward to the edge of the box and his attempt on target was blocked. Drogba under no pressure, had time and space to fetch the ball wide left and he played the ball back to Cole. Cole again with time to bring the ball under control, looked up and spotted Juan Mata on the penalty spot unmarked and played a cross onto Mata's left foot. Mata first time, caught the ball great and volleyed the ball high into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance. 3-0 Chelsea.

It really was a better performance and nice to see Chelsea taking their chances. The second half was pretty much a non event and you have to hold your hands up and admit that Wolves came out and played much better. They still didn't create any real clear cut chances but we making much more of a game of it now.

Our second half performance wasn't as good as the first half and if anything, I would like to have seen Fernando Torres on a half time so we could continue taking the game to the opposition. Torres did come on for Drogba with just under 15 mins to go and Lampard with 20 mins to go but like I said the game was done and dusted by then.

Torres tried to get on the score sheet and created himself a half chance as he took on the defenders, got passed them to the right of centre of the pitch 20 yards out and tried to chip Hennessey but couldn't quite manage to get it high enough.

Danny Sturridge had another half chance as he took on his man and got to the byline 6 yards from the near post but, rather than flick the ball goalwards, he decided to cross the ball but there was no one there to flick it home.

Chelsea can be forgiven for taking it easy in the second half, but again alot of that is to do with how Wolves came out. They didn't want to concede any more goals.

If we want to be critical, we could say that Chelsea should have played with the same drive and intensity as the first half but they can be forgiven because we won an important game and with that a massive three points.

PREVIEW: CHELSEA v WOLVES - WE HAVE TO STICK TOGETHER.

Comments

At 3pm this afternoon all the talking stops and it's down to those players entrusted wearing our shirt by AVB this afternoon to get out on that pitch and to give everything to get three points.

We are taking a battering from all quarters right now and rightly so. The only thing that can start to turn things round now is a win. We need to take things game by game, and the possibility of three points at a time now.

It's no easy game today and Wolves will come here looking to attack us, expose our high defensive line and make Chelsea pay today. Mick McCarthy has done a great job there, has kept them in the League and has made them difficult to beat.

If as expected, Wolves come here to keep things tight and hit us on the break or from a set play and we find it difficult to break them down, We as Chelsea supporters need to stick together, not get on the players backs if things aren't going well and to keep encouraging the players.

We have the quality to get this right and it's important we really do get right behind AVB and the players.

I am not expecting alot of changes today. I can possibly only see one or two changes and I believe they will be Fernando Torres and Jose Bosingwa. One of those two will more than likely come into the side but which one is anyone's guess.

Ideally, we want three points and a clean sheet and is it too much to expect both today? In normal circumstances it wouldn't be and would be expected. So right now if we concede a goal but win the game that will do for me. Anything else is a bonus as the importance of three points far outweighs any defensive expectations. This is where we are now.

We simply cannot afford to lose or drop points today. With Newcastle and Man City next up, our season could be over. It's ridiculous to even contemplate right now but a reality we will be forced to face.

I believe (as always) like AVB that we CAN turn things round and I believe it will be today. The problem we have is no disrespect but the media will say "It's only Wolves" but right now it could be anyone, we just need that win.

So come on Chelsea, play well, believe in what AVB is trying to do and we will all stick with you.

Chelsea to win by two and get a massive three points.

“It is legitimate that people are not happy - from the fans to the media!"

Comments

In arguably one of the most difficult press conferences he has ever had to face being a manager, let alone Chelsea manager, AVB admitted that our run has been unacceptable and continues to believe that he can turn things round.

Here are the key parts of the press conference yesterday:
“We have spoken about results – and results in football are key to a manager’s sustainability. I have no problem with that. I didn’t come here to be a failure. I came here to be a success.

Chelsea is a club of high expectations and mine at the moment are negative. There is no running away from that. But that doesn’t mean that the present run will continue, or that we don’t have the talent to turn things around.

At the moment, it is legitimate that people are not happy - from the fans to the media. Everybody must do their job and we’re trying to do ours. Nobody wants to change that more than us.

I have spoken to the owner and he has said that (I will have time). My contract is a three-year contract. There was no mention of time. We didn’t even touch January. That is not on the agenda or the priority at this moment.

I don’t solve problems on my own. I solve them with my group of people and players and it’s been like that throughout.

I believe in the work we do, I don’t ask for time. I demand results of myself. It is not my style to pick a team just to win one game, and never will be.

When you suffer results like this, you have to look at collective mistakes and address them. That’s what we have been doing. Those mistakes, in focus, aggressiveness and concentration are the most difficult things to work on, because they are not coachable. Concentration depends on a player’s state of mind at that moment. There are too many factors, but we don’t want it to become a pattern of mistakes.

It doesn’t mean we will keep losing for three months. Why don’t you speak of the ability of these players to transcend a negative period. Or that after Chelsea get the win they need, they may go on a winning streak like last year? Why don’t you?

We must focus on work. That is the only thing to get us out of this.

But the philosophy will be the last thing to die in this club and the philosophy and the way we are set out is not in question, whatsoever.

We have meetings all the time but there is no dissent, not with me or with this club, There has been no criticism whatsoever of what we are doing. There is no running away from results. They are statistically the easiest thing to look at and to influence opinion making. We have to accept that.

But I know these players have passion for the club, all felt pride and emotion about coming to Chelsea, are all fully committed to the club.”

SIR ALEX FERGUSON: "I WOULD NEVER DISMISS CHELSEA!"

Comments

In a time of so much negativity surrounding our club and it's current fortunes at the moment, there is alot of doom and gloom around the place. Questions are being asked of the players and our manager and people are talking of a complete revamp at the club. It's easy to jump on the defeatest band wagon at the moment and suffocate ourselves.

There is still one person who, despite our poor run, has spoken of Chelsea in the positive this week and that's Sir Alex Ferguson. He said:
"I would never dismiss Chelsea because the progress they have made in the last decade is there for everybody to see.

They have won three titles, they have won the FA Cup a few times. They are bang in there in the European competitions. They have reached semi-finals and a final.

That experience will help them to come out of this bad spell.

I don't know what their rebuilding programme is like in terms of the young players, But if you take the case of Arsenal, they were written off.

Arsene Wenger was getting terrible criticism. Now everyone is saying they have a chance to win the league again. That is what football does.

There is inconsistency from everyone at some point in the season. Everyone drops points.
(Source)
As much as we love to hate him, when he speaks we listen as after all he has been there and done it so many times. If he believes in Chelsea then don't you think it's about time that we should?

FERNANDO TORRES - What's your view on the situation?

Comments

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Fernando Torres has only played eight minutes of first team football in the last two games. You could understand Didier Drogba starting the game against Liverpool if he was playing well, on form and scoring goals. This was his first game back!.

I guess AVB wanted to use the a different physical approach with using Drogba there to rough up the Liverpool defenders but it never happened. I personally was delighted to see Torres warming up with around 25-30 minutes left but as time went on, couldn't understand why he wasn't brought on.

This was one of our biggest games and we had already knew that City, United and Arsenal had all won before we played. I couldn't get my head round it to be honest.

So, next up was Leverkusen and another big game. A win or a draw would have suited us. A win would have wrapped up the group for us but again he was left out of the team and stuck on the bench.

It became obvious again even though he had scored, that Drogba wasn't as effective as we wanted him to be and at 1-1 I would have wanted AVB to make changes to take the game to opposition and try and get the win. This would mean bring Torres on but it still didn't happen and we lost the game!.

For the past couple of days, I have been sitting here trying to work out what the situation is with Torres these days. Is his lack of confidence playing a part in AVB's decision not to start him? If that's the case then surely that would apply to most of the players?. Is it that Torres and AVB have "fallen out"? or do you think AVB is getting pressured by "upstairs" to play Drogba?

I can't make any sense of it so I am asking you the Chelsea fan (or football fan) reading this to give your view on why you think he hasn't played and if you think he will start tomorrow?

AVB: "There shouldn't be any dramatic changes"

Comments

AVB has taken his pre match press conference this afternoon ahead of the Wolves game and has revealed that Ashley Cole is fit to play, has revealed there will not be dramatic changes to the squad and has spoken of team meetings ahead of the game. He said:
'There will be no radical changes in terms of the 19 players in the squad, There shouldn't be any dramatic changes.

Our recent form at home hasn't been spectacular. The last two games were games we played to win but we couldn't win and now we have to make sure to use the emotional advantage of being at home.

When you are hyped up emotionally and have more confidence then things go better for you. A negative streak of results can be explained by emotional states and it could be just that, and we need to find the right emotional stimulus.

The meetings had good focus and understanding about what we want to achieve. They were not critical, no animosity, no insults, no doubts about what we are doing. Self -confidence and self-belief now is what we need and everybody wants to get it. It only comes with wins.

Meetings won't be the decisive key. The key is to transfer what we do in training onto the pitch.

Our philosophy will be the last thing to die in this club. It is a thing that makes the technical staff and players very proud and what we have shown up to here, even in the moments of defeat, is something we have to stick with for the remainder of the season. We have to get the results right of course. Our belief is in our work and we have to continue it."
(Source)
It's good to know that the collective have had meetings to discuss things and to sort out problems we have had recently. It's about getting everyone together, singing from the same hymn sheet that counts and as long as we can have the players like that, we will sort it out.

I respect AVB for sticking to his guns with his footballing philosophy. Having studied the game for 17 years he is never going to change things after a couple of months here. Maybe alter it slightly to defend better.

I am worried about the fact he says that there shouldn't be any dramatic changes. I am hoping he is talking about the squad as a whole and not the actual team. Like I have stated earlier, I hope that there are some changes for tomorrow to our formation first of all and the players.

What are your thought's on AVB comments?

BALLACK: "We felt they didn't have the mental strength, confidence"

Comments

If there was one thing that stood out from the game on Wednesday night for me it was Michael Ballack. His performance in midfield was outstanding. Always on the move into space to receive the ball, spraying the ball about the pitch, getting up to join the attack and he nearly scored twice. It was a sign of a man full of confidence who is in stark contrast to his "old friends" here at Chelsea.

Ballack has taken the time to speak of Chelsea at the moment and has urged the experienced players to come out fighting and show everyone else at the club the way. He said:
"I knew before the game that Chelsea were going through a difficult moment. But it was only when we were on the pitch that I could understand what was really happening. We could sense in every minute of the match that they were not as strong as they usually are. Even when they were 1-0 up we felt they didn't have the mental strength they normally have. We might have been lucky to score our winning goal in the last minute but we always believed we had a chance of doing that.

I am really surprised at what is happening at Chelsea and, even though it was a big victory for us, I'm not as happy as I would normally be because it was against many of my friends.

I know how quickly it can go against them at Chelsea. It is always difficult for any coach there but Villas-Boas had success at his last team, he is an ambitious young boss and I know he is a good guy.

At the moment it is not easy for Chelsea but it's not just about the coach. It's also about the players. They are the ones who have to get out of this situation.

I can only say what I see and clearly their results are not the best. With every defeat they are losing confidence. In situations like this, you have to go back to your roots and return to square one. But it's harder for Chelsea to do that because of the ambitions they have and they are not matching them.

There are still enough big, experienced international players in that dressing room and now is the time for them to do it. You can't just look at the young players and criticise them. This recovery has to come from the older, experienced guys.

It is still in their own hands. If they beat Valencia at home they will go through and I think they are strong enough to do that. But clearly it is not the best moment for them."
(Source)
We really, really need to pick ourselves up starting tomorrow. Let's hope Ballack's words haven't fallen on deaf ears over at Cobham today!

CHELSEA v WOLVES: PICK YOUR CHELSEA TEAM.

Comments

It's been a long week hasn't it. Two defeats, negative press and immense pressure now being put on our manager and our players.

I have discussed everything with you the Chelsea fans that come and visit my blog each day from whether or not we will finish in the top four this season, AVB adopting a back to basics and defend first approach to games, the addition of TWO defenders in January, giving AVB time to take this club forward, Anelka being World Class but understated, David Luiz being backed by AVB, AVB must now pick his best eleven players and stick with them and the idea of playing Juan Mata through the middle!

Now we have to turn our attention to Wolves at Stamford Bridge tomorrow and in my view the game can't come quickly enough. We need a win to settle things down and gain some of our confidence back.

The most apparent feature of the week for me has been AVB's team selections. I couldn't understand Malouda starting and not Sturridge against Liverpool even though Malouda had a decent game. I can't for the life of me understand how Fernando Torres has played only eight minutes of football in big big games for Chelsea. It will be interesting to see how AVB approaches this one tomorrow.

So with all this in mind, with a need to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible and three points I am wondering who you guys want to see start the game tomorrow?

At the moment Ashley Cole is rated 60-40 so I wouldn't risk him. Some players have played well and some haven't. The important thing is that we get the win no matter what and try to keep a clean sheet.

So, this is the team I want to see playing tomorrow in a 4-2-3-1 formation to start with.

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Bertrand, Romeu, Ramires, Sturridge, Mata, Anelka, Torres.

Mata to play in behind Torres with Anelka left and Sturridge on the right. I want to see Romeu given a game in the Premier League next to Ramires as our two in the middle. Bertrand in for Cole as he is his back up after all and a Premier League game on a Saturday afternoon will do him good too, and Fernando Torres to be given a start again and hopefully to make a point to AVB that he simply cannot afford to be dropped.

What do you people think? Do you agree or do you want to see something different? Come and post your opinions on here, I would love to hear from you. Even if you normally only read things like this and never post, come and give your view, let's hear your voice for a change.

Don't forget I also have live odds from four different bookmakers available for you with the best of the four options available to have a bet. At the time of writing this, Ramires is 12/1 to be the first goalscorer. Check out the odds here!
