Antonio Conte tracking PSG defensive midfielder. Do you think he would fit in at Chelsea?
According to reports, Chelsea are tracking Marco Verratti of PSG and Antonio Conte has identifie...
I have to say that personally, when I first read these reports, I thought that there is not a chance that we would be able to prize him away from Paris Saint Germain. However, reporters asked his agent about a possible move and the fact that he had recently signed a five-year extension to his contract in the French capital, his agent responded by saying:
"The contracts are made and unmade in three minutes." - Source: The Mirror. The report also states that his client would only be prepared to move if PSG fail to win something this year which is worth noting.
As we have seen, anything can happen as we have seen with the return of David Luiz to Chelsea. The club had no intention of selling him having paid a small fortune to sign him a couple of seasons ago but the player forced the move. Luiz spoke directly with the owner of the club and explained his desire to return to West London and to win the Premier League having missed out in his first stint here with us.
As for Verratti, you would have to imagine that there are plenty of the top teams around Europe keeping track of his situation with an interest in signing him. If for some strange reason PSG do not win anything this season, then I can see that he would look to force a move away.
I have been really impressed with Verratti on each occasion we have faced PSG. The tenacious midfielder works hard in that area to close people down, make tackles and to generally make life difficult for the opposition to try and find space to exploit in front of the back four. He would be a perfect solution for Conte if we could tempt him away.
At the moment these reports are pure speculation for me. We all know that Antonio Conte is looking to strengthen his Chelsea squad in the next two transfer windows so expect plenty of other defensive midfielders to be linked with Chelsea in the coming months.
What do you think of Verratti and of these reports?
