Antonio Conte has spoken recently and spelt out his vision of how to approach the game. As Chelsea look like a squad of players that need a real kick up the arse, the sooner the club appoint him as manager the better as far as I am concerned.
Let's be honest, Chelsea's season has been shit and we have made the worst title defence EVER! Disharmony, player unrest, players talking of moving away and no European football next season, it could not get any worse. Antonio Conte sounds like the man to arrest our dreadful slump.
Chelsea fans could be forgiven to have taken the last decade for granted. A team blessed with inspirational figures, natural leaders and people that could pull us out of a hole, we have been left with hardly anything. As our club look for direction and for someone to come in a install discipline, a willingness to work hard and to fight for every point - Antonio Conte's words should be music to all our ears.
When asked of his management style and his view of the game he responded by saying:
'I don't believe in the idea that all that matters is taking part. I don't do anything just for the sake of doing it. I am a perfectionist.
I want players to have manners and respect. They will get that from me and I want it from them. I never trust a player who has no manners.
You have to be in love with the game to play this sport. If I see someone is playing without passion and is dragging their feet on the training pitch, coming to training tired, then it annoys me.'
You look around our team week in, week out and there is a real lack of leadership and direction in my eyes. When things go wrong our heads drop and people look around at each other almost clueless. It's at time like these in past we would look to the likes of JT, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba for inspiration, to give us a kick up the arse and to give us something in the game to put us back into contention. That's all lost now and this season has exposed it more than ever.
Personally, when it comes to management I am 100% for a manager to be up on the edge of his technical area shouting and barking at his players to get more from them or to at least know that what they are giving us is unacceptable. The manager can be just as important as those who cross that white line. Managers that remain seated, passive and just watch the game play out do not interest me at all. If anything, you want a fear factor within.
I really like what he has said and exactly how he has said it. How many times this season have we questioned team selections with the 'regulars' being selected when they were just not performing to the levels expected? Conte will not accept it from anyone - no matter who they are and I like it.
Some Chelsea players have become too comfortable at the club and in the team. They need to be aware that it doesn't matter what it says on the back of their shirts, they need to work just as hard as everyone else or they are out, because right now that's not what happens here.
He sounds like a master tactician, someone who if his players buy into his methods and philosophy they will run through walls for him but also a strict disciplinarian.
Right now, looking at the mess we find ourselves in, Antonio Conte is the man to sort this crap out!
