Chelsea drew with Tottenham 0-0 at White Hart Lane yesterday. In my view it was a good point and performance. What did you think?
Chelsea had been on the up with two good wins with clean sheets and I said before the game yesterday that this game could turn out to be a pivotal moment in our season. A victory would have really instilled belief throughout and would in my opinion, see Chelsea really kick on as we move towards the busy festive period.
A defeat would have really hit us hard and no doubt would put immense pressure on everyone at the club. Any hopes of a top four finish would be in serious jeopardy and our confidence would be shot. So in the end, a point is OK.
The decision to play the false nine formation worked for me in this one and there were plenty of encouraging signs when we were attacking Tottenham. The inter-changeable movement from our front four was good and it caused their defence problems.
We lacked that final ball yesterday whether it was to play someone in or to just cross it early and our set piece delivery let us down which is really frustrating considering the aerial threat we pose.
At times we still look a bit shaky in defence and Asmir Begovic was called upon and did well on too many occasions for my liking. The Cahill and Zouma partnership is at its early stages and I have already stated on here that it concerns me as both are better with JT playing next to them, talking and organising.
As for Tottenham? We know how much of a good side they have become but they missed Deli Alli who would have caused us problems. I thought we coped well with the threat of Harry Kane and he offered little compared to the week before.
With both of the Tottenham full backs being booked in the first half, I would have liked to have seen us really attack them at every opportunity to put them under pressure but we never really seemed to do that. I would have switched Eden Hazard to play up against Danny Rose for the whole second half and asked him to stay in that position, to not come inside.
Although plenty of the opinions this morning are that Chelsea came to the Lane and parked the bus, I personally see plenty of positives from it.
