There has been one report that has been doing the rounds over the last week or so and that involves West Ham left back Aaron Cresswell. These reports state that Chelsea would be willing to spend as much as £20m on the player provided we can sell Filipe Luis first!
Now as with any rumour, we have to decide whether it has substance or if this is just one of these stories pulled out of nowhere to sell copy for the Press. I personally do not believe this one but because it has featured so much of late, I wanted to give my opinion to see what you people thought also.
As for Filipe Luis leaving the club? Well that COULD have substance purely because of the number of games the Brazilian has featured for Chelsea. Think back to last season, people were saying the same about an ageing Ashley Cole. It's important to remember that Cesar Azpilicueta is clearly Mourinho's first choice and has played consistently well enough to keep his place.
It all comes down to the player himself, whether he still feels good at Chelsea and is willing to be patient as I believe that next season Luis could feature prominently in the side.
Let's also not forget that Luis has already denied exit reports earlier in the season and I cannot see that changing. Let's also not forget that people have linked Luis with a return to Atletico Madrid but with their financial situation, they would hardly be able to afford to pay more than the reported £16m Chelsea paid for him in addition to his wages!
As for Aaron Cresswell? Granted he has had a good season and has adapted to the pace and power of the Premier League. Has he really done enough to force a move away from West Ham having signed a five-year contract last summer and do we think that is also enough for Jose Mourinho to spend £20m on him? Not for me.
Give it another season for both players and we will see where they both stand with their careers. As I said I believe next season will be Luis' chance to shine at Chelsea so I do not see Jose selling him this summer.
What do you people think of the rumour and of Filipe Luis?
