It always disappoints us when you read quotes from ex-players especially when you know as well as they do it was for the best.

Kevin DeBruyne has filled the pages of our national press after speaking to a news source in Germany of leaving Chelsea.

In the article, he claims that he didn't play because his initial transfer fee was not big enough.

He said:

“Chelsea has not been the best choice at that point in time then.

Being with Chelsea is like being in a different world. Manager José Mourinho did not explain to me why I was not playing more regularly for the club.

Maybe things would have been different if Chelsea FC had to pay 45 million Euro and not 8 million Euro when I arrived from Racing Genk.

A higher transfer fee would have potentially handed me a different sort of status inside the club. And, possibly, handed me more chances (to play more regularly).

I feel very much at home with Wolfsburg in this very moment. I am able to sign a new contract with Wolfsburg.

Life in football can be fast moving. Football is much about money. Wolfsburg is not yet like Bayern Munich, of course. And my biggest ambition is to come out for a big European club, ne I can win trophies with. As much trophies as possible.”

His comments are ridiculous as he all knew the manager was not happy with his performances.

The press at the time ran numerous articles stating that the problem was his work rate so for him to claim it was because of the small amount we paid for him is absurd!

Look at what happened to Juan Mata later that season for example. Mata was signed for three times as much as the Belgian playmaker but he suffered the same fate because of the same issues.

You only have to look at Willian for example to see what is required in that position playing for Jose Mourinho. Oscar is another and now we are seeing the most technically gifted player in the Premier League Eden Hazard do the same!

As much as I like Kevin DeBruyne and the obvious talent he has, he never worked hard without the ball or hard enough and that's why the decision was made to sell him.
