Chelsea managed to secure all three points on Tuesday night against Sporting Lisbon which puts José Mourinho’s team top of Group G. The blues are now set to play back-to back games against Maribor, who are proving to be a difficult opponent by drawing with Schalke and with sporting Lisbon to secure second place in the group.
Now, Chelsea’s chances to win the Champions League outright are at 13/2 odds behind Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich – odds taken from BET365 which now has a new bonus/referrer code.
Talking after the game, Mourinho praised the performance of the players especially Matic, who put the team ahead in the first half with the help of a free kick from Fabregas. Mourinho also acknowledged the importance of a strong performance from his team against Maribor stating “We are not in a comfortable position but in one where we can control our own destiny” because of losing two points at home against Schalke in the first match of the group stage.
The matches against Maribor are lucky enough to be at Stamford Bridge which should make it a little easier on the team. Two wins against Maribor would mean the blues lead their group with 10 points and that’s the “job done” according to Mourinho.
The Blues face Arsenal next in this weekend’s London Derby at Stamford Bridge. After just dropping just 2 points in their first six games, the pressure is on to continue this winning streak. As long as there will be no injuries added to the list there is a good chance Mourinho’s men will achieve the stability they desire in the champions league by securing the 6 points in the coming games against Maribor.
