Since his two-year loan move to AC Milan, there has been plenty of opinion of his time here. A quote that he come out of Milan has annoyed me to the point that I want to ask the opinion of the football fan reading this post, to see if you agree.
I have written my own idea as to why things never really worked out for Torres at Chelsea in a detailed post here (so check it out!) but also respect that everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
However, there is one opinion that has riled me and in my eyes it's total bollocks. It comes from Stefano Eranio, ex-player and the AC Milan youth coach now. He said:
‘Torres is a very humble player, he has great technical and human qualities.
In recent years he has not been in contention much and has spent a long time on the Chelsea bench.
But he is like a car, he needs to play to find his form. He needs the confidence of the coach and to make the most of his surroundings.
As a coach, I say that I would always want someone like Torres in the team. He arrives in Italy with great enthusiasm, and has specific characteristics that would suit Milan perfectly.’
How do you people feel about his comments? Do you feel as I do, that Torres was given more than enough of a crack at making it here and played more than enough games? Or, do you agree with Eranio?
I agree that for strikers in particular, confidence is key. There were times that Torres got himself into a rut and couldn't shake himself out of it. I remember that it was only when he was kicked in the face at Stamford Bridge in the Europa League, that it seemed to awaken this fire inside him and he looked like a different player altogether.
Whether some people think that it was weight of the transfer fee and expectation that was too much for him, or if you agree with my other post (linked to above) that our playing style has hampered Torres throughout his time here, it just never happened as much as we all wanted it to.
What do you think about the claims made by Eranio?
