If reports are to be believed in the last 24 hours, Didier Drogba is to sign a one-year contract this week to return to Chelsea as Atletico Madrid are looking to re-sign Fernando Torres!
According to L'Equipe, Drogba will sign the playing contract with the promise of a coaching role alongside Jose Mourinho once he decides to formally retire from playing.
As we know, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o have both left the club. Diego Costa and joined from Atletico and links up with Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku who has just returned from a season long loan at Everton.
The situation with Lukaku remains unclear as we are reading conflicting reports on almost a daily basis. Some reports indicate he will stay and be given another chance by the manager, others state that a number of clubs have made their interest known to the club, and he will be sold.
With Drogba's apparent arrival this week, four into three places within the squad doesn't fit and according to reports coming out of Spain, Atletico Madrid are looking to re-sign Fernando Torres so it looks as though Lukaku will be given the chance he is looking for.
So what of Drogba and his return? First and foremost it's important to say that whatever happens, no one can deny the role he played for this club in the most successful era in our history.
Would a possible return tarnish what he achieved here? I do not agree at all. If anything, Drogba will provide Jose Mourinho with the option we never had last season.
Think back to how many times we couldn't break teams down and needed something different, an alternative approach. Drogba would give us that even still and with Lukaku under his wing, it makes perfect sense to me.
As for a coaching role after he finishes playing? What better role model for the youngsters to aim to aspire to?
It finally looks like Fernando Torres will get his wish to finish his career where it all started in Madrid.
If reports are to be believed from Spain, representatives from Atletico have been in London all weekend negotiating a deal to take the Spanish striker home. Chelsea are looking for a fee of around £13m but it's believed that the La Liga Champions are looking for Chelsea to reduce their asking price.
In my opinion it's another deal that would make perfect sense for everyone concerned. Despite how much we love and respect Torres, it simply hasn't worked out as we all wanted and maybe Jose has decided it's time for us all to move on.
As Chelsea prepare to start their European Pre Season Tour today, it seems that it could be a very busy week for the club, despite the manager stating that our business is done and the window for Chelsea is closed.
What do you people think about Drogba's return and of Torres being sold?
