We have come to the end of the season and on Monday night at Stamford Bridge, the end of the season Player of the Year awards take place. Here is my THREE nominee's for the award.

Cesar Azpilicueta.

Think back to the start of the season. Cesar Azpilicueta was not picked as part of Jose Mourinho's first team. His first appearance of the season was as a substitute in the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United. His first start of the season was against Swindon Town in the League Cup on 24th September, followed by his next start in the Champions League away to Schalke on 22nd October.

However, Azpilicueta really made an impact at The Emirates on 29th October as Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-0 in the League Cup. A game that the Spaniard scored his first Chelsea goal.

From that moment on, apart from the odd game here and there, Cesar Azpilicueta made the left back spot his own and never looked back.

From being a bit part player for the opening months of the season to one of the first names on our team sheet, Azpilicueta has delivered consistent performances week in, week out. It's just a shame he gave away the penalty against Sunderland that cost us so dearly.

Apart from that mistake, the only one I can think of, Cesar Azpilicueta has been outstanding and deserves to be in my top three for the season.

Gary Cahill.

Surely now the best centre back in the Premier League and for England heading into the World Cup? Gary Cahill continues to grow as a player and once again this season has been fantastic and our best defender.

I mentioned Azpilicueta above but how many times have we seen Gary Cahill make a last ditch tackle or block this season! Even this past weekend against Norwich, Cahill made yet another last ditch tackle towards the end of the game to save us!

You think back to how much Chelsea signed Cahill for from Bolton, around £7-£8m and it has to be one of the best signings we have ever made for that amount of money!

Cahill has demonstrated time and time again this season his ability to play both the centre back roles. Whether it's to man mark or to cover, he has demonstrated such consistency in his game. In addition he very rarely makes a costly mistake or is easily beaten.

Cahill and Azpilicueta had formed the basis of the best defence in the Premier League playing alongside John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic and going into the final game of our season, I can't see that record being taken away from us which is a testament to them all.

Without question he has improved every area of his game and working with Terry every day has seen his positional awareness improve. As I said before, just how many times have we seen him in the right place, right time to make important tackles or blocks?

It's reported that Jose Mourinho is looking for some new untouchables at Chelsea going forward. Surely Gary Cahill has to be one of them.

Eden Hazard.

World class, outstanding, awarded the Premier League Young Player of the Season last week by his fellow professionals and second only to Luis Suarez in the vote for the Player of the Season, what more can be said about our Belgian?

Future Ballon D'Or winner and someone who has the potential to be the best in the world or at least as good as the likes of Cristano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Hazard has the world at his feet. It will be interesting to see how he performs this summer in the World Cup on the biggest stage of all.

We have really seen Eden Hazard come into his own this season and arguably, better since the departure of Juan Mata.

Hazard has the ability, with his low centre of gravity, to hold onto the ball and move it away from someone so quickly and it gives him the edge over the defender or opponent he comes up against. Of course his pace gives him another dimension to his game but over the second part of the season, he has become instrumental in Chelsea's form in sealing a top three place in the Premier League and a Champions League semi final.

He continues to score goals and provide assists to his team mates and will finish this term as our top scorer. The most important thing to remember is that under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, he will continue to improve and grow as a player and that can only be good for Chelsea moving forward.

For now, named alongside Gary Cahill and Petr Cech in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season 2013-14, Eden Hazard has been one of our best performers this season and deserves to be nominated as part of my three for the season.

  1. No disrespect to the other two but...Cahill all day, everyday.

  2. Mikel performed better than other Chelseafc player this season. He should be given the award.

  3. I think you might mean Matic, Mikel hasn't even performed at HIS best never mind better than any other player. He was one of our worst players over the course of the season.
