This morning, Sky Sports has been reporting that Barcelona have launched an official bid for Chelsea defender/midfield-convert, David Luiz. To that, I hope the Roman Emperor & Co. tell Barca in the most severely offensive and expletive-laden way possible, “No.”

No, David Luiz cannot grace your back line, nor your midfield. We want him at Chelsea. He’s got huge potential, a bigger personality, and seems to command the respect of the entire squad in ways that John Terry or Frank Lampard have over the past decade. He’s a charismatic and exciting player, a fan favorite, even if not the most stable at times and has his “Playstation” tendencies. But I wouldn't trade him for the world. He’s versatile, unbelievably talented, and I think under Mourinho’s tutelage, he’ll become one of the best in the world, wherever Mou decides to deploy him. I see him being the face of Chelsea’s defense for years to come – a future captain in the making.

Transfer speculation is just that: speculation. However, this whole development worries me a bit – Luiz hasn't been training with the rest of the team. A reported minor hamstring injury has kept him out of participation in the exciting Guinness International Champions Cup him training on his own, and will likely keep him out of action tonight against Madrid in what promises to be an enthralling ICC Final. Maybe there’s more dubious schemes going on in the background than we’re realizing. Rooney was set to join United on their preseason tour, but pulled out due to “minor injury concerns” shortly after his transfer speculation began to skyrocket. I can’t imagine the Chelsea board would be daft enough to let a talent such as Luiz walk out the door to a squad as riddled with talent as Barca already is. Mourinho himself has said on multiple occasions that there was “no chance” of Luiz leaving, but as we've been reminded time and time again, everyone has their price.

A straight swap for Messi would do the trick for me, I think. That’s what it’d take for me to let Luiz go. Like I said, I wouldn’t “trade him for the world”, but as the general consensus seems to be that Messi is “from another planet”, I guess I could make an exception.

Let’s all pray to whoever and whatever football gods you choose to worship that Roman tells Barca to bugger off and focus their efforts elsewhere because Luiz is staying at the Bridge.
