Of all the Chelsea players, there is one that will divide opinion like no other and that's Danny Sturridge.
We all know the immense talent he has, we all know the lightening pace he has to burn and we all know he has an eye for a goal but the problem is he is too selfish.
Under Owen Coyle at Bolton first of all and then AVB at Chelsea, Sturridge was given a chance, given confidence and fed off of that. At Bolton he was a revelation and for half a season at Chelsea the same.
The problem was, there was times in games when he never worked hard to track back, never played the ball to people in much better positions in and around the box than himself and I think it cost him his place in the side.
For Sturridge himself, he would have little to argue about really. Roberto Di Matteo came and took over as manager, identified a style and formation of play he wanted to adopt here, which mean't that the wingers worked hard up and down, and Sturridge became a casualty.
I don't think anyone can say that Salomon Kalou didn't do a good job under Di Matteo, he worked so hard for the team, scored goals, created goals and improved the defensive side of his game. He did exactly what Robbie wanted from him. As a result, Sturridge never got another look in.
So, with news that Robbie Di Matteo has landed the job permanently, Sturridge must be thinking "What next for me?" and I wouldn't blame him. There has already been rumours of Man City coming back in for him for a fee of around £10m. I just wonder if we would see Sturridge look to move before the window closes.
This is where the Olympics comes in. If reports are correct, Sturridge will be named in the GB Olympic Football squad today by Stuart Pearce and will lead the line through the middle, the position he has always wanted to play ever since being back at City.
It's a chance for Sturridge to prove to everyone what he can do in that position and a chance for him to put himself in the shop window.
Now listen, I know there is plenty of speculation about Chelsea looking for another forward this summer after the departure of Didier Drogba, but I believe that with Torres as our number one now, Sturridge should be given the chance to compete for that position with him.
Chelsea have been stuck in a rut with our strikers for a while now, since the days of Robben and Duff and their departure from the club. We were stuck in a 4-3-3 formation and have never really had out and out wingers to replace them.
The likes of Anelka, Sturridge, Kalou, Drogba and Torres have ALL been asked to play out wide at some stage to fill in the gaps and it's not got the best out of them.
Like I said, with Didier gone now and Torres our number one, there is a chance for Sturridge and Lukaku to try and force their way into Robbie's thinking as backups to give him other options and to convince him that he doesn't need to spend.
I just hope that Sturridge has learn't from both halves of this season to make him a better player. That he takes this chance in the Olympics and can convince Robbie that he IS right for Chelsea and should feature in his plans.
If it means that someone sees his undoubted potential and is willing to give him the start through the middle for someone else in the Premier League and Chelsea want to sell, then so be it.
One thing is for sure, we all know that he will score goals no matter where he is. I just hope that if Sturridge has to find his football somewhere else, it doesn't come back and bite us on the arse afterwards!

Well, I believe if Sturridge is sensible he'll know Chelsea is the Best place for him. He CANNOT be 1st choice striker in the Top 6 clubs, not even Liverpool. I believe chelsea wants to make him 2nd to Torres (which is not bad for him, even Drogba was at the beginning of last season, but forced his way into 1st choice by his PERFOMANCES) which is why they're not looking for an out&out striker but an attacking winger. I think he just want a pay rise since he's got only a year left (common with many english players not withstanding performance e.g. Joe Cole) but the truth is that we've been paying him 65k/week for 3 seasons & what has he given us? Torres, Drogba, even Kalou(with far far less playing time) had more assists while most of his goals were tap-ins! I don't want him to go, & don't wish him a Good performance at the olympics (it'll only increase his ego & force a pay rise) but chelsea should sell if he still refuses contract extention. Come to think of it Bale just signed an extension of how much per week? Sturge,beware pride comes before a fall!
