You will wake up this morning and read the focus on the controversial second Chelsea goal yesterday at Wembley but do not let that detract from a fantastic Chelsea performance and result that sees us score five and set up a date with Liverpool on May 5th in the final!.

I said before the game that in this one it was literally all or nothing, explained how I saw weaknesses in Tottenham's formations with huge gaps between their defence and midfield that could be exposed and stated that Chelsea have the big game experience in our squad which could be key to getting the right result!. I am more than happy to report just how right I was!.

This wasn't just a win, it was emphatic in the end and in a way was hard on Spurs who after getting back in the game through a goal from Bale, looked dejected and downcast as Mata played in Ramires and he flicked the ball over Cudicini in goal to make it 3-1.

First half was pretty even being honest with Chelsea starting off the better and settling into the game quicker than Spurs but saying that, Spurs grew into the match the longer the first half went on and VDV had a header cleared off the line by John Terry and then a cross into the box rebound off the post.

Chelsea's best moment was a ball played into Mata running in on goal inside the box but he failed to control it with his left foot when it would have been better to hit it first time with his right.

The Didier Drogba strike was a moment of world class from the big man. Holding the ball up and turning Gallas (which is always nice), Drogba fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner. I said about big game players and Drogba is one of them. His strike was the difference at half time.

Chelsea then hit Spurs with another early in the second half as a half cleared ball from a David Luiz bullet header at the near post rebounded out to Juan Mata and his shot goal wards into the heap of players on the floor looked to be blocked or cleared before it crossed the line BUT the Referee gave it as a goal and we were 2-0 up!. It was a stroke of luck as it was never a goal.

Six minutes later Spurs then got back in it and more importantly for Chelsea, David Luiz looks like he has injured himself quite badly and is now a major doubt for Barcelona. Parker opened us up with a ball to Adebayor and he flicked the ball passed Cech and Bale followed up to slot the ball into the empty net to make it 2-1 and it looked like it was game on. Luiz was stretchered off and replaced by Cahill.

So I am thinking at the time that Chelsea need to slow the game down again and put their foot on the ball as Tottenham could be dangerous with their tails up. To Chelsea's credit, soaking up pressure from Spurs with corner after corner coming into the box, we stood firm.

It was a Gary Cahill tackle that set up Chelsea's third goal from Ramires on 77 minutes. Gareth Bale bombing down the left wing was passed Bosingwa but Cahill came across and won the ball with a great tackle right inside our own half by the corner flag and started out passing move going.

Remember how I said in my tactical analysis of Spurs that there is major holes between their midfield and defence because of a lack of a holding midfielder? Well, Juan Mata hurt Spurs twice late on by stepping into that hole.

After Cahill had won the tackle, we knocked the ball forward until it came to Mata who was free to pick out a pass from the hole into the onrushing Ramires who held of Assou-Ekotto and flicked the ball over Cudicini to restore our two goal lead. A great finish under pressure from a great spot by Mata!.

The game had now become much more wide open. Defoe came on for Spurs as they looked to chase the game but at the same time William Gallas and Ledley King looked dead on their feet and time and time again Chelsea broke on the counter attack again and again.

On 81 minutes we were doing that again when Gallas brought down Drogba who around 35 yards from goal was beaten by Drogba yet again. Frank Lampard stepped up and for once, using that ridiculous Ronaldo technique that only ever comes off perfect once in a while, managed to strike a sweet shot into the far corner of the net with Cudicini beaten as the ball moved all over the place to make it 4-1 Chelsea and it was game over!.

We should have made it 5-1 through Fernando Torres as once again Gallas was beaten this time by Malouda on the touchline. Malouda brought the ball into the box with Torres waiting near the back post area but was too hesitant to play the pass and when he did flick the ball towards the back post the moment had passed!.

However, Malouda and Chelsea made up for it on 90 minutes as once again Mata in the hole, spotted a run off the ball from Malouda and dinked a lovely pass into Malouda's stride in the box and over their back four and Malouda slotted the ball underneath Cudicini to make it 5-1.

If anything, the score was harsh on Spurs based on their first half performance as it looks like a battering. Maybe the second half was even when you take away the crazy second goal.

You simply cannot under estimate what experience means to a side and to a performance. The difference between the two sides today was simply that. The big name players in the Spurs side never performed on the big stage that is Wembley and the FA CUP semi final whereas Chelsea's did.

Luka Modric was non existent, Bale didn't really do alot and apart from some good moments in the first half VDV disappeared out of the game. I've also said it before and will say it again, Scott Parker can't do it all by himself in the middle and he lacked someone alongside him to sit and hold their position.

As for Chelsea, everyone played their part. Of course the likes of Drogba, Mata, Lampard and Terry will get plaudits for their performances on the day and rightly so, but the likes of Mikel, Ramires and Kalou were also outstanding. Tracking back, winning tackles and putting themselves on the line and fighting for the cause and for each other.

I thought we had enough about us now we have picked ourselves up with Robbie Di Matteo in charge and thought we could nick this one and it would be a tight game. Not a single person thought we would come away winning 5-1 so it's important to have enjoyed it last night and this morning as we all go back to work but our focus now turns to Wednesday.

You know, people had written Chelsea off a few weeks ago and the same old argument and ridiculous articles and statements were being made about our old timers and the fact that these people believed that they were finished.

First Napoli and now Tottenham, these are performances that show everyone that you cannot underestimate the power of experience and the power Chelsea have when we are on our game.

Barcelona, I hope you were watching!.

  1. Defoe came on in the 75th min. Not After the Ramires goal (77th min) as you intimate. The space you talk about Mata finding was not available while VDV was on the field as he essentially plays in midfield. The reason Harry went 442 was to get a goal. Had the ghost goal not been awarded this need would have been less pressing. Therefore the ghost goal irrevocably altered the game. The game after that was ruined. And I wouldn't call it luck. Atkinson decided to give a goal that he couldn't have known was scored. The reason, probably, was Mata's convincing celebration. Therefore cheating had a hand in the goal as well as guessing by the ref.

  2. An investigation is needed along the lines of that which found out the Pakistani cricketers. There can be no other explanation as to how an official can get a decision so absolutely wrong. Ultimately it may not have changed the final result, a Chelsea victory, but to say It didn't have a massive influence on the game would be a denial. Something very evil has occurred. Actually, talking about evil, how evil can you get singing and shouting through a minutes silence to remember the dead. Chelsea really are a shameful shameful club.

  3. I think Atkinson wrote this article, seeing things that dint exist & inventing facts. 3-1 & then Defoe came on??? How desperate to be right, all this "like I said before the game, huge holes in Spurs' midfield" well they weren't there you bias fan. I don't mind people being blind to the facts when chatting down the pub in heat of the moment but to write out an article???? Mate stick to watching the game & take note of what happens rather than what you "see"!!!!
I cab humbly, although disappointedly say that Redknapp screwed up, it was too early to bring on Defoe, we were well on top. Boswinga wasting time, over a minute to take 2 throw ins in the right back position. They knew they were under the cosh!!! I think we could've scored to force extra time. At 75mins + injury time for Luiz there was best part of 20mins left!!! Harry mistake but the ref created the pressure which Harry buckled under. Good luck Harry & England!

  4. At 50mins,a goal that never was broke the morale of tott players....at 56mins,a bale goal put the totts back in the game!i just dont see how a 5-1 thrashing can all be blamed on a goal that never was that occured 5mins past halftime.mayb wat harry shuld be doin is teachin his players how to get back into the game after a 'wrongful' decision!coz...we all know these decisions do happen...its up to the players to pick themselves up n decide to fight till the end.if they couldnt do that, then chelsea really did deserve the win!
