The number 11 short is already "reserved" in China for Drogba!

Fresh from scoring his 100th Premier League goal for Chelsea against Stoke at the weekend, there is yet more speculation about Didier in the press. Why is it when players leave the club, they just can't help themselves but to start rumours and speculation when if they say these people are "friends" they should just let them concentrate on the rest of the season!?.

The person I am referring to is Nico Anelka. We all know what happened that led to him leaving Chelsea. That situation is over now as Anelka has moved on and so has AVB but when asked about Didier Drogba leaving us when his contract expires at the end of the season Anelka said recently:

“If I could choose any of my former teammates to join me at Shenhua, it would be Didier.

It’s difficult for me to say much at this time, but I speak with him on a regular basis and I expect him to come to Shanghai. When I left Chelsea, I told him we’d play together again soon."

Why do it? Why start up all the speculation and focus on Drogba when he speaks to the media again now? Surely it would be better for Anelka to keep quiet and allow Drogba to concentrate on what is going to be a really important couple of months for Chelsea?

Not only that but in addition to what Anelka has said, Club owner and chairman Zhu Jun said:

“During negotiations, Drogba said that he liked the number 11 – so to show the club’s sincerity, we reserved it for him.”

I just wonder what will happen to Didier Drogba in the summer. Will the club take the decision to allow him to leave when his contract expires before a new manager is in place? Will the new manager want Drogba as part of his plans? We will have to wait and see.

I can't help but think that if and I do mean IF, Jose Mourinho made a dramatic return to the football club, that he asks for Drogba to be given a one year contract?.

Let's just hope Drogba and the rest of the players remain focused on Chelsea.
