Chelsea 1-3 Aston Villa - CLUELESS!!

Comments

You could see it coming a mile off couldn't you!. Once again we struggled to break a side down that comes here and lines up with ten men behind the ball. It's all well and good having the majority of the possession of the ball but you HAVE TO do something with it.

How many fucking times am I saying the same thing over and over again? I have been doing so for almost a year now and WE STILL STRUGGLE!!!.

Let me say now, fair play to Aston Villa. Just like Fulham, Chelsea never did enough to beat you today and you sat back and soaked up our pressure and hit us on the counter attack in typical smash a grab fashion!.

Some staunch Chelsea fans will argue that we were chasing the win and that's fair enough but why on earth do we wait that long to do so?.

Didier Drogba scored his 150th goal for Chelsea from the penalty spot but apart from that and the little piece of skill he did to win the pen, he did NOTHING again all game! Where has the "Unplayable Drogba" we saw against Valencia gone!?

Believe it or not I thought David Luiz had a good game even then we conceded three!. Petr Cech again will have questions asked of him for each of the goals where he was on the fucking floor before the ball had even been struck!. Ferreira, Cole and JT must do better!.

Ramires worked hard as usual, Meireles needs to just concentrate on passing the ball and stop shooting for 30-40 yards out for christ sakes!. Romeu had an OK game but I personally would have kept him on for insurance at the back as we chased the game. Lampard came on for him, but for me it should have been Meireles.

Sturridge was too greedy again and faded out of the game, Mata was busy but not involved enough and to be fair to him, he had no ball to play in behind every time he looked up cause Drogba couldn't be bothered!.

I simply cannot believe that I am sitting here saying the same thing over and over again on my blog. We move on from one week to the next lately seeing the same thing. Teams line up defensively against us and we struggle to break them down and have suffered for it for four games now!

We have become clueless and seem to have a lack of ideas as to how to change things. The difference today, Villa had their focus, they knew exactly what they needed to do and they knew if they could break on the counter that we would be vulnerable. Their game plan worked and ours didn't.

So it leaves us outside the top four tonight and again wondering what the fuck is happening. It's like we have travelled forward a year but find ourselves exactly in the same position we did a year ago!.

CLUELESS!

CAHILL - "Immense technical attributes and pace!"

Comments

Every single media outlet has now confirmed that Chelsea have agreed a fee with Bolton for the transfer of Gary Cahill. The fee is around £7m.

Bolton Boss Owen Coyle confirmed the deal was in place and said:
"There has been a fee agreed between the clubs and we have now given Gary's representatives permission to speak to Chelsea. That is where we are with it.

We obviously have a game tomorrow and I have said to Gary that he has to be focused on giving everything for Bolton Wanderers.

He knows Bolton Wanderers have been terrific for him just as much as Gary has been for us.

That is why they have representatives — to sort that out — and whatever January 1 brings, it will bring."

AVB in todays press conference has also spoken of Cahill and said:
"Cahill's technical attributes are immense and he has a lot of pace, he has played very well at international level."
However, he also confirmed that at the moment the two parties are miles apart in agreeing personal terms which could delay the move. For me, I can't see why there would be any delay really, just get the bloody deal done!

January WILL BE the busiest window we've had in ages!

Comments

It's common knowledge that firstly, Alex handed in a transfer request that has been accepted by Chelsea and he is expected to leave next month. Secondly, Florent Malouda has spoken out about leaving the club if he doesn't play more football and finally, Carlo Ancelotti will be named the new PSG manager this afternoon.

The reason I am writing about all this together? Ancelotti is expected to make a bid to sign both of them as early as next week as he takes the helm of the french giants and I believe that they WILL leave the club as AVB continues to revamp the squad he inherited when he arrived here.

In what is normally a quiet-ish January with only one or two deals being done, this could become the busiest January transfer window of recent times with players coming in and leaving. We already know that Nicolas Anelka is out the door and Gary Cahill is more or less a done deal coming in.

The reason I am more excited about this transfer window is because it's a sign once again that Roman Abramovich is backing his manager and more importantly, the manager's decisions. Remember last January? There is still an argument that only one of David Luiz and Fernando Torres was a signing requested by Carlo and the other bought by Abramovich. One thing AVB has done since he came in is to gain total control of the players that come in and leave and that's exciting. Gone are the days of a Shevchenko coming in and the manager being told to "fit him in!".

AVB needs to revamp this squad as we all know and I have to admit, I thought the busiest time would be the summer but, as we are beginning to see, he has looked at his players, given them and chance and made ruthless decisions.

Those decisions look like starting with Alex and Malouda being offloaded to PSG as early as next week!

Chelsea v Aston Villa - Who plays?

Comments

It's a game we simply have to win to keep on the tail of Spurs and anything else will be a disaster as far as I am concerned. We have drawn our last three Premier League games and we need to turn things round starting on Saturday.

So with this in mind, the fact that we are at home and the fact that we need to put a side out on that pitch at 1500 to get three points I am asking you all the question:
Who starts the game for Chelsea?
Now you also have to bear in mind we face Wolves away 48 hours later and with AVB's track record of playing fresh players I just wonder who he will pick for Villa.

I have had my say earlier today on how we should approach the game and who should be playing so check that out if you haven't seen it. For now, for me I would make one change to the side I have picked in my last post so my team would be:

Cech, Bosingwa, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Romeu, Meireles, Ramires, Mata, Sturridge and Torres. Our formation should be 4-2-3-1 with Meireles playing further forward and Ramires next to Romeu.

What do you people think? Who should start the game to get us the much needed three points?

AVB - Here's the answer to our problems!

Comments

Something has been bugging me now for a couple of months and I still cannot see why AVB hasn't decided to implement this ever since we lost at Old Trafford!.

Remember how we were being battered by United and then made a switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation that literally changed the game for us?. Remember how with this system, we created 31 ATTEMPTS ON GOAL! AT OLD TRAFFORD! and but for some woeful finishing (which at times has really cost us this season) we could have come away with maybe at least a point if not more!?

Well, could the 4-2-3-1 system be the answer to all our problems?. OK, it means playing 2 holding midfielders, or at least deeper than the three attacking midfielders who are supporting our lone striker, but with the form Oriol Romeu has shown which has forced AVB's hand to play him each week, why not?

Let's face it, teams expect Chelsea to line up in our 4-3-3 formation and especially when playing at Stamford Bridge, line up to cope with it defensively. Time and time again we see Chelsea really struggle to break teams down and we have drawn the last three league games. The Spurs result and performance to one side, we should have easily beaten Wigan and Fulham.

So the way I see it is that if we ARE struggling to beat teams with this formation and have also lost important games then why not change it?.

With the 4-2-3-1 formation it allows us to have a base to build from in midfield also offering our back four the necessary protection. The effect of the formation would be to say to the three attacking midfielders behind the lone striker to go and win the game for us. They have the freedom to move around, create space and openings for each other.

It would be a nightmare for defenders and opposing midfielders to deal with as we would force their midfield backwards to cope.

For example, why couldn't we go with this team on Saturday against Villa in the 4-2-3-1 formation?:

Now for me this gives us plenty of options. Ramires has already shown how much he has improved and is all over the pitch anyway. By playing further forward supporting Torres through the middle could prove to be a masterstroke. If AVB wants to press the opposition in their own half when they have the ball, Ramires would be your man.

Obviously, Sturridge and Mata have both shown how effective they can be by making runs inside from wide positions or coming inside to pick the ball up. Both can create and score goals from their starting positions.

Most important would be what this formation would mean to Fernando Torres. With playing three attacking midfielders pushed further forward, he would more than likely be able to play higher up on the shoulder of the last defender. With support from the three in behind him, he would finally get the service he needs. For example, Anelka was asked to play wide left of the three in the second half at OT and Torres, on the shoulder of the last defender, made the run, was played in and scored.

Romeu and Meireles are both playing well and should start next to each other. Raul Meireles got through so much of the ugly work in both the Spurs and Fulham games in midfield that he now has to start ahead of Lampard.

Both full backs would be encouraged to pick their moments going forward knowing that Romeu or Meireles would move sideways to cover them when they do so it creates a more solid approach to going forward.

I personally think this would work and I would love to see AVB change to this for Saturday or the foreseeable future with Drogba going to the African Cup of Nations meaning that Fernando Torres would get the regular start. We should use this time to try something new to get the best out of the team and out of Torres. What do you people think? Would you see this as a positive change? Or, do you think we should stick to what we have at the moment and see what happens?

Chelsea's first signing!

Comments

It's common knowledge that AVB wants Gary Cahill and late last night The Mirror broke an "Exclusive" stating that a fee of £7m that has been touted about HAS been agreed between Bolton and Chelsea and it's now in the hands of the players agent and Chelsea's Ron Gourlay to thrash out personal terms.

A deal is being reported as being completed within days of the window being opened. What do you people think of Cahill and the deal in general?

I know that there is divided opinion amongst Chelsea fans about Cahill but I like him.

He is English which is the most important thing in relation to the home grown ruling that all clubs now have to abide by. He is already an England international and has already partnered John Terry playing on the international stage and finally, he will learn so much from JT by being here.

Whether or not he starts games straight away for Chelsea is another thing but I am happy with the signing as long as the deal can be done. If it's completed sooner rather than later, will it mean we see David Luiz pushed into the middle of midfield or at right back? Will we have to wait and see.

So for me, last night's news is another step forward in my eyes by AVB has he continues to rebuild our squad. It is never ever going to be easy replacing players here that have been there and won that over recent seasons. With Alex wanting to leave, Cahill is the perfect replacement.

What do you think?

AVB - Time to tell this one he can go!

Comments

I shook my head in disbelief when I read an interview with Florent Malouda featured in The Telegraph. Malouda, who has struggled to reach anywhere his best form for two seasons now is quoted as saying:
"I'm not getting enough playing time, It's too limited for the ambitions I have. I can't be happy with that. If it is necessary, I will leave."
(Source)
If you asked me to comment on him saying something like this then I would have said it simply isn't true as three seasons ago he was outstanding as we lifted the League and Cup double. Since then, he has been a shadow of his former self here and it's about time he had a look in the mirror!

Last season I said he was playing as if he had a chip on his shoulder and to sort it out and this season to me anyway, he has no grounds to moan about not being in the side because he simply hasn't been good enough compared to Juan Mata and is now too slow and laboured with the ball and is one of those players that slows our play down far too much.

Besides that, I think if you think about it, you can probably count on one hand the amount of time when he has played, that he has played in Fernando Torres on goal after Torres makes one of his runs.

So, I hope AVB has read this and tells him he can go. There are better replacements out there that can do a better job!

£150m for AVB to spend in January - Who would you buy?

Comments

It was interesting reading the other day when I spotted this article in The SUN stating that AVB will be given a £150 "war chest" from Roman Abramovich to spend in January as he is desperate to cut the gap to Manchester City and United in the title race.

According to the article, Chelsea are looking at Edison Cavani and Marek Hamsek of Napoli, Milos Krasic and Gary Cahill.

In addition to those players, it's also being reported in the media that Chelsea are looking at a raid on Real Madrid for Higuain and Kaka that are both rumoured to be available.

It's obvious to me that we need another centre back, an attacking creative midfielder, a winger or two and a forward. It's staggering really thinking about it, just how many players we need and just how short we are in this years title race.

I just want to say on record I don't believe the figures being quoted in the paper but, if it were true I just wondered who you would tell AVB to get out and buy this summer!.

From turning the corner to the title being over - what's going on!

Comments

How many times this season have we looked like we can beat anyone and then in an instant struggle to win games?. It's so frustrating once again this season and Saturday against Fulham proved to me once again that when sides come to the Bridge and line up defensively, we struggle to break them down.

After the game AVB said:
"I think it's pretty difficult to be fair. A good December for us would have been six points from these two home games, but bearing in mind this draw – if the leading teams do their jobs – it'll be very difficult for us to win it.

You assess things as they are. There's no big drama in terms of how we look at things. But you have to be sufficiently real. The difference between us and the top will be big. We had reduced it to seven points recently, but 13 points [it is only 11] would be new for us.

That is the perspective we have to take at the moment: it's difficult. It's not impossible. You cannot say that. But we have to focus on our position at the moment and make a real assessment. Maybe the Premiership is over for us at the moment.

We had targeted the December fixtures as an ideal situation to find out what would happen. We continue to do that. There is always tension for you to get results in a massive club like this one. You have to be real. You cannot live under false expectations when the gap is this big."
(Source)
Let's be honest here, most of us thought the Premier League title dream was over after we lost at home to Arsenal and then Liverpool. OK, we picked up our form and ARE unbeaten in the last five league games but to draw at Wigan and then home to Fulham is something we never expected. We should be putting these teams to bed and winning these games easy!.

But as I have said all along, we need to earn the right to win the games and in those two we simply haven't earned that right. Whether it's down to team selection, substitutions, the manager himself of player performances the evidence is there for all to see.

We are now in a fight for third place in the League this season and after such high expectations from this season, again we have to settle for less for another season!.

Chelsea 1-1 Fulham - No surprise really!

Comments

I have said it's no surprise that we drew 1-1 in this one really based on our performances of late. We pick ourselves up for the big games like Newcastle, City and Spurs in the league but for some reason our performances suffer against the likes of Wigan and now Fulham!. In saying that I mean no disrespect to both those sides and to Fulham especially as I don't think Fulham fans thought they would come away with anything after being stuffed 5-0 at home to United.

To their credit they played well, approached the game the right way, defended well and some stand out performers in their Keeper, Ruiz, Dempsey and Bryan Ruiz always kept them in the game despite going a goal down.

So what of our performance? People will once again focus on Torres but to me it's obvious everything we see him play. He is crying out for the service but in the right areas! When he got the service in behind he nearly scored with volley from close range after chesting the ball down. I still can't understand why when Drogba came on he was asked to come out wide right and play there! Surely Drogba would have done a better job there with Torres staying where he was!

Chelsea were disappointing to say the least, we picked up our performance in the second half but again lacked that killer ball and had to settle for efforts outside the box which were easy for the keeper to push over the bar.

Frank Lampard didn't have a good enough game and as taken off, quite rightly so and he wasn't the only one. I thought JT, David Luiz, Raul Meireles and Oriol Romeu were our best players and the result was harsh on them.

Once again another error from Petr Cech cost us to be fair and he really needs to sort out coming for those crosses with confidence. We could argue that the cross should have been stopped in the first place but even still, he should have done better!

So, that's another two points dropped and with United and Spurs winning we are now in a real battle for fourth right now.

After a performance at Spurs where AVB declared that we had turned the corner, we took another two steps back and that's hugely disappointing for all of us!

Credit to Fulham, you deserved a point because once again we simply weren't good enough to beat you!

Chelsea v Fulham - Three points will be hard today!

Comments

So here we go with the madness that happens every year around the Christmas and New Year period with games coming thick and fast. After a good point at White Hart Lane, Chelsea have a chance to grab six points in the next few days against Villa on Saturday and Fulham today.

This afternoon is our second London derby in the space of four days and will be just as difficult as Spurs was. Fulham always play well at Stamford Bridge and will be looking to make life difficult.

Chelsea fans! Why not go and try the brand new Indian Restaurant in Fulham Broadway The MASALA ZONE before or after the game.

So if you need food before or after the game then why not head to The Masala Zone (opposite Barclays Bank) and please mention you have seen this advert on my website "Chelseadaft" for me when you go in

The Masala Zone - Real Indian Food!

Chelsea have massive injury problems at the back and for me, I would have brought Alex back into the fold with Ivanovic and Luiz missing today. However, I can understand why AVB has chosen not to. I just hope we don't shoot ourselves in the foot with this one.

So, it looks like Jose Bosingwa will continue at centre back next to JT and Paulo Ferreira will play at right back. Expect Frank Lampard to take the place of the suspended Ramires, Romeu come back into the side in the place of Mikel and maybe, just maybe Fernando Torres will start today in place of Didier Drogba?.

I wouldn't be surprised if Drogba starts again with the African Nations Cup just around the corner, it would be nice to see Torres get a game today.

Make no mistake, Fulham are a dangerous side we face today. In Dempsey they will always pose us a threat and we need to be aware of his positions in and around the box.

Fulham have nothing to lose here today, Chelsea have everything and simply cannot afford to drop points.

Let's hope we play well and get the win today to keep our revival going. It won't be easy but as long as we can stay tight at the back, the likes of Juan Mata and the in-form Danny Sturridge can win this one for us!

Come on Chelsea!

Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea: Now that was a Christmas cracker!

Comments

What a game of football it was last night. Tottenham dominated the first part of the game, Chelsea then got back into it, Spurs had to make a change to their formation and Chelsea dominated and should have won the game but then Spurs could have nicked it right at the end. It had everything!.

Both teams would be happy to take a point away from this one and both would feel as though they should have won it!. It was a great London derby.

I was disappointed with the goal we conceded as I thought Ivanovic could have covered Bosingwa better and Cech should have gathered the cross better. You can't really blame Cech as with Adebayor flying into the meet the cross and Cech coming out head first, you can understand why he was hesitant!. As I said, Ivanovic could have done better. Why go square onto Bale when Bosingwa had already done so? It was obvious that he would get passed him so why didn't Ivanovic drop off and cover the cross coming in?. Both mistakes were made and we went a goal down and deservedly so!.

All credit to us though for digging in!. How Sturridge blazed the rebound from a Juan Mata shot I will never know even if Ledley King got a toe to it!. He made up for it after a good move from the blues found Cole down the left from a deflection off his arm after Van Der Vaart tried to make a challenge. It was handball, but was point blank and Cole didn't really know anything about it. He looked up as he got to the byline, composed himself and drilled a fantastic cross across the goal to an unmarked Sturridge who clipped the ball into the empty net!. 1-1.

Both sides continued to press each other and create openings. It was end to end and everything you expect from the game. We nearly went in a goal up as Bosingwa crossed to the far post for Drogba who chested the ball into his path and smacked a volley onto the near post from 8 yards too!. Chelsea had made a recovery and were now back in their stride.

The second half Chelsea started even stronger because of an enforced change to the Spurs shape. Van Der Vaart had to be replaced and Spurs had to switch to a 4-4-2 formation. With the extra man Chelsea were forcing Spurs backwards, their forwards were struggling to get hold of the ball and make it stick because Chelsea were in the ascendancy now.

How many chances did we have in the second half to win the game?. Drogba played Ramires through and Friedel blocked his shot. Terry flicked the ball on at the near post from a corner and Ramires again misread the flight of the ball when he could have headed it home at the far post. Oriol Romeu shot just wide from outside the box and Juan Mata couldn't get on the end of a Sturridge cross to slot home from 10 yards!. The worst miss of the game came at the death. A cross was swung over into the box and Ramires again, this time totally unmarked lost his bearings and headed the ball just wide when the goal was gaping from just 10 yards again!.

We definitely had our chances to win this, but so did Spurs!. Adebayor had a goal disallowed which replays showed was maybe marginal, William Gallas could have scored but put the ball wide from 2 yards outside the near post from another great ball in and John Terry cleared off the line from Adebayor again with Cech beaten with one of the last kicks of the game!

All in all I was really pleased with the way we played. After the initial onslaught from Spurs, we composed ourselves, got our shape together and played well.

AVB said everyone played their part last night and he is right but I do still think a couple of players deserve a mention.

Ramires but for his finishing was once again outstanding as was Meireles. Meireles did alot of the dirty work well last night and ran his socks off, what more can you ask for. JT, despite the obvious abuse he was always going to get commanded the back four and was once again brilliant, Ashley Cole played well, Paulo Ferreira considering he hasn't played in god knows how long came in and did a great job and finally Jose Bosingwa looked far more composed at centre back defensively than he ever has at right back!

So we come away with a point from White Hart Lane which we would have taken before the game. However, it was the performance from the team that impressed me more. We put in another shift similar to Man City and Newcastle and far better than we did at Wigan!

We just need to build on this again for Fulham on Boxing Day and Villa on New Years Eve, both at home and we expect six points. If we can show the desire and quality we have in those two, we should do well.

So the blood and thunder we expected from last night wasn't exactly that but a hard fought Christmas cracker which both sides will come away from thinking that although they had the chances to win it, also had chances to lose it too!. Chelsea proved to everyone that we still have the class to be involved in the title race and shouldn't be written off. Spurs showed everyone that they ARE serious title challengers too and the progress they have made with Harry Redknapp shouldn't be underestimated!.

What a game!

Tottenham v Chelsea : It's anyone's guess!!

Comments

Tonight is one of those games you look for when the fixture list comes out, added to that it's being played on a Thursday night, it has all the makings of being a cracker!.

Regular readers of my website would have seen various posts from me this week ahead of the game. I have asked who would come out on top between Mata & Modric, asked if it's a fact that Chelsea are now underdogs heading into the game tonight, asked who starts the game for Chelsea tonight, focused on the other midfield battle at White Hart Lane, commented on the news that David Luiz is out injured and who should replace him and finally posted a video promo this morning.

So it's now match day and the game tonight is anyone's guess to be honest. Questions are being asked of both sides as to the starting eleven. We know Lennon and Luiz are out of the game already and Gareth Bale is also a doubt (which is good news for Chelsea). Bale could still make the game, if he doesn't expect Sandro to keep his place in the side.

Will Drogba start this one or will Fernando Torres finally get the chance he has been waiting for? What about Frank Lampard? Does he play or does Ramires come back and line up next to Meireles? These are all questions that will be answered around 7pm as we get the early team news.

Spurs:

It really is anyone's guess as to who starts for both sides as this game is now massive. Spurs are in the ascendancy these days. Harry Redknapp has done a fantastic job there and has built a strong squad season on season. With the addition of Scott Parker he has added some blood and thunder into the midfield and with Adebayor up front, some class.

Sitting above us and with a game in hand, Spurs are in position to cement third place in the Premier League as we head into the games over the festive period with a win. If they beat us, we surely have to see them as genuine title contenders.

Expect a 4-4-2 formation from them with Rafael Van Der Vaart in behind Adebayor to start with. Modric will move wide to allow Sandro to play next to Parker and maybe Walker pushed further forward if Bale doesn't make it. Spurs will be up for this one make no mistake.

Spurs are a threat going forward and Chelsea without Luiz, need to ensure that if they stick with Bosingwa at right back, he must be solid. Terry and Ivanovic to deal with Adebayor and Oriol Romeu mopping up just in front of our defence to nullify the threat of Van Der Vaart.

I do believe however, Spurs are vulnerable at the back.

Chelsea:

Again, it's anyone's guess as to who starts for Chelsea and being honest, what side turns up on the night. I still cannot get over last weekend against Wigan, the performance and the substitutions that were made. Chelsea looked a shadow of themselves from the side that beat Manchester City, Newcastle and Valencia.

Without question, Chelsea need their big big players to turn up and use their experience tonight. I want Torres to play but I think Drogba will start for his sheer presence up front. The question is 'will he be up for it?". Drogba on his day is simply unplayable and we need him to be that way in this one. It's not just about Drogba though for Chelsea.

In Danny Sturridge we have a player on form and scoring goals and will be a threat to Spurs. His pace and skill will test Assou Ekotto and he will have a job on his hands to keep him quiet. Sturridge could win this for us and I hope he plays well.

Expect Juan Mata to come inside and look to get on the ball as much as possible, Ramires to use his energy to get up and down the pitch with support from Meireles and Romeu. Oriol Romeu has been outstanding and hopefully, will show the Spurs fans just how good he is but helping our back four shut Spurs out. Romeu is another player who needs a big big game tonight.

This has become a game that Chelsea HAVE TO WIN. I think a draw would be acceptable but if we want to get back on a run of games we have to beat Spurs. It's possible as on our day we can beat anyone but I cannot emphasise this enough, it depends on everyone being up for it and playing well. If anyone isn't, bring them off and replace them.

For Spurs, they will want to win this one as well but would take a draw to keep above us with their game in hand.

I really hope that both sides really go for it and we have a cracking game. Who comes out on top, it's anyone's guess!

TORRES SPEAKS OUT ABOUT NOT PLAYING!

Comments

Fernando Torres doesn't often speak to the media but when he does we sit up and take notice. If you are a Chelsea fan reading this blog post, you will know that Torres hasn't started a game for Chelsea in weeks now and it must be frustrating.

Torres's future at our club was called into question last week with reports that he would be sold for £20m in January which was denied by AVB stating that he is not for sale!.

This morning, there are reports that Malaga in Spain are looking to put a bid of £30m together for him and AC Milan are looking at him as a potential loan deal after seemingly missing out on Carlos Tevez. Let me state on record, Torres will not be leaving.

Looking at the player himself, you'd imagine it must be hard being on the bench week in, week out but looking at the way Drogba played against Newcastle, Valencia and Manchester City, he could have no argument. However, when Drogba was awful against Wigan last Saturday and Torres was asked to go out and warm up, he was ignored and sat back on the bench as others were brought on instead. A mistake by AVB in my opinion.

It would be easy for Torres to come out and criticise the manager and to state how unhappy he his but I tell you something, credit to the man for what he has said to Spanish TV station Canal+ Liga. He said:
"I am going to try to be very humble and get back into the Chelsea starting line-up, My form has not been good but I am world and European champion and I deserve more respect.

It’s hard being on the bench but I respect the players who are playing. I’m going to support the team and get back in.

It’s true that [Spain head coach] Vicente del Bosque is worried about me and my form for Chelsea, It’s up to me to go back to being the striker I was before.

If I go back to how I was a few years ago, I will again play an important role in the Spanish national team."
(Source)
Fernando Torres is pure class and WILL get his form back. As soon as he feels as though the team will play him in when he is in space, he will get back on the shoulder of the last defender and will score goals for fun again.

It's nice to hear a World and European Champion speaking of a determination to get back in the side and if it were me, I would start him tonight.

What better way to kick start his Chelsea career (again) by scoring the winner tonight!

No Luiz for Spurs. Who plays instead?

Comments

I asked you people earlier today who you think should play tomorrow. In the side I selected (Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Romeu, Meireles, Ramires, Mata, Torres and Sturridge) you will see I indicated that Luiz would play and Ivanovic would move to right back.

Well, this afternoon AVB has confirmed that David Luiz will miss the game through injury which leaves us with a problem!.

Do we stick with Jose Bosingwa? Do we call upon Paulo Ferreira? Or do we consider playing Mikel at centre back and keep Ivanovic at right back?

What do you people think!?

Tottenham v Chelsea - The other midfield battle.

Comments

With Luka Modric and Juan Mata taking most of the attention ahead of this one tomorrow night it's important that we do not forget the other midfield battle that will take place around them. Last week against Sunderland, Sandro and Scott Parker patrolled Spurs' midfield while Meireles, Frank Lampard and Oriol Romeu patrolled Chelsea's.

We know that Harry Redknapp favours the 4-4-2 formation using his two wingers and one player playing just off of the main striker. For Chelsea, we favour a 4-3-3 formation and it could all come down to who wins the battle in the middle tomorrow.

Looking at Scott Parker you always know what you are going to get. Work-rate, desire, energy, tough tackling and putting himself about all over the place. With Sandro next to him (if he plays) he is more the passer of the two, will look to get on the ball and give it early wide or to Van Der Vaart. If Bale is passed fit then it will be interesting to see if Spurs stick Modric out wide right tomorrow which means Sandro will continue.

Chelsea are different and will be different tomorrow as the important Ramires will make his return to the fold after missing Wigan. With Oriol Romeu now ahead of Mikel in our famous holding role, he brings some class to the side. Two footed, an eye for a pass and a tackle, Romeu provides us with something quicker in that position, especially moving the ball forward.

Like I said Ramires is back tomorrow and he has been nothing but immense since he found his feet in the Premier League. His physique is slight but he more than holds his own. He has simply got better and better in a Chelsea shirt and has firmly cemented his place in the starting eleven whenever he is available. His endless energy, his breaks from midfield and his all round influence on games really has become a feature of our play.

It's a toss up between Frank Lampard and Raul Meireles for me tomorrow and although I would never have dreamed of saying this a few weeks ago, I would go with Meireles purely and simply for his range of passing. He also likes to get stuck in, but his link up play is slightly better than Lampard in my view.

We all know that Lampard gets forward and scores goals, has and will be a legend for this club, but he never cut it for me on Saturday and Chelsea look better balanced at the moment with Meireles there.

Can Chelsea's three man midfield out fight and out play Spurs' two man midfield tomorrow?

I guess we will have to just wait and see!

JOSH MCEACHRAN TOLD BY CHELSEA HE CAN GO!

Comments

According to The Guardian this morning, Josh McEachran has been told by Chelsea that he CAN leave the club on loan in January to "further his development".

I asked the question the other day about McEachran as we were linked with a £20m move for Jack Rodwell. I asked why we would want to make a move for Rodwell when we have McEachran warming our bench weekly?

I also thought that McEachran would be used as part of a deal for Gary Cahill but in this article it seems that McEachran want his own say on where he goes and not to just please AVB in a move for Cahill.

I guess it opens up the debate once more about our youngsters. Look at Gael Kakuta, he did OK at Fulham but didn't exactly set the world alight and the same can be said of this loan that's about to finish at Bolton.

It's all well and good sending people out on loan as long as they are guaranteed playing time. If they aren't going to get the playing time then what's the point?.

I do have to say though, McEachran would more than likely walk into most of the teams in the bottom half of the Premier League and that's no disrespect to him or to those clubs. He is quality and already has a class about him and his play.

Whoever get's Josh will benefit big time and I believe he would make the same impact that Danny Sturridge did last season!.

Tottenham v Chelsea - Who plays?

Comments

It's a simple question isn't it. The reality is that we need our best side out tonight to win this one. We could say a week or so ago that we knew what our best side was based on current form but it's amazing what one poor performance does!

I asked a couple of questions to you all yesterday about the game. I wondered who would come out on top between Mata and Modric and also if Chelsea will be heading into this one as underdogs? If you haven't taken part in the debate then get involved now. I have been impressed with the general discussion going on between the two sets of supporters (for the most part anyway).

So focusing on Chelsea, who plays tomorrow night? Does Drogba start again after his performance against Wigan or does Fernando Torres finally get a start? Will it be Meireles or Lampard in midfield? Will David Luiz come back into the side and Ivanovic slot in at right back in the place of Jose Bosingwa and will John Terry be fit?

Would love to hear from as many of you fans as possible on this and get the debate going again.

For me, I would start with the following side based on the fact that we need to take the game to Tottenham and cannot afford to sit back and soak up their pressure:

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry (C), Cole, Romeu, Ramires, Meireles, Mata, Torres, Sturridge.

I would drop Lampard and Drogba for this one. Lampard seems to go missing in the majority of big games he plays and up against Scott Parker maybe the same thing would happen. I just think that Meireles' eye for a pass would be better suited for this one.

Torres to come in for Drogba. All this could take is one through ball into his feet off the shoulder of the last defender from a Mata or Meireles and he could make it really count and kick start his season once again.

I know people will state Drogba should start and it's more than likely he will, but we simply cannot afford for him to have a quiet game or an ineffective game. Torres' movement would scare the life out of the Spurs defence.

So there's my team for tomorrow. Do you agree or do you have other ideas?

Post your team for tomorrow below!

Are Chelsea now underdogs for Spurs on Thursday?

Comments

It's a fact that I think will divide opinion amongst Chelsea fans, Spurs fans and even football neutrals right now. Chelsea had a hoodoo over Spurs for years and called their patch "three point lane" but you have to admit we can't call it that anymore can we.

Spurs (no matter what your bias is) have done great under Harry Redknapp considering that some of them didn't want him!. He has slowly put together a great squad of players with experience and youth and has built on it season after season.

This season they have added Scott Parker to their ranks in midfield as the ball winner they had been missing and added class up front in Adebayor. Just look at the two they replaced, Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas. I think we'd all take Parker and Adebayor over those two!

We HAVE TO consider Spurs now as genuine title challengers because of the threat they pose and although it pains me to say it, fair play to them.

As for Chelsea, we are suffering the same problems and the same arguments amongst ourselves as last season. The core of the Chelsea side from the Mourinho era remains in place and maybe, just maybe the time for some of them is drawing to a close, or is it?.

Didier Drogba puts in imperious performances in big games but remains inconsistent. Frank Lampard has a good game one week, then moans about being a sub so is recalled and then plays and hardly features in the game. Michael Essien is ravaged with injury problems, Petr Cech we thought was getting back to his best but then makes a ricket like at Wigan. John Terry is the only one at the moment that HAS TO BE playing every game.

To be fair Chelsea are trying to create a new revolution at the club to take over the mantle from the "old guard". Fernando Torres and David Luiz were brought in last Winter along with Ramires (contender for player of the season so far) back in the summer. Juan Mata, Oriol Romeu (Who is close to being player of our season so far)and Romelu Lukaku were also signed this summer and Danny Sturridge (another contender for player of the season so far) has made an impressive return to the club.

Chelsea have the potential in the younger players, the experience and world class players who need to step up to the plate before we can consider winning the Premier League.

I guess the argument here is who has the stronger squad of the two sides to call upon at the moment? Do Spurs really have the quality in the depth of their squad to replace a Bale, Dawson or Modric compared to Chelsea?. In saying that, do Chelsea fans believe we have the squad depth?

One thing is for sure on paper this makes for a cracker on Thursday night. It always is between us two and I am really looking forward to it as long as Chelsea are up for it and perform exactly how they are capable of doing. We have shown against Valencia, Newcastle and Manchester City in recent weeks we can beat anyone on our day but then are total crap against Wigan!.

Spurs on the other hand are winning far more than they are losing or drawing at the moment compared to Chelsea!.

So I am asking you the football fan reading this to give me a sensible answer to the following question:
Are Chelsea underdogs on Thursday night at White Hart Lane?

MATA v MODRIC : Who will come out on top?

Comments

It's common knowledge that Chelsea offered ridiculous money to try and sign Luka Modric back in the summer and Spurs stood firm and resisted our advances. You have to hold your hands up to them and say fair play to them really. Levy backed his manager, stood by him and look how well they are doing this season so far.

From Chelsea's point of view, we were disappointed of course and needed that creative spark that everyone had been calling for. In my view we got that in Juan Mata so no longer need Modric here at the club.

Juan Mata can be a match winner in his own right when he comes inside. We have seen on numerous occasions this season that he can provide that killer pass and open things up for us when we struggle to break teams down.

The midfield battle will be key in this one with the likes of Scotty Parker and Oriol Romeu looking to win tackles and protect their defences and allow the likes of Juan Mata and Modric to start things off.

So Thursday night will be interesting to see how comes out on top between these two. Modric pulls the strings for Spurs and will be looking to get on the ball and create, as will Mata for Chelsea.

It really could come down to a moment of magic on Thursday night that decides this one amongst all the blood and thunder of a London derby.

I just wonder who will come out on top?

Why spend £20m on Rodwell when we have McEachran?

Comments

Another player that Chelsea fans are confused about at the moment is Josh McEachran. Having asked to go out on loan back in the summer and being told "No" by AVB and that he is in his plans for the season, we are reading reports yet again this morning of a loan deal on the cards in January.

Now I have had my say on McEachran a few times already this season and that it looked to me that if he goes on loan it could be as part of a deal for Gary Cahill. However, once again it seems that Swansea are now also in contention to sign him on loan in this transfer window.

So why isn't he getting game time this season? One argument would be our results that have gone against us. As a result, AVB has had to stem the tide by playing a more or less settled side. Another argument has to be the form of Ramires and Romeu. Both are playing extremely well this season and have to be considered as starters now in every game. This leaves just one position left and with Lampard and Meireles fighting for that place, McEachran has to take a back seat.

So it's with surprise that I am reading reports that Chelsea are being linked with a £20m move in January for Everton's Jack Rodwell?. I have to say Rodwell does look a talent, of that there is no question but why spend more money on him when we have someone of Josh's talent within our ranks already?

I guess Rodwell is a different kind of player to McEachran. He is your box to box midfielder and could be seen as a replacement for Frank Lampard. Josh is your creative midfielder and maybe that's why we are being linked with the move for Rodwell.

However, if he comes here in January, is he going to play? Who's place would he take and would he be happy to come here knowing he wouldn't be playing week in, week out?

It could be just pure speculation of course but to me it seems that the McEachran story has legs and will more than likely happen. It's a shame really as I would have loved to have seen him get some action in the first team this season. For example as a second half substitute against Wigan instead of Mikel.

Let's see what happens in January. What do you people think of Rodwell and if it was you, would you keep Josh here or send him out on loan?

Chelsea told to forget trying to sign this one!.

Comments

It seems that even if AVB tells the board that he wants us to meet the minimum fee release clause in Alvaro Pereira's contract, Porto are determined to hold onto him.

The Porto president, Pinto Da Costa has told Chelsea to simply forget about making any moves for the player as he won't be sold. He said:
"I have offered a guarantee to the coach that no important players will leave the team in January, and that includes Alvaro Pereira.

I think the chance to do a deal for this player has passed, and that is good news for us.

Now is the time that rumours start spreading in the papers, but I am used to that."
(Source)
I have to say that I find it strange that we wanted to make a move for Pereira anyway as we have Ashley Cole and Ryan Bertrand as his backup.

The fact that Porto put these ridiculous stipulations in their players contracts with release clauses that are extortionate should force AVB to look elsewhere than Pereira and for players in different positions where we do need to strengthen.
