HIDDINK - More comments to add to the speculation.

Comments

I think it's safe to say now that Guus Hiddink is Chelsea's number one target as manager of the club. There has been a tremendous amount of speculation about him leaving Turkey and coming to Chelsea as our full time manager which I have posted on here.

However, comments published today have added further fuel to the ever increasing speculation that he is about to return to Chelsea, but once again it could be in the same capacity as last time.

He said:
"I feel energetic, so a club role is more preferable. And that's what I like, working every day. I feel I need to do more, I've trained Australia and PSV at the same time, as well as Russia and Chelsea, and I was very happy. We'll see what happens with Turkey."
(Source)

Could it be that Hiddink is able to combine both jobs once again? Would this be ideal for Chelsea as a club and it's players and us the fans?

For me, we need a manager to be 100% committed to Chelsea and a job share isn't ideal.

What do you think?

Malouda unhappy after deal he is offered by Chelsea.

Comments

Florent Malouda has revealed that the club hasn't changed it's stance with players over 30 years of age. Last season we saw Michael Ballack leave under similar circumstances and it seems that Malouda falls into the same category.

Malouda revealed:
"I have asked to prolong (my stay) several times. I have had two meetings with the chairman. But the club's policy is to sign players beyond the age of 30 one year after another. That is my situation. I would like to have a contract until 2014, with the World Cup an objective in my mind.

I would like it to be clear for everyone. I am aiming to end my career at Chelsea."
(Source)

So what do you people think of the clubs policy? I am all for it myself but I guess you have to look at each player differently and consider their overall "value" to club keeping them here. I think we can all agree that if Malouda was talking after last season, the club would maybe offer him a longer deal based on the fact he was one of our most consistent performers.

However, Malouda hasn't been anywhere near his best often enough this season and with rumours of other big names coming here as possible replacements for the future, he has only been offered a one year deal and I agree with that.

I think we have to remember the way football is these days and with player wages in particular. If a club is to get its financial house in order, what's the point of paying players a fortune on a long term deal well into or towards their mid-thirties?. It makes no sense.

It looks like Malouda is going to have to like it or lump it!

MODRIC REFUSES TO RULE OUT A MOVE.

Comments

Luka Modric has been linked with a move from Tottenham in recent times as featured on here. In the article I wrote previously I express my opinion that Champions League football would be a big miss for the big name stars in North London and it could see some of them leave the club.

Well it seems that the player himself hasn't done his club any favours with some comments he has made about the speculation of a possible move for him this summer.

He said:
Everybody wants to know what will happen with me. I'm trying to stay calm as my national team has a really important match coming. So I will tell you the same as all ways - my club status is the same as it was before.

But of course, if there will be an offer which will be good for Tottenham and for me also, then a transfer is of course possible.

That doesn't mean that I'm bothered with leaving Tottenham - I'm not thinking about that every hour and every minute. I'm happy at White Hart Lane - my status is great, the fans like me and I do have everything I need.

But then again - when you experience playing in Champions League, you want to keep playing in this tournament."
(source)

Now I wonder what the boardrooms in Manchester and Chelsea will do hearing comments like that. They all know it would take a huge amount of money to prize him away from North London but at the age he is and with the Premier League experience he now has, he HAS to be someone we are looking at when we consider rejuvenating the squad this season.

I have read reports this weekend that the wage structure at Spurs isn't great compared to City, United and ourselves and reports of offers doubling his wages have appeared.

We have to sit and wait and see what the club will do and if clubs like United and City come in for Modric, see if Chelsea take an interest in bringing someone like him here.

SORT OUT DROGBA & TORRES!!

Comments

Well, that's the message from Roman Abramovich to whoever the new Chelsea manager will be this summer and next season according to the Mirror. The article states that with no manager or director of football in place at the club, Roman has fielding interest in Didier Drogba but his preference is to keep Didier at Chelsea for next season.

Roman will make it clear to the new man in charge to sort out just how Drogba and Torres can play together in a way that will get the best out of both of them and you would have to say to whoever comes in, it has to be a challenge that most people out there would jump at the chance to take!.

The two of them in their own right are two of the best strikers in the Premier League (before Nando came here) so why can't they play together? Why couldn't Carlo make it work? Is it the formation we play?. Questions that need to be answered as soon as possible by the new man at the helm.

For me, both prefer playing by themselves through the middle but are very different players. Drogba is about strength and power. He isn't afraid to move across the forward line from left to right to get involved in the game.

Torres to get the best out of him, has to play through the middle within the width of the penalty box. We don't want to see him chasing balls out wide or putting crosses in the box for someone else. Through the middle, getting on the end of through balls and crosses is where we need him to play.

Sounds easy doesn't it!? Will our new man in charge be able to work it out for the good of both players and of Chelsea!?

We have to wait and see!

Zenit bid for Alex and it's REJECTED!.

Comments

Ever since David Luiz signed for Chelsea, we know we have probably the strongest foursome of centre halves in the country to choose from week in, week out with the maanger having the luxury of choosing between, JT, Luiz, Ivanovic and Alex.

According to the Daily Mail, Zenit St Petersburg believed that they could take a chance on trying to sign one of those players and it's reporting that the bid was rejected by Chelsea.

The bid came for Alex who the article states has fallen down the pecking order at the club since Luiz's arrival. So Zenit tried their luck with a bid plys ex-Porto Captain Bruno Alves as part of the deal (also a centre half) and this was firmly rejected.

I just wonder if they will come back with a bigger bid?. I think if we see the likes of Alex leave the club then it would be very disappointing for me because we simply cannot afford to make the same mistakes we did last summer in letting too many experienced players go.

However, I do believe Chelsea have learnt their lesson of last season and will keep hold of all our best players, players who will push for regular first team football.

"I just want to play football, not sit on the bench!"

Comments

I think if we are honest looking at the current squad knowing that some players will be leaving, the name of Yuri Zhirkov is one of those people we expect to leave the club after failing to make a consistent impact on the Chelsea first team.

Once again, Zhirkov has spoken back home in Russia of his unhappiness at Chelsea and it does come as no surprise. Zhirkov said:
"I am a player of Chelsea FC and I speak about my possible return to Russia only because of my strong desire to be on the field. Unfortunately, I did not have enough playing practice at Chelsea. I just want to play football, not sit on the bench, that’s why the thoughts about a return occur to me. Now I can’t add anything to this. We’ll see how where it all comes in the end."
(Source)

Now I believe Zhirkov is a good player and maybe should have been given much more of a chance this past season when Malouda's form took a nose dive. However, it's the fact that he has only really had a couple of really good games where he has shown us exactly what he is capable of, that has made the difference from starting games to sitting exactly where he has been, On the bench.

If, as expected, Chelsea look to bring Neymar to the club this summer and with the Brazilian being naturally left sided, it would mean Zhirkov could be one of those players who leave the club.

I have to say, if an offer is made, we should accept it and let the player move on. What do you people think?.

Here's £6m a year to manage Chelsea IF you CAN deliver!.

Comments

According to the News of the World yesterday, Roman Abramovich is willing to pay his new manager a massive £6m a year to come to Chelsea, revamp the squad and at the same time, deliver the League title and/or the Champions League in their first season!.

I think all of us were surprised at the manner of Carlo's sacking even if it was expected by Carlo himself. I have stated already on my blog the reason I believe Carlo went and that was because of our performances in the Champions League considering he was brought here to deliver.

£6m is a massive incentive for someone to come here and to do well but with it comes the pressure to deliver more or less straight away at Chelsea and I just wonder who really could live with the expectations from Roman himself.

Of course we are hearing about Hiddink saying he would listen to offers, there are rumours of Harry Redknapp, Guardiola, Van Gaal, Villas Boas and others. How many of these managers would want to come here and take the job?. How many of them would and could live with the pressure?.

It's a big big salary for a big job here at Chelsea. I have said that we need to trust Roman Abramovich and I still stand by that. However, it's who he trusts as his next appointment that is the news we are all waiting for.

Will he get it right this time? For £6m a season I bloody hope so!

MANCIENNE - First player to jump ship to Hamburg?

Comments

According to Goal, Michael Mancienne is heading to Germany to have a medical tomorrow at Hamburg and will become their first signing from Chelsea as Frank Arnesen looks to bring some of our youngsters with him.

Mancienne is reported to be sold for around £3m and unfortunately is another player who has failed to break through into the Chelsea first team. Mancienne has been loaned out to Wolves for a couple of seasons and has done quite well there but let's be honest, isn't going to push anyone in our current squad for their position.

At the back we have Alex, JT, Ivanovic and David Luiz and in midfield we have Ramires, Essien and Mikel.

I think it would be a good move for Mancienne provided he will play week in week out. For Chelsea, it's obvious that we need a revamp of our squad this summer but Mancienne isn't part of those plans.

Roman moves to sign Neymar even without a manager.

Comments

According to The Sun, Roman Abramovich is getting personally involved in trying to sign the talented Brazilian Neymar. The article states the following:
"Roman is ready to get personally involved to clinch the signing of Neymar. He's aiming to talk with him next month to prove how much he is wanted."

You have to ask yourselves the question "Would Santos let him speak to him anyway?" the answer is Of course they will because money talks in the world of football whether we like to believe it or not.

Are we in a better position this summer to get the deal done? Well, with Ramires, Alex and David Luiz at the club, yes we are. Can Roman get the deal done before the likes of City, Real Madrid and Barcelona come calling? I really hope so.

This report just goes to prove that Roman Abramovich is committed to Chelsea more than ever and is determined to provide the club with the best tools possible to get our title back and make a real charge for the Champions League next season.

Guus WILL listen to Chelsea.

Comments

So after speaking previously this week, Guus Hiddink has revealed slightly more than he has done and remarkably for someone who has said that he would never break a contract, has admitted that if Chelsea got in touch with him about becoming our manager, he would listen. The question remains just how serious will Chelsea's offer be.

The reason I am asking that is because I think if Hiddink does come to Chelsea, we all will want to know exactly how long it would be for. Hiddink is 64 and if reports are to be believed he will be offered a two year deal with the club.

Hiddink said:
“If there was a concrete offer, then I would think about it. There’s nothing concrete. You cannot go into all kind of speculation or rumours because there’s nothing concrete. The moment things are concrete, I’ll go to where I have to be, direct. I have a good relationship with the president. We talk every week about the future of ‘everything’. But, when things aren’t concrete, why should I go into speculation?

First, get this game done next Friday, a difficult game, you know. Then we’ll see, As long as I feel fresh, as long as young people, players, are not getting annoyed with me, and I’m always asking for signals regarding this — people getting sour or bitter or nasty as an attitude — then I will continue.

So far, I feel energetic to go on. Sir Alex Ferguson is a lesson for us. I read that his wife told him to get lost, go, not to sit here in the garden and do the gardening. Get back to work. As long as you have this energy and you’re not repeating yourself, are keeping it fresh and the players and the people you’re dealing with are not turning away, then continue. You should walk away if they do start doing that, but I don’t feel it at this moment.

When you’re working at a club with a lot of joy, then all of a sudden you say it might be good to be a national team manager because there you’ll be more flexible and you’ll have fewer games. But, when you’ve been working a long time with a national team and still have that energy — like, with this team, I’d like to work every day because I’d have more impact on them and their execution of games — then you like to work every day. I like to work every day. So, we’ll wait."
(Source)

I wrote my article the other day stating that for a manager at Chelsea now it's win our bust. Hiddink will have so much pressure on him to succeed and to do it quickly but at the same time he would need to oversee a revamp of our squad too. Do we really think two years is an ideal situation for us and for him?. In two years time it has to happen all over again.

I have no doubt that coming back to Chelsea WILL appeal to Hiddink and to the club as a short term solution maybe to groom a successor to work under him. The only problem I have with it is that maybe we should take the chance to look long term with our next appointment.

Borini's parting shot at Chelsea.

Comments

Fabio Borini is expected to line up for Swansea tomorrow in the play off final against Reading in what is considered as the richest game in the world as whoever wins is promoted into the Premier League. Borini found is chances at Chelsea limited to say the least and as we all know had to go out on loan to find himself regular first team football and we have to hold our hands up and say he has done well.

Ahead of the game Borini has taken aim at Chelsea and fired a parting shot at the club he is expected to leave this summer by saying:
“I have been wasting my career at Chelsea. I don’t need to remind Chelsea what I can do because they already know - I’ve been top scorer for the reserves - and sometimes you need to be honest with yourself. I need to go away from Chelsea to play regular football, even if it’s with a smaller team in a smaller league.

Most of the young players at Chelsea have had to do the same thing. Scott Sinclair, who plays at Swansea now, Jack Cork, Jeffrey Bruma, Patrick van Aanholt and Michael Mancienne all went through the same thing. I would not say we share the same frustration, but we all need the same honesty.

Although I am still young, I have been at Chelsea for four years now and I feel I have wasted the last six months of my career. When you are young, you are not patient about anything, so every game I play now is like an explosion.

All I am concentrating on is the Wembley final - after that, we will see what the future holds for me. If we win, I would be happy to play for Swansea in the Premier League if they want me to come back, and if we lose there is the same chance that I might go elsewhere. It’s like a Champions League final for us - except some of the boys have been telling me this game is worth more than the Champions League final because it’s the richest club match in the world.

I feel quite at home in Swansea - it is not like life in London, but it is a good life which allows me to concentrate on my football. And Brendan Rodgers [once Borini’s reserve-team boss at Chelsea] is a good manager and a great person who knows me very well. He is like an uncle because he helped me a lot when I was at Chelsea.

“It is not just at Chelsea where young players find their opportunities are limited - Manchester United, Inter Milan and even Barcelona don’t have that many young players in their first-team squads. Many of them have to go out on loan to play regular football.

It is still a privilege to train and work every day with world-class players, and the winning mentality you learn at a club like Chelsea will last your whole career.”
(Source)

The problem is, and I have said it time and time again this season, our season looked like falling apart at one stage and when it happened, the likes of Borini, Bruma and the others were never going to get a realistic chance of playing again once everyone was fit as we had to put our strongest side out week in, week out.

Borini is right when it comes to finding opportunities limited and I guess next season will be the same again. It's become a fact of life now for any club in the Premier League chasing honours each season. The pressure of success and expectation are so great now, our youngsters will have to move on.

Let's wish Borini well tomorrow and for the future.

WILKINS: "My time is done with Chelsea"

Comments

Ray Wilkins is featured in The Sun this morning talking of the relationship between him and Chelsea, the club he captained as a teenager and was employed as an assistant twice and has reveal that's it as far as he is concerned with the club.

He said:
"My time is done with Chelsea. When you put in as much money as Mr Abramovich, you are entitled to choose what you want to do. He didn't want me so I am no longer there. Back then I was cheesed off but I am not one of those guys who would keep saying I should be still there. It is part of my life which is done and dusted."
We will never know the reasons for Wilkins leaving the club as no official reason was given by the club. There has been all sorts of speculation about it but as Wilkins says, we need to draw a line under it and move on.

The problem I think we can all agree on was the timing of it. There are quite a few fans out there that believe it was a pivotal moment of our season and once it happened, we had a mountain to climb. Some people do not agree and that's part and parcel of football. You will always have an opinion.

All I will say, and it's what I have already stated on here, Wilkins leaving left a huge gap between Carlo and the players. Wilkins was the link man between the two and by all accounts was heavily involved in training so when he left the club the effect on everyone was massive.

I personally believe that Ray Wilkins was hugely underrated at the club and in football in general as an Assistant and our demise this season surely goes to prove that.

McEACHRAN the target of Europe's elite?

Comments

Chelsea's young player of the year and rising star Josh McEachran is the subject of press speculation this morning. In this article in the Express, it's believed that ex-employee Frank Arnesen is trying to take advantage of the uncertainty at Chelsea at the moment as we continue to look for a new manager, by making his interest in McEachran public.

McEachran signed only a two year deal last summer and with just a year remaining, it looks like the likes of United, Arsenal and Barcelona will all be interested in Josh and Chelsea could have a fight to keep him.

I think I speak for everyone when I say Arnesen needs to piss off and Chelsea need to get young Josh tied up to a new long term deal sooner rather than later.

Fair enough the likes of Bruma, Kakuta and maybe Van Aanholt to follow Arnesen on loan but not Josh. Out of all of them, he IS the one who will start games next season!

It's a choice between Hiddink and Harry!?

Comments

After Carlo was sacked all sorts of names have been mentioned being linked with the club. However, after Jose Mourinho won his battle with Valdano in Madrid, a reported approach for Pellegrini was rejected and Porto stating that their manager will not leave the club it seems that we are now down to just two people, Guus Hiddink and Harry Redknapp.

In my opinion I would be happy with either of them coming to the club. We all know about Guus Hiddink from his time at the club before. The players and fans took to him and he is the one many of the Chelsea fans want to take over.

The problem is, how long would he come here for. There is talk of Hiddink coming back as manager for a year and then moving upstairs and we have to wonder if this IS what we need right now?. What would the players think knowing that he is only there for one year in charge, would they respond to him or would they remain unsettled at the uncertainty of the situation?. What about you the fans, would you be happy to see Hiddink used as a stop gap for another year and then all change again?

When it comes to Harry Redknapp, I have to say, I have been really surprised by the reaction from Spurs fans about him. Looking from the outside in, I think he has done a fantastic job there in turning things around and their first Champions League campaign really has impressed alot of us (if we are honest about it).

However, some Spurs fans aren't happy with Redknapp and would be more than happy to see him leave. One comment I received on my blog from a fan yesterday stated the following:

Most spurs fans I know hate Redknapp, his team selections have been shocking this season, the board has spent £270 million and find themselves where Jol had us, Redknapp is no hero, the players downed tools and refused to work for Ramos, it happens Harry got lucky with the emergence of Bale but he still insists he is a left back, (the boy must be pulling his hair out)..VDV does not know his arse from his elbow under arry, Lennon has fallen out with him, and the leagues most prolific striker was told his mrs was better than him. You are welcome to the clown!..hopefully he might take his ever present love child Crouch with him !
Surprising isn't it considering he has led them to Europe for two seasons running. Last year they did well to finish above City and this year they have still been there or there abouts.

I think it's key these days to be just as good as a man manager as it has become to be tactically aware and both Hiddink and Harry are just that.

The questions remain. Would Hiddink repeat what he did at Chelsea and get the best out of our players next season?. Would Harry Redknapp with a better squad at Chelsea than at Spurs do any better bearing in mind it's now win or bust for the manager at Chelsea.

Arsenal back in for Kalou?

Comments

According to the Metro, Arsenal could revive their interest in Salomon Kalou after reports in the media state that Kalou is waiting to see how our new manager will be before considering his future at the club.

It's no secret that a couple of summers ago, Arsene Wenger contacted Chelsea with a view to speaking to Kalou about a move but his approach was rejected by us.

I just wonder with the current situation at Chelsea, if Arsene Wenger would come back in for Kalou?.

Kalou is not every one's favourite at Chelsea and is really unpredictable. At times he can frustrate the life out of you by not releasing the ball early enough or taking one two many players on and losing the ball. However, it's his willingness to take players on and run at them as well as his eye for a goal this season that could scupper any move from Chelsea.

Kalou started only 16 games this season. He has gone on record to state he wants to play more so I wonder if he would be an important part of our new managers plans or if they decide to let him go?

What do you people think?

NEYMAR - GO GET HIM! (VIDEO)

Comments

As reported on here yesterday, Neymar is one of the names that is being mentioned that Roman Abramovich will do his utmost to sign this summer. A fee of around £40m has been quoted. We know that Roman wants attacking football at the club and let's face it, we could do with a flair player or two!.

I stumbled across this recent video made of Neymar and I have to say, he could quite possibly be worth every single penny!. Take a look.

HIDDINK - Comments reveal he IS considering Chelsea.

Comments

Guus Hiddink is preparing his Turkey side to take on Belgium next Friday and has been speaking about the speculation of a return to Chelsea. Now considering he has said he remains focused on Turkey, there are just one or two small hints that he could be thinking of a return to Chelsea after all. I think we have to forget these reports of Manuel Pellegrini and stick to Hiddink.

When asked of the speculation, Hiddink said:
"I have heard a lot of rumours and speculation, I have told the players they must focus on Belgium and the same goes for me. I am fully focused on getting the team ready for next Friday.

I have in my career very few games. I want to do more with the players on a daily basis but that is impossible because I am national team manager. But I am not going into the speculation as I have to prepare the team and to make sure that no one can blame me afterwards saying I was concentrating on other things.

I am not going into speculation, I am fully concentrated. I demand full commitment from myself so I will not go into speculation. I am being forced by circumstances to go into a tunnel and exclude a little bit the outside world."
(Source)

Now does that really sound like someone who is totally dismissing the reports of Chelsea? We all know he has been working for Roman Abramovich as an advisor for the past couple of years but I really think these comments will add fuel to the fire. I posted earlier about the players Roman Abramovich is looking to sign and bring to the club and you can bet your life that Hiddink would, in his role as an advisor, given input and his opinions about them too.

The key points here for me are: "I want to do more with the players on a daily basis but that's impossible because I am national team manager" and the other one "to make sure no one can blame me afterwards saying I was concentrating on other things".

Ok, you could read that as is and fair enough, but for me these comments from Hiddink really indicate that he IS seriously considering coming back to Stamford Bridge and NOT ruling out the job at all.

What do you people think?

RUMOUR: Chelsea make contact with Manuel Pellegrini's agent?

Comments

News has broken this afternoon through the agent of Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini that Chelsea have made an enquiry as to his clients availability regarding the Managerial position at Chelsea.

Now I have to say I find it very hard to believe this one as we all know that Roman Abramovich wants a manager who can deliver the Champions League to Stamford Bridge.

Pellegrini was sacked at Real Madrid in favour of Jose Mourinho and partly because of his performance as their Manager in the same competition last season.

I would strongly advise you all to ignore this one. To me, it seems that the agent is naming his man with Chelsea to get a better deal out of his current club or maybe a move somewhere else.

I think we all feel the same, we need someone else!

THESE ARE THE PLAYERS ROMAN WANTS!.

Comments

If media reports are to be believed and I do have to state at this stage, it is only speculation, it seems Roman Abramovich has drawn up a list of five players he wants to recruit this summer.

The five players in question are: Neymar (Forward 19), Romelu Lukaku (Striker 18), Kevin de Bruyne (Left Winger 19), Gregory van der Wiel (Right back 23) and a backup goalkeeper (your guess is as good as mine).

It would mean we would possibly see the likes of Nico Anelka, Jose Bosingwa, Paulo Ferreira, Yuri Zhikov and maybe Hilario/Turnbull leave the club.

It certainly brings the average age of the squad down and I think van der Wiel and Neymar would provide competition for places for Ivanovic and Malouda. I still think for Lakaku it's too early and Kevin De Bruyne would be used now and again.

I am just wondering if you would want to see more established younger players being brought into the club rather than youngsters below the age of 20 who for me, wouldn't really provide our squad with real competition to keep them working hard to keep their places?. What about a world class midfielder to come in who has proven ability at the highest level such as Wesley Sneijder?

Another thing to consider here is Danny Sturridge. I for one would love to see him given a chance at the club rather than pay silly money for Sergio Aguero. Sturridge has proven exactly what he can do in the Bolton side so imagine if he played a full season in our side! (no disrespect to Bolton).

So in light of these reports, how do you feel about these four players coming in and are they what we need to be challenging for major honours again next season?

DROGBA - DO YOU THINK HE WILL STAY OR CALL IT A DAY?

Comments

I was reading this article in the Telegraph and it really got me thinking about Didier Drogba and next season. To cut a long story short, opinion here is that Chelsea have been impressed with Drogba's form since January and both sides are open to Didier staying at Chelsea for another season.

Now I was wondering about this. I think it's safe to say that we all will be keeping one eye open to the whole Drogba situation. There are reports of numerous clubs interested if he does leave such as, Real Madrid, Tottenham, Marseille, Galatasary and no doubt Man City so he wouldn't have any trouble finding himself one final payday before his career finishes but I really do wonder if that is what he wants.

It's clear that the established players at Chelsea such as Frank Lampard, John Terry and Petr Cech have wanted the Champions League but we haven't managed to get passed that finish line. Drogba is one of the established "old guard" so to speak and you can imagine having the chance to play in the Champions League again at Chelsea would be his first choice but if he has to settle for a rotation policy at the club you have to wonder if he would be happy doing that when he could be playing week in, week out elsewhere.

It's important for the club to make a decision as soon as possible with our new manager when he comes in. On his game Didier Drogba is the best there is, still at the age of 33. I really hope he gives us another season and we can find a way for him and Torres to play together but it comes down to whether he wants it or not.

What do you people think? Do you think he wants to stay or do you think Drogba will think time to call it a day?

AGUERO: What do you make of him?

Comments

Sergio Aguero has had a change of heart after signing a new deal last season at Atletico Madrid and has announced that he wants to leave the Spanish outfit in search of a new club this season which means we are being linked with a move for the player once again.

He said:
"I said long ago that when I wanted to go, I would say so publicly. And the time has come, So I keep to my word and here I am. I find it hard to leave Atlético. It hurts and saddens me. I've thought long and hard and I am convinced that I must be true to myself. I do not think I put a ceiling on the ability to keep learning, to keep growing. After five intense years, this stage for me personally is over and I have to give way to a new one.

I'm about to turn 23 and I have everything before me. Suffice it to say that this is not an economic issue but strictly a sporting one. So I want to clearly express my appreciation to the club for the efforts they have made for giving me a salary that equates with the largest clubs in the world.

I want to say also that this decision has been maturing for some time, The issue was discussed and agreed with Atlético last year when I was renewing my contract.

I wanted to sign as a way to give back to the club for all the support they have given me. Had I not done so, they might not have received any more for my transfer. I received then a promise that the club would not stand in my way if I wanted to leave this summer.

Therefore, in line with that commitment and my decision, I have asked them to listen to any offers they receive for me from different clubs."
(Source)
So it looks like he will be on his way so I am wondering what you all think of Aguero and whether or not a move for him would be good for Chelsea. Figures are being banded about at the moment of £40m and I guess in the current football market and bearing in mind as he says, he signed the new contract last summer, is he worth paying that much?

The obvious benefit would be so that he is able to link up once more with Fernando Torres having been team mates in Madrid. He is only 23 and although he has outstanding quality already, he still has his best years ahead of him and he is one of Europe's brightest talents.

I think it's important to remember that it's all well and good being a talented striker in Europe but as we all know, to cut it in the Premier League is hard. I guess that's for the club to judge and to decide.

So I am asking you the fans:

Do you think that Chelsea should make their move for Aguero?

Van Aanholt's new deal.

Comments

Just in case you had wondered, I never missed the news of Patrick Van Aanholt signing a new four year contract at the club. For me it's great news and a great sign to the other promising youngsters at the club.

Alot is made of Chelsea's spending and the fact that it prevents our youngsters from progressing into the first team and there are many examples of players in recent seasons who have had to leave the club in order to find first team football on a regular basis.

However, the deal for Van Aanholt just goes to show that Chelsea will look to keep hold of youngster that have that little something extra with the belief that they can make it at Chelsea playing Premier League and Champions League football.

Now Van Aanholt still has a lot to learn but you have to say he has been impressive this season when he has come into the side. I'm sure you all remember Newcastle at home in the League Cup!

Speaking of his new deal, Van Aanholt said:
'I am very pleased that the club want me and are pleased with me enough that they gave me a new deal, It was good to sign for four years. Hopefully I will get a few more games next year but I know I have one of the best left-backs in the world ahead of me in Ashley Cole, so I need to work hard and I will give everything to take over that place in a few years. I am still young and I am still trying to improve.
(Source)
That's exactly what he needs to do and let's be honest he can only learn from the best left back in the world. Congrats to Patrick!.

TRUST IN ROMAN ABRAMOVICH.

Comments

No matter how we felt about Carlo Ancelotti or previous managers one thing remains and that's Roman Abramovich and the fact he is committed to Chelsea. We have to remember where exactly we would be without him at the club and I know there are a fair few Chelsea fans out there that do feel disgruntled at his running of the club and some of his methods.

It's important to put our feelings to one side and take a look at things and put them into perspective. Roman wants to win the Champions League and will do everything he can to provide the club and the Manager with everything they need to do it. If he believes he has done that and the Manager fails to deliver then what more do we expect?.

I stated the other night soon after news of Carlo's sacking broke in the media that forget everything else that is being written as a reason or as an excuse, Carlo was asked to deliver the Champions League and if anything has taken us further away from it.

It's simple fact and nothing against Carlo as a person but his record hasn't been impressive at all considering he took over a squad of players that had just reached the Champions League semi final in the previous season and were literally one minute away from the second final in two seasons.

Speculation about our new manager has reached fever pitch in the last couple of days and will continue. However, the important point to remember here is that we will not hear any "Official" word from the club until they make their move.

It's in Roman Abramovich's best interest still, to provide the club with the best tools to succeed and that includes players and the a manager to take them to the next step. We have to realistic and remember exactly how far he has taken us in a short period of time and with the likes of Manchester City on the horizon and all their monies, he will look to give Chelsea the best possible chance.

So like the rest of you, I sit here waiting to see what happens and who Roman trusts with managing our club. You have to be honest, he hasn't done so bad so far. Mourinho delivered our first trophies in 50 years, FA Cup and League Cups. Avram Grant took Jose's team to the Champions League Final, Scolari (enough said about him), Hiddink took us to FA Cup glory and Carlo Ancelotti brought us our first double in our history..

So he hasn't been a bad judge of a Manager after all (apart from Scolari) and I believe he will be again.

IT'S A SIMPLE AS WIN OR BUST AT CHELSEA!

Comments

Of course you are all reading articles everywhere on the situation we find ourselves in after the announcement yesterday. For the most part, it seems the focus of the media and press this morning is on a key point in the statement released by the club to the press. The point I am referring to is:
This season's performances have fallen short of expectations and the club feels the time is right to make this change ahead of next season's preparations.

If you look at our performance in the League Cup, losing to Newcastle at home then you overlook this one because and I mean no disrespect to the League Cup, the big three are the ones we want as a club season in, season out.

Our FA Cup defeat to Everton on penalties wasn't good considering we were defending our crown after winning the competition for two seasons running.

I have said it this morning and I believe it's a huge part as to why Carlo has left the club, our European performances in the knockout stages for the past two seasons has not been up to our usual standards.

Finally our League performance has been good to get us back to second in the league, but bearing in mind the games we have lost, and the way we have let them slip would only provide our owner with more reason to complain.

I think it's safe to say that we need to win at least one major trophy per season and anything less would be classed as a failure. Does this mean that winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League and making the final stages of Europe's top club competition is acceptable?. Would winning the Premier League and doing nothing in the FA Cup and Champions League be acceptable? Or would winning the Champions League forsaking everything else be acceptable to the owner and the fans?.

The way the club have dealt with managers who have not delivered what has been asked of them has been harsh and in some cases ruthless. I think we can all agree that the timing of yesterday was a shock to all of us but thinking back to how the club dealt with Scolari and Mourinho, we shouldn't be surprised really should we?

The problem we have now as we begin our search for our new manager is that what's required of you is simple. You need to deliver silverware and major silverware at that, still showing a good performance in the other competitions otherwise your out the door.

Being honest, who would want to take on the challenge at the moment here?. With a squad that is getting on a bit, with financial fair play restrictions being implemented soon and with a requirement to literally hit the ground running, you can imagine a fair few managers will think twice before even entertaining the idea.

So that leads us to the opinion of exactly who would be best suited to come to the club, shake things up to freshen up the squad and to put us right back in the frame to be challenging in ALL competitions next season?.

We don't need just a Manager with charisma or who has had some success at their club. We need someone who isn't afraid to make big big decisions and someone who is forward thinking and knows that it takes to change the course of a game tactically.

We need a World Class manager to come here, someone who would command instant respect of the players and the fans. Someone who is a great man manager to get the best out of the players and someone who is thick skinned to deal with the pressures and focus of the media by being the Chelsea manager.

That would lead us to two people. Guus Hiddink with his wealth of experience and knowledge of the game. Of course he has already been a manager of the club and has led us to FA Cup glory a couple of seasons ago after a dark spell at the club with Scolari in charge.

The problem we have is that he is committed to his contract with Turkey until 2012 and has gone on record to state that he intends to see out his contract. Could Roman tempt Guus to jump ship and most importantly of all, would Hiddink at 64 years of age, want to come and put up with the pressure of being Chelsea manager?. If you think back to when he first took over at the club, he was in a win, win situation. Any progress on where we were was a bonus for the club and he didn't have any realistic pressure at all because he was there to "help out". This is a very different situation and I really do wonder if he would want to come here.

The only other person I can really see that is World Class, has been there, seen it and done it is Jose Mourinho. You can imagine when Jose won last seasons Champions League final with Inter Milan, it was a real kick in the teeth for Roman. Jose has won the trophy he wants most and it would be foolish to believe that none of us have imagined "what if" when it comes to Mourinho.

Some people believe he is being lined up to take over at United after Fergie retires but he doesn't look like doing that for a couple of seasons and with having to deal with the best club side in the world in Barcelona, you would imagine Jose realises he has one hell of a job on to win the title for the next few seasons. In his first season Jose Mourinho's

Mourinho has openly admitted that the place he most enjoyed in his career to date was at Chelsea. He loved the players, the club and the supporters and bearing in mind the way he left the club, you have to imagine he feels as though he has unfinished business at the club.

To try and get him would cost Roman Abramovich a fortune in compensation but let's be honest here, he has paid so much already on Ancelotti, Scolari and Grant so what's the difference.

The idea of coming back to the club would surely appeal to Jose and you can bet your life he would negotiate in coming back here in a much stronger position that when he left. Would he ask for control of all footballing matters? It's a question you do have to wonder as I am getting the feeling that this is a main area of concern for the fans. They just want Roman to let go of control and deal with what he does best and leave the football to the manager. Whether or not he would do that is another thing.

The only issue and worry I have with Mourinho and a possible return would be based on his previous. After winning everything there was to win at Porto and Inter Milan he decided his job was done and moved on to a new challenge. If he came back here and won everything would he do the same but would it matter?

It really is simple as Win or Bust for whoever comes into the club. Whoever it is surely HAS TO BE right this time as we cannot see the same thing happen every couple of seasons.

The question remains, how many managers out there would realistically consider coming here dealing with the burden of expectations? Maybe someone "Special" perhaps!.

UTC, Carefree & KTBFFH.

Managers and players come and go, but the club and it's supporters live on!

CHELSEA FANS - WHO DO YOU WANT AS MANAGER?

Comments

As you can imagine the stories of who Chelsea are lining up as a possible replacement at the club will continue to run and run until Chelsea make an official announcement. I am wondering who you the fans want to manage our club.

We have to bear in mind the remit that will come with the job. Success with a major trophy is a must and the new man at the helm will need to be able to deliver.

It's obvious to me that the new man also needs to be a good man manager to be able to get the best out of our side and also needs to be happy to work in the "current" conditions at the club.

So with all the names being banded about from Van Basten, Hiddink, Rijkaard, Mourino, Villas Boas and more, I am asking you all this morning:
Who do you want at Chelsea and explain your reasons why?.

ANCELOTTI - SURELY HE DESERVED BETTER THAN THAT.

Comments

I have woken up this morning still in a state of shock really. Not because I am shocked that Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked, but in the way the club has done it.

I sat here last week watching pictures and reports of Avram Grant's sacking at West Ham and my immediate thought no matter who it is or was on this occasion was that they could have at least let the man travel back with the squad to the club and then do it there and do it properly.

I saw Avram Grant step onto that team bus and after he had been sacked and could only imagine what that journey home must have felt like. We saw Karren Brady speaking to Dave Whelan of Wigan asking him for a room to do the deed and I felt it was wrong, seriously wrong.

Now Chelsea have done the same and no matter how you feel about Carlo Ancelotti the facts are there to see in black and white, he led us to our most successful season last year, he has had to deal with constant, intense speculation since November, he has seen his side falter big style and has managed to lift them and lead them back to second place in the Premier League, has had to deal with his right arm in Ray Wilkins being taken away and asked to work with someone who has no real experience in that role.

The least Chelsea and Ron Gourlay could do was to allow Ancelotti to travel back with the players (who go on holiday officially today) and either sack him when they returned to the club or first thing this morning!.

I am reading all kinds of reports this morning that it was done in a corridor at Goodison Park and whether this is true is another thing, but surely we are above that, surely the man deserves some respect even if we do have to move on.

You have to wonder even if Chelsea had beaten Everton yesterday, whether or not it was going to happen straight after the game and it does leave a bad taste in my mouth I have to be honest.

Just to re-iterate, I thought what they did to Avram Grant was scandalous and showed a complete lack of respect. Not once in my mind did I ever think Chelsea would do the same to Carlo Ancelotti in exactly the same scenario.

That's the disappointing thing even if he did have to go.

HAS FAILURE IN EUROPE SEALED ANCELOTTI'S FATE?

Comments

So tonight Chelsea have confirmed that Carlo Ancelotti has left the club and for many of us it comes as no surprise really. Being honest how many of you reading this expected the same announcement to be made back in December or January?.

For me even though I have converted into being a Carlo Ancelotti fan and stating that I felt as though he deserved another season based on last season, the fact he has picked us up and led us to second place in the league, I like all of you are faced with a reality and have to forget personal feelings and try to understand why it has happened.

It's important to remember here the reason that Carlo Ancelotti was brought to Chelsea. He was brought to the club to win the Champions League and the simple fact remains that if anything, we find ourselves further and further away from doing so.

When Carlo Ancelotti took over the club, Chelsea had reached at least the Quarter Finals of the competition in all of the last few years. It seemed as though our side was ready to take that extra step forward and Ancelotti was the man Roman Abramovich believed could do it.

Last season, in his first attempt, and let's be honest here, Carlo Ancelotti was totally out-witted by Jose Mourinho first of all in the San Siro and then again at Stamford Bridge as we crashed out to the eventual winners Inter Milan but only at the round of 16 stage of the competition after winning our group undefeated easily.

This season again, Chelsea have stumbled in the Champions League and this time Carlo Ancelotti took Chelsea to the next stage of the competition by reaching the quarter finals. Two defeats at home and then away to Man United put pay to any of our hopes in Europe once again this season.

So the simple fact is that Carlo was brought here to do a job and that was to win the Champions League but has failed to do so and if anything has taken us backwards in the competition.

Now some people will argue here that we lost last year to the eventual winners Inter Milan and this year to Manchester United but that doesn't matter. If you want to win this competition, you have to beat the best sides in Europe. Sir Alex Ferguson outwitted Carlo Ancelotti twice just like Mourinho did last year.

Even the most sternest of Ancelotti supporters have to hold their hands up and admit that it's true and I am right in what I am saying here. We have to forget about anything else and focus on what he was brought here to do.

As I say, trying to understand why he has left and putting other feelings to one side we all have to ask ourselves the question:
Has our European failure over the last two seasons sealed Ancelotti's fate?

I personally believe it has played a huge part in Chelsea making the decision they have.

ITS OFFICIAL - CARLO ANCELOTTI LEAVES CHELSEA.

Comments

Well it's happened!. The official statement on the Chelsea website reads:
Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Carlo Ancelotti parted company with the club today (Sunday, 22 May).

The owner and board would like to thank Carlo for his contribution and achievements since taking over as manager in July 2009, which included winning the Double for the first time in the club's history.

However, this season's performances have fallen short of expectations and the club feels the time is right to make this change ahead of next season's preparations.

Carlo will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge, where he will be given the reception and respect his position in our history deserves.

Chelsea's long-term football objectives and ambitions remain unchanged and we will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager.

There will be no further comment until that appointment is made.

Your thoughts ....

Preview : Everton v Chelsea - This one still matters.

Comments

I guess you could forgive both sides for taking it easy today with nothing to play for and to see out the 2010/11 Premier League season. You wouldn't be surprised if this one turns out to be a dull affair with not much happening as much of the interest will be on other games that affect the bottom of the league.

However, David Moyes and Carlo Ancelotti are two managers who want to win every game and every game matters so it will be no surprise if our strongest teams take to the pitch today.

Carlo Ancelotti has already confirmed that Petr Cech and Ashley Cole will start today and will equal a record that Frank Lampard set a few seasons ago by featuring in all 38 league games.

Also confirmed starting the game are John Terry, Frank Lampard and Fernando Torres. We will only know an hour before kick off who else plays?. We saw last week Yossi Benayoun and Josh McEachran get a run out but I am not so sure they will start today.

I believe Carlo will want to end the season on a high so the likes of Florent Malouda, Ramires, Essien and Didier Drogba will also start. It's a perfect chance for Carlo to try the 4-4-2 again with Torres and Drogba up front and it wouldn't surprise me if he did.

I could be totally wrong but I would give it a go. This would mean that Ramires will be asked to play down the right. I would stick David Luiz at right back and play Alex next to JT.

So I would go with Essien next to Lampard, Ramires right and Malouda left with Drogba and Torres up front. This would leave us with plenty of options on the bench to change the game with the likes of Kalou, Mikel and Anelka to choose from.

It's never an easy game there. Carlo hasn't won against Everton in his two seasons as manager and would love to get his first today. Everton at home will want to play for their supporters to give them a good send off and will come out all guns blazing against us.

Whoever plays needs to work hard. Chelsea cannot afford to carry anyone today because if we do it could cost us dearly.

I would love Chelsea to put on the kind of performance we all know they are capable of and for Fernando Torres to score again today.

However, as we all know with what's happened this season, it depends on the Chelsea that turns up and takes to the field.

Come on Chelsea, finish off the season in style please!
