PREVIEW: Chelsea v Tottenham - 3 points means so much for different reasons.

Comments

This evening, Chelsea take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge and as the title of this post says, "3 points means so much for different reasons. Both sides are desperate for all three points and anything else would be a disaster and it's as simple as that.

For Spurs, they still have an eye on finishing fourth above Man City with a game at Eastlands still to play (similar to last season) and a win today would re-affirm the belief that it is possible. For Chelsea, we need three points to put pressure on United. If we win we move to within just three points and will wait and see what happens as United travel to Arsenal tomorrow afternoon. Both sides simply cannot afford to drop any points at all and it could be all or nothing today.

Looking at the game and the coverage of Carlo's press conference, the biggest question is will Chelsea change their formation from the 4-3-3 that has served us so well in recent weeks and seasons or will he change to 4-4-2 with Drogba and Torres up front?. If it was me, I would stick with the 4-3-3 formation and maybe bring in Torres for Kalou and play him through the middle with Drogba starting to the right of him but as the game goes on, playing around him. Let be honest, Drogba drops deep and moves out wide anyway so it seems as though it would be a perfect match.

The good news for Chelsea is that it looks as though everyone is back fit and available for Carlo to select from today. So my team today is:

Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry(C), Cole, Essien, Mikel, Lampard, Drogba, Torres and Malouda.

For Spurs, Harry knows it all or nothing today so it would be very interesting to see how they line up against Chelsea today. We know they have players unavailable especially down their left hand side with Bale and Assou-Ekotto missing. Could this be the key area in the game today?.

I expect Crouch to start up top with Van Der Vaart in behind him. Spurs will look to keep things tight at the back, work hard in midfield and rely on these two to come up with something. The problem is, and I have said this before, if the game is 0-0 all it takes is one lump up top to Crouch to get on the end of and it could make us pay. Chelsea need to be aware of the threat that Spurs pose all over the pitch.

Alot was said last week of the amount of chances West Ham created at the Bridge and it's important that Chelsea defend better today. No disrespect to West Ham, but Tottenham are a better side and could punish us if the same problems defending happen today.

However, Spurs can also on their day be sloppy in defence aswell as being tight so it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can create openings early in the game. If Chelsea do, Spurs will sit deeper, their midfield will be sucked back towards their defence and Crouch and VDV will become isolated.

The thing about the game today is that it's Chelsea v Tottenham. Gone are the days where all of us Chelsea fans thought to ourselves "Three easy points" because we have only won one of the last seven games against Spurs.

This is a London derby, this is all or nothing and will be a battle. Right now both clubs and sets of supporters realise what this game means more than anything right now and no matter how we play, all we want is three points.

For me, there will be a single goal in it. Of course being a Chelsea fan I am going to call it 1-0 Chelsea, but you have to admit, we are the form side, scoring goals again and based on Spurs' results in recent games and the players they have missing, I think it's fair comment.

Let's hope I am right!

“I’m wrong, everybody makes a mistake, let’s carry on”.

Comments

Following on from his interview published in The Guardian that I have posted about in my last post, Florent Malouda turned his attention to the speculation that has been intense about Carlo Ancelotti for the majority of this season. Malouda once again has backed our manager and has revealed that the manager has openly admitted making mistakes. He said:
“It’s unfair, He’s one of the greatest managers. He’s good tactically. He’s brought stability to the club, won the Double at the first attempt. Because we are now out of three competitions and six points behind United, people outside are saying Chelsea should change everything. But all the big clubs have stability.

Look at United. Look at Arsenal. I know Arsenal have won nothing in six years, but the manager is still there. Arsène Wenger’s a good manager. Our club needs stability. Everybody seems to want to put pressure on Ancelotti but he’s really cool. He knows the squad support him. That’s the most important thing for him.

Ancelotti knows I really appreciate him. We talk a lot, sharing experience, and I learn from him. He keeps things simple when we are under pressure: he says focus on the way you train, the way you prepare and everything else are just satellites around this. He’s an honest, fair person.

"A lot of times he’s said in front of the squad: “I’m wrong, everybody makes a mistake, let’s carry on”.

I want Ancelotti to stay. Players come and go but the manager is the key. We can win the Champions League under him one day. We got to the quarter-finals and lost to United, who could win it. We are still in competition for the title. It’s not a bad season. Most managers would like this kind of season.”

I wrote a post this week for the Official Chelsea website stating that it's important to remember just how far we have come this season and in general and Malouda's final comment is spot on. You would imagine Arsenal fans would take second place now if it was offered to them right now. Apart from Sir Alex Ferguson, every other manager would take finishing second place this season without doubt. Chelsea's season had threatened to turn into a nightmare but we have pulled it round.

It's also interesting to hear that Ancelotti has been open and admitted to the players that he has made mistakes. It shows that he has the dressing room behind him, the players believe in what he is trying to do and that is really important.

I have said it before and WILL say it again. I want Carlo Ancelotti to stay at Chelsea.

MALOUDA - “I just want to feel I am important at the club"

Comments

There is no doubt in recent weeks, Florent Malouda's form has got better. He is back playing well and scoring goals and has given an interview featured here in The Telegraph. The overall sense you get from his interview is the fact that he wants to feel important at Chelsea and isn't so sure he is. He said:
“To play at a club like Chelsea you have to be a player who takes responsibilities and risks. I have improved my efficiency and progressed. I just want to feel I am important at the club. Sometimes I don’t feel so when I see in the media that the club are thinking of selling me, and I know I’m doing great.

I’m 30. I want to be the Ryan Giggs of Chelsea! I want to extend my contract by one year until 2014. The club have been saying that because I am over 30, I have to wait until the last year of my contract to speak about an extension. Questions come into my mind. Do the club want me to stay?

I said to them I want to know if there will be a revolution at the club this summer. There’s a lot of rumours. They are saying I am one of the key players, one of the players we want to keep. Afterwards I see rumours in the press that I may be leaving, so I call them up, and say: ‘Where is this coming from?’

They know I want to stay, to be treated as a key player. I want to win trophies, make sure we will still be competitive. As an experienced player, we have to prepare for next season. I am waiting for a signal from the club. The fans tell me, ‘You are doing great, please stay.’ I am giving everything for the club. When I came, it was really difficult. I had to take a position in the fans’ heart. I am now. I received an award as best player last year from the players and staff. They recognised. I am much appreciated by the coach. But I need support from the club as well.

You have to say, Malouda's form has picked up at the right time for him personally but maybe too late for the club. The problem we have seen this season with Malouda (and like most of the others) is that his form has been indifferent compared to last season. He started off on fire, then dipped drastically and has now picked up again and you can imagine the club will look at what's happened with a dim view because as a club we cannot accept that from anyone at the club.

For me, and I know I have said it before on here, Malouda seemed to have "issues" this season and I posted and on here stating that he wasn't enjoying his football, seemed as though he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and the smile on his face had disappeared. He wasn't enjoying his football.

I know alot of Chelsea fans are just as frustrated as me with Malouda this season and understand that the club want to wait till the end of the season to take a look at our "older" players and make decisions on just how important they are to Chelsea whether or not they fit in their plans.

Malouda says he wants to feel more important at the club. You cannot help but feel that he had that, but has lost it during the course of this season but, he is taking the right steps in recent weeks and let's hope it carries on until the end of the season.

"I'm enjoying my time at Fulham"

Comments

Gael Kakuta has spoken of his time so far at Fulham and his intentions between now and the end of the season. He said:
"We want to finish as high as we can and it's my hope to be involved in more games as the season draws to an end.

I'm enjoying my time at Fulham, where I feel I have improved as a player, and would love to play my part in what will be a strong finish to the season.

The league is still very tight and I think it could be an exciting end to the season for a lot of clubs.
(Source)

I must admit, I haven't really kept up to date with Kakuta's time at Fulham with everything going on at Chelsea so can't really comment. A friend of mine (Fulham fan) said he did well last week against Wolves so I have to take that as fact.

The thing is, he is getting involved in Premier League football there, more so than he would at Chelsea so the experience is invaluable for him and for Chelsea.

DROGBA "He stays at this club, which he knows very well."

Comments

After weeks of speculation of Didier Drogba's future, his agent Thierno Seydi has come out and put to bed any doubts that his player will remain at Chelsea, which is great news for all of us. He said:
"A lot was said over a possible departure of Didier Drogba, That is not the order of the day. He stays at this club, which he knows very well."
(Source)

Great news I have to say! What do you think?

Can Torres and Drogba play together? Yes or No?

Comments

It looks like Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba could start up front for Chelsea tomorrow against Spurs as Carlo Ancelotti revealed in his press conference that he has been working on getting the best out of these two together. I am wondering if this is something we should consider now or just leave it until the summer?.

Carlo said:
"They can play together, My philosophy and opinion is when you have very good players you have to try to put them together. If players have skill and ability they are able to play together.

Maybe they have to sacrifice something of their ability and skills but can play together and if can do that better for the team to reach better result. We tried this week to play them together. It's too early to take decision because have another session tomorrow. Will not be a surprise if they start together on Saturday.

Best solution would be 4-4-2 if they played together, We don't have problem playing 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. The result of the game depends on motivation and spirit of players, not the shape of the team."
(Source)
I am surprised after our recent run of wins and scoring goals again that we would want to change from the 4-3-3 that suits us so well. I can understand why we do need to make the Torres/Drogba combination work for next season because on paper you would think they are perfect for each others game.

I am just wondering if now is the right time to try and make it work. So I am asking you reading this:
Can they play together and is now the right time?

"We have to fight until the last minute of this Premier League"

Comments

Carlo Ancelotti in his press conference yesterday was keen to get the message across, Chelsea will not give up on our slim title hopes until it becomes impossible and we need to make sure we win our games. United travel to the Emirates on Sunday in a crunch game with Arsenal but Carlo was keen to stress that we must beat Tottenham on Saturday evening no matter what.

He said:
Obviously we have to beat Man United, we have to beat Tottenham, but our aim is this. Maybe Man United can win the title but we have to fight until the last minute of this Premier League. We have to play our game there but before, obviously, focus on Tottenham game."

It will be important for us and good motivation to play before them to put more pressure on Manchester United and their game on Sunday. It could be good to win and stay closer to them.

I know that Manchester United has experience and tradition and history to manage that pressure but for us it could be good. I remember when losing against Manchester United at the end of the first half [in the league game at Stamford Bridge] the gap was 18 points, To be three [points] behind would be fantastic."

He is right, it's all we can do now as it out of our hands. I think a month ago we would have been confident of Arsenal getting a result against United but their form has dipped in recent weeks.

If we beat Spurs we go three points behind United and puts that little bit of pressure on them to get a result. We must beat Spurs to have any hope and as Carlo says, that's our focus for the time being.

“It’s only rumours that they want to sell Drogba"

Comments

In the second part of Harry Redknapp's interview published in the press on Thursday, Redknapp responds to the rumours that are about Didier Drogba. Redknapp is keen to point out that they are only rumours but does reveal to a point, he is a fantastic player. He said:
“Of course I’m surprised that there’s speculation about him, but it only takes one person to start a story and everybody jumps on it. It’s only rumours that they want to sell Drogba. I saw the other day that they want to keep him. He’s still a fantastic player so I don’t know if they’d want to lose him. Who knows, it’s up to Chelsea what they do, but he’s been a great player for them for sure.

Would I be interested in him? It’s difficult to say. I couldn’t really say that, I’d be leaving myself a bit open. He’s a good player, he’s still a handful for any defence.

He’s a great player, a fantastic centre-forward with power and strength. He scores goals, he does the lot. But he plays for Chelsea so at the moment it’s not fair to speculate. I wouldn’t want Chelsea saying ‘what’s it got to do with him?’ But he’s a good player.”

It was only a short time ago that I posted an article stating that Spurs were looking at Drogba with a bid of £10m this summer however, Drogba was due to hold talks with Chelsea.

I am sure Didier will be at the club next season as Chelsea look to mount a much more serious challenge for the Champions League. I can't see Chelsea letting him leave and sign for a rival club to honest as it wouldn't be a smart move in anyones book!.

“He’s got so much to offer English football"

Comments

Ahead of the big London derby this weekend, Harry Redknapp has spoken of his surprise at the constant speculation about Carlo Ancelotti and his position at Chelsea. He also has taken time out to speak positively about Carlo. He said:
“I don’t know him that well but he looks like a fantastic fella to me. He’s a great manager so it’s a nightmare when you keep seeing all this speculation about him.

He’s come to England and won the double in his first season. What an achievement, and every time you pick up a paper people are saying he’s going to go.

He’s got so much to offer English football and you’d like to see him stay here as long as he wants to stay. Hopefully it’s all speculation but, as a person, you like to see the good lads do well and he’s a great guy.”

I have been in recent weeks of the opinion that Carlo should be given the chance to stay and play an important part in rebuilding our squad. I know there are many people out there that feel as thought the club should get rid of him etc etc.

I wrote my latest blog post on the Official Chelsea Website yesterday (link below) and stated that bearing in mind the problems we have had to face this season, it could have been a whole lot worse. We sit second in the league and it is also important to remember just how far we have come as a club in recent years.

I really do hope Carlo is given time. Do you?

Carlo rejects Jose talk!

Comments

Carlo Ancelotti rejected Jose Mourinho's claims of bias towards Barcelona from Referee's and talk of any sort of conspiracy. When asked about the game the other night that saw a Jose Mourinho side reduced to 10-men against Barcelona once again, Carlo was quick to point out his point of view which was very different to Jose's.

He said:
“I don't think that there is a conspiracy. Football is football. There is no conspiracy. The referee can make mistakes and I want to think that everything is okay, everything is clear, because this is my work. Obviously, there are mistakes in football, referees, players, coaches, but there is no conspiracy.
(Source)
Now if anyone has had similar experience with Barcelona it's us. Look at what happened a few seasons ago. At the time we all felt as Jose did and we have to be honest about that.

I think the overriding feeling from the game and from watching this Barcelona side who in my eyes are the best in the world, is the other side of the coin. I am talking about the diving about the floor, making out they are hurt and the immediate response and demand placed on the referee to take immediate action. UEFA are big on fair play so at some stage they need to take note and do something about it.

As for Mourinho, I am wondering what's you take on what happened and Mourinho's take on things afterwards?. Does Jose have a point (like we felt before) or is he wrong and Carlo right?

'I always end up the season strong at Chelsea,'

Comments

Salomon Kalou is featured in the Official Chelsea Website's "Thursday Interview" this morning and has has spoken of his favourite goals for the club, the situation in his homeland, winning the double and finishing the season strong.

It's two key parts of his interview I want to focus on because I think he makes valid points. He starts by speaking of his fantastic strike against Birmingham a week ago and reveals the target he had set himself but has become frustrated this season.
'The goal last week is the kind of goal I know I have the ability to score, going past the defender and finishing. That kind of goal is intuition and once you pick up the ball, you know you are going to go past the defender and it might work or it might not work, but I believe that if you do the right action then it can work.

It is difficult to have a goal for personal goals when you are not playing every time. It is easier when you are picked for the 11 every week, then you can say I have this target I set for goals. My target at the beginning of the season is that I want to score 20 goals but if you are not playing regularly it is difficult.

What I try to do is score every time I play and after a few games when I didn't start, I started the away game against West Brom and it worked well for me. Now I have started the last three games and I have scored two goals, and hopefully I will have the opportunity to start on Saturday again and then I will try to pass my best total of goals.

Kalou isn't everyone's favourite and has found himself down the pecking order with the arrival of Fernando Torres at the club. As Carlo Ancelotti tried to find a way to play Torres and Drogba together, Kalou and Nicolas Anelka have been the ones to make way so you can understand the frustration he has.

Kalou moves on to speaking of finishing the season strong, the FA Cup final miss and of the remaining goal he has left at Chelsea:
'I always end up the season strong at Chelsea. I think it is because I don't get many injuries, I am always there for training so my fitness is good and that gives me an advantage to end the season stronger. When you get to the end of the season, everyone is tried who has played a lot of games with a couple of injuries. For me who hasn't been playing so much and who hasn't been injured, that has given me the freshness to play.

I am always going to miss chances because I always create chances for myself. As long as you are always in scoring situations you know you are going to score a couple and you know you are going to miss a couple, it is part of the game. I wasn't disappointed because I missed that chance because winning the game was a great moment for the club.

Everyone was looking forward a lot to winning the Double, it hadn't happened to the club before and I am very glad to be part of the history because right now we are not thinking about it, but in 10 years people will be talking about that Double that we did.

The reason I came to Chelsea was to give me the opportunity to win big things. I have won every domestic trophy with Chelsea and the one thing left is the Champions League, and I think I will be able to achieve that with the club.

An open and honest interview from Kalou you have to admit. For me he just needs to gain some consistency in his game in order to establish himself in the first eleven week in, week out. He has the ability to run at defenders and beat them, to create and score plenty of goals but we can see just how frustrating he can be.

He just needs that little bit of extra composure at the right time, to lift his head up and either play that killer ball or take a shot when the keeper doesn't expect it like he did against Birmingham.

One thing is for certain and if you think about it, he is right. He does always finish the season strong for Chelsea. Let's hope it continues this weekend!

Benayoun to start as Ramires struggles?.

Comments

Reports from the training ground featured in The Mirror this morning are stating that Ramires is still struggling with his hamstring injury that has forced him to miss the last few games and Yossi Benayoun is on standby. With the club making a statement about Michael Essien's injury against West Ham, it's still uncertain if he will be fit to face Spurs at the weekend and it could be Benayoun who is handed his first start in seven months.

I have to admit, I am not exactly the biggest fan of Benayoun but I am warming to him as he features more and more for the club. It's obvious the understanding he has with Fernando Torres and let's be honest, as Torres was struggling for his first goal we all were keen to see Benayoun on the pitch linking up with him to create something so Nando' would score.

Of course we want our strongest side out against Spurs as the three points are important to keep putting pressure on United ahead of their trip to The Emirates the day after, and if that means Benayoun gets the nod, then so be it.

Carlo's press conference is today at 1330 live on Chelseafc.com and we will know more then about the squad and who will be involved and who misses the game.

For now, what are your thoughts and opinions on Benayoun starting if what I have said is true?

Romelu Lukaku one step closer to a move to the Bridge?

Comments

Another player being linked with Chelsea AGAIN is Romelu Lukaku the 17 year old Anderlecht whizkid who has been labelled the new "Didier Drogba". We have read stories throughout the course of the season linked us with a move but according to The Sun, Barcelona have withdrawn their interest which paves the way for Chelsea to get their man.

Speaking recently, the player spoke of the speculation and said:
"I'm flattered to be compared to a great striker like Didier but I insist on being my own player. My style is best suited to the English Premier League, so a move to England is more likely than a switch to Spain or anywhere else in Europe."

The fee being touted is around £18m for a 17 year old who has scored 35 goals in 87 games in The BELGIAN LEAGUE!! (No disrespect). I personally think he IS one for the future but not at that price!. If that's the fee being quoted then if I was one of Roman's advisers, I would be keen to suggest that we spend the money on someone older with more experience in a top league and someone with Champions League or International experience over a good few seasons.

What do you people think?

Gregory van der Wiel talks up move from Ajax as Bayern lose interest.

Comments

A whole host of clubs are being linked with Gregory van der Wiel after he featured in last summers World Cup. The 23 year old has been the subject of speculation throughout the course of the season but it appears that one of the clubs that had been believed to have taken a major interest, Bayern Munich, have now decided against making a move to sign the player for a reported £9m.

The player himself has openly spoken of leaving Amsterdam and Ajax look like facing up to the fact that he will be leaving in the summer. The player himself said:

"I've never left Amsterdam and I don't know what life is like elsewhere, It would be a huge challenge but it ought to work out well – I'm sure of that. I want to win trophies, keep progressing and play at the very highest level."
(Source)

He would be a natural replacement for the likes of Jose Bosingwa who is being linked with a move away and Paulo Ferreira. Could it be that Chelsea will make their move in the summer? What do you think?

"The speculation is natural, given what this team has been doing"

Comments

As we all know, the speculation about our manager continues and will continue well into the summer. One of the names mentioned or being linked with Chelsea is the man many people are saying is the natural successor to Jose Mourinho and that's Porto's manager Andre Villas Boas. Preparing for his Europa League tie tonight against Villareal, Boas laughed off suggestions that he will be leaving Porto. He said:
There are incredible stories. Supposedly I said no to Roma because I was going to Liverpool, It's absurd". The speculation is natural, given what this team has been doing. But it is still false information.
(Source)

I think it's safe to say this is just pure speculation and nothing more. He is only being linked because of the Mourinho factor. I still hope Carlo stays!.

"I'd be glad if I could return here so I will wait for Chelsea's answer"

Comments

Jeffrey Bruma fresh from scoring two great goals (see below) this past weekend for Leicester has spoken of his desire to remain at Leicester next season.
I'd be glad if I could return here so I will wait for Chelsea's answer. The manager would like me to stay and I'm very pleased with that. I will go back to Chelsea at the end of the season and they're going to give me feedback on how I've done. If I can go on loan next season then I will see what options I have and what's best for me personally.
(Source)

You have to admit with the addition of David Luiz it looks like Bruma will be loaned out once again next season and I am sure Leicester will want him back there. Similar to Danny Sturridge, Bruma faces a difficult fight to establish himself in the first team squad at the moment.

Defoe confident against Chelsea.

Comments

Jermaine Defoe has revealed a confidence amongst the Spurs camp ahead of our crunch game this weekend. Being quoted across the media today, Defoe has spoken of the belief at Spurs that despite some big games coming up, they can get that fourth place again this season.

He said:
“It’s a massive game. I think they have picked it up from their little dip in form but we always play well against the top teams and I think we are good enough to go there and win. We are all looking forward to it and I’m sure that all the lads are confident that we can do it.”

Every game is like a cup final so we have to just approach every game thinking we can win it.

Last season it was tight but we did it. We just picked up at the right time in the last few games. We have some big games coming up against top sides again this year so let’s just see what happens.”
So Chelsea fans your thoughts on Spurs' confidence ahead of the derby on Saturday?

"I like this club and I'm very happy to be at Chelsea".

Comments

Alex has spoken of the fight for first team places at the club in defence after the arrival of David Luiz and has revealed that he intends to stay and fight for his place and to earn a new contract. Being 28 Alex considers himself one of the experienced players at the club and it's good to hear him speak positively of the situation at Chelsea now. He said:
"Sometimes, it's difficult for the coach to have so many players to choose from, but it's also nice for him to have this problem. He always has the option to have a strong defence and, even though it's difficult for the players who miss out, we all understand the situation. Everyone wants to play every game, but it's no problem.

I like this club and I'm very happy to be at Chelsea. I feel like one of the experienced players now. Soon, I will have been here for four years and I'm 28, so there is still more to come.

I want to stay here for as long as my contract has to run. Then I can complete the 200 appearances... maybe 300 or even 400. But 500? I think that's going to be difficult."

I have to say Alex is immense and we have really missed him at times this season when things were not going well. Ok, Luiz has come in and done well even though at times he makes the odd mistake here and there. The thing with Alex is he is right, at 28 he has experience and has experienced big big games at the club. I just wonder if maybe just maybe, we could see Luiz forced out wide right next season in a fight with Ivanovic?

One thing he is spot on though, Chelsea now have plenty of options at the back and have in my view the strongest defence in the league.

Could Sturridge go back to Bolton next season?

Comments

Agent Sturridge has been fantastic at Bolton scoring seven goals in nine matches including another one in the victory over Arsenal and it comes as no surprise that Owen Coyle would like to speak to Chelsea in the summer about taking him to The Reebok once again. Coyle realises that it could be difficult. He said:
"It's not rocket science to know that we would love to have Daniel here but for that to come to fruition then a number of things need to happen. Obviously Chelsea would need to give their blessing and Daniel would need to want to come back and play the part that he has to this point. That will be for the summer. I thank Chelsea for allowing us to have Daniel and it was always going to be a win-win situation.

How Jack Wilshire developed from being a young boy into a man is testimony to him, and Daniel can do the exact same thing. I've loved working with both of them.

Whatever's going to come will come his way anyway but he has to make sure that he's concentrating on his job and continues his progress because we all know in football that if you don't then the rug gets pulled from under your feet. I've stressed to Daniel on a daily basis that every time he crosses that white line he has to keep showing people that he's the real deal, which he is.

He's been doing it to this point but we've got five big games between now and the end of the season and I want him to continue that development."
(Source)

I just wonder what will happen to Sturridge in the summer?. I think looking at the situation at Chelsea now you would see Sturridge taking the place of Anelka who looks like he could be the one out the door. Drogba's having talks with the club this week about his future, Torres is off the mark now and should now score for fun at the club so unless Chelsea want to spend heavily in the summer on another forward, to me the option is Sturridge who would have gained so much valuable experience.

Then again, if Roman wants to rejuvenate the squad then maybe he will spend again on a forward and we could see Danny off to Bolton on loan for the whole of next season.

Where do you, the Chelsea/Bolton fan reading this stand on Sturridge?

Get stuffed Mourinho!

Comments

According to the La Gazzetta dello Sport Jose Mourinho is keen to make John Terry his number one transfer target this summer and wants him to reunite with Ricardo Carvalho for next season at the heart of the Madrid defence!. It's believed that Mourinho wants JT especially for his leadership qualities that seem to be lacking at the moment in his current squad. The problem is though, Terry is only 30 years old and is tied down to Chelsea until 2014 so the report indicates that Mourinho would struggle to sign him.

I know what most of you are thinking "WTF! Cheeky bastard!" and I am the same. Why on earth would JT want to leave Chelsea when he loves the club, is desperate to get his hands on the Champions League with Chelsea and has spoken to staying here long after his career has finished!.

Why on earth would he want to go to Madrid to join Mourinho who has openly admitted that he wants to come back to this country and manage anyway? Besides, we are yet to see what happens to the "Special one" this summer to see if Carlo leaves, he comes back or if he goes to United as he said his next job would be!

I think he is doing his best to get involved in an uncertain situation at Chelsea and to try and ruffle a few feathers in typical Mourinho style. So if he does make a bid they should rip it up and post it in an envelope back to him with the words "Fuck off!" on there!

You've just got to love David Luiz.

Comments

I can't help but love this guy. I posted the video where he was nodding his head like one of those nodding dogs on shelf at the back of cars earlier, but apart from that, for me it's the way he celebrates at Chelsea too.

Luiz has come to Chelsea not speaking English, half way through the season and has settled right in at the club and has been fantastic. Ok, granted he needs to cut out some (and I mean only some) silly mistakes and tackles that have and could have cost us (Birmingham at home, Fulham away) but he really has been a revelation.

I will tell you something though, he loves his football, is passionate about the game and will be a star if he isn't already.

I can't help it, I really love the way he celebrates his goals and others. For me though, go back at look at Torres' goal, keep your eye on Luiz until the video finishes. Love it!

Chelsea to offer £40m to Tottenham for Bale?

Comments

Another story doing the rounds today is our "reported" interest in Tottenham's Gareth Bale with a fee of around £40m being touted and banded about. First of all I think it's dead in the water from the outset as hasn't he just signed a new contract at Spurs?. Secondly, I think he will look at the progress Spurs are making under Redknapp and would want to be part of that and thirdly, why would Spurs want to sell to Chelsea?.

Flipping this over and looking at reasons for Gareth Bale to leave would be firstly if Spurs do not qualify for the Champions League and need to take £40m if Chelsea do offer it, Secondly, if Harry Redknapp leaves Spurs to take over England (hopefully) and thirdly because he wanted to play Champions League football season in, season out.

I believe, he is the perfect replacement for Florent Malouda when he does leave the club. What do you people think reading this? Do you think it would ever be a possibility that Bale would leave the club or have to leave and would he come to Chelsea?

Chelsea have an eye on Samir Nasri ?

Comments

Over the course of the weekend Chelsea have been linked with Samir Nasri. Nasri has just over a year left on his contract and Chelsea are being touted to make a move for the player if he doesn't sign an extension to his contract in the summer.

First of all Arsenal fans will think "rubbish!" and I have to be honest my initial reaction was the same as I couldn't see Arsenal willing to sell one of their best players but then I thought about the situation a little more and I just wonder what will happen.

Think about it, he is 23 and has the best years ahead of him. He must be frustrated at the lack of success at Arsenal and this season more than any as I really felt as though it was Arsenal's title to lose and have been proved right once again. Just the other day Fergie commented on the difference between Chelsea and Arsenal and could that also have an effect on the player?

Now looking in at Arsenal from the outside, Nasri is crying out to play through the middle or in behind the front man in the Cesc Fabregas role but doesn't get chances to play there. If I was Arsenal I would have cashed in on Fabregas and replaced him with Nasri as I believe he would be far more productive in that role than the Spaniard. Let's also be honest here, do you see Fabregas forcing Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets out of their roles in the side? No!. So you should have taken the money.

I guess alot about Nasri will come down to what happens to Fabregas and where Wenger sees the club moving forward. The rumour is that Arsenal would want at least £35m now for the player but if he doesn't sign a new deal he could be available for half that amount before he is free to talk to other clubs the following January.

For me, Nasri is the ideal player for Chelsea's midfield in our 4-3-3 formation. Has plenty of skill, can score goals and create and likes to get forward. Chelsea are looking for someone to eventually replace Frank Lampard, well it's my view Samir Nasri could be that man.

What do you people think?

Agent Sturridge strikes again!

Comments

Danny Sturridge going out on loan to Bolton has been arguably the most successful January move there has been. Look at Sturridge go!. The lad cannot stop scoring and once again this weekend, struck a blow to Arsenal's title hopes with the first goal in Bolton's 2-1 victory.

Speaking after the game, agent Sturridge said:
"I think I've done the boys at Chelsea a bit of a favour. I'm sure I'll be getting a few texts. At the moment I'm just pleased to help Bolton but to be able to help my actual club too is great.

I think this result makes it a two-horse race. It's between Chelsea and Manchester United now. It's going to be a tense four games but hopefully Chelsea will take the title."
(Source)
Let's hope Sturridge continues his fine form until the end of the season and come back to Chelsea a better player and a better man.

What a fantastic piece of business for Bolton and for Chelsea!

"He is going to be very prolific for us!"

Comments

Frank Lampard spoke after the West Ham game of Fernando Torres and his first goal for Chelsea and believes it will be the start of something special at Chelsea. After coming to Chelsea himself for big money back then, he understands the pressure Torres had been under but has been impressed with Torres' attitude while searching for his first goal.

He said:
"I was a young kid and a midfielder and I came here for a lesser fee, When you’re a world-class striker and you come here for £50m, the spotlight is really on. I had a bit of leeway and a bit of time to settle but Fernando has not been given that. And that’s fair enough.

As a striker, he will be judged on his goals. I’ve gone through patches where I can’t score. Nobody’s made of stone and it affects you. It certainly affects me when I go a few games without a goal.

You start to think about chances and going for goal, rather than doing what’s instinctive. I don’t know if that’s been the case with him. I’ve seen him have a lot of misfortune in games. He’s been given offside and keepers have made brilliant saves. Even here he was almost tackled by a puddle. But he's not opened his mouth and said anything when he's been on the bench. He's come on and given everything. Now you're going to see him fly, whether that's in the remaining games of this season or next.

But it’s great for him and for us as a team that he has managed to put it to bed. He’s got his goal and we can finally stop talking about it. He’s got off the mark. That goal was a trademark one for him, pace and power. I’m sure he’ll look back at it fondly in a couple of years because he is going to be very prolific for us."

The sense of relief first of all then celebration when he scored was amazing. The roof nearly came off the Bridge and I was so pleased to see the reaction of the players. All this rubbish that had been written about certain players not being happy with Torres being at the club was put to bed right in that moment.

I am certain Fernando Torres will now score goals freely and really enjoy his football at Chelsea. You never know, he could play a very important part in the next four games in addition to our future.

We all thought it when he signed and there is no change in my opinion now:
He's a fantastic signing for Chelsea and will take us to the next level!

"The title will be decided in 14 days.”

Comments

Carlo Ancelotti is doing his best to put pressure on Manchester United in the title race with only four games remaining. United have to play Schalke in the Champions League this week, then Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday followed by Schalke again and then Chelsea at Old Trafford. Ancelotti believes and in my opinion quite rightly so, the title will be decide in the next 14 days.

He said:
“If we can beat Tottenham, we can put more pressure on Manchester United in the game against Arsenal. We have two important games. The title will be decided in 14 days.

It will be difficult to win all four, we have to play very tough games, We know that if we don’t win one game, we can lose our ambition and so there is pressure."
(Source)
I think we have to be honest here and say it's a long shot based on the way Arsenal have been playing. A few weeks ago I was confident that Arsenal could beat United and get a result and bearing in mind we have switched back to 4-3-3, we would beat United too.

If you think about it, Fergie has a dilemma. He obviously wants to reach the Champions League final so will look to put his strongest side out in both games against them, but also will know he has to put out an equally strong side against the both of us. Saying that, all he needs is two draws against us so could park the bus in both games.

One thing is for sure as Carlo says, we need to win all four games but it will be difficult. Let's just hope someone out there can do us a favour too!

PREVIEW: Chelsea v West Ham - Three points no matter what!.

Comments

No matter what happens elsewhere, Chelsea need to remain focused on putting in another good performance and getting another important three points. Without Scott Parker, West Ham are a different side that come here and Chelsea's midfield need to take full advantage today. I have to go on record now and say that Scott Parker is a fantastic player for West Ham, deserves his award this week and it was a shame to see him never really get the chances he deserved at Chelsea.

Getting back to the preview, I think we all feel confident because of two reasons. Firstly the fact that the switch back to 4-3-3 suits the players and you can see they feel at ease with it. Secondly, because of the performances we have shown in recent weeks taking 19 points out of a possible 21.

I guess it remains to be seen if Carlo WILL rotate the players for this one. Could we see the likes of Zhirkov, Torres and Anelka step in up front for Malouda, Drogba and Kalou?. What about Benayoun in for maybe Essien? The good thing is that Chelsea have plenty of options to choose from. We just need to make sure that if we do make changes, it doesn't spoil the fluidity of our play.

I am expecting and hoping for plenty of goals this afternoon and apart from stating the obvious I hope that today is the day for a certain Spaniard.

West Ham will pose a threat up front so we have to be aware of that, keep tight and compact at the back and make sure we snuff out any balls up top. Luiz and JT are fantastic at reading the game and stepping in front of forwards to win the ball back and start off another Chelsea counter attack. Chelsea need to continue to move the ball forward quickly and to create and make chances count.

The mood is good in the Chelsea camp, we are playing well, with confidence and are amongst the goals again. Surely it HAS to continue this afternoon!

Chelsea to win by three goals (no disrespect West Ham).
