Chelsea took another three points at Stamford Bridge yesterday by beating a plucky Stoke side 2-0 with goals from Florent Malouda and a Didier Drogba penalty. It wasn't the 6-0 win we had become accustomed to in recent weeks but if we had taken our chances in the first half we could and should have been 4-0 up at half time!.

So this afternoon at the Bridge I will take my seat in the West Stand wondering will we score another 6 or more today?

That's no disrespect to Stoke who in my view are a good team and being honest I believe that Tony Pulis has done a remarkable job with his team ever since he came into the Premier League. For someone the majority of us didn't really know alot about he has done amazingly well in the League apart from the last time his side came to the Bridge and possibly again today.

Neutral fans will read this and think "Same old arogant Chelsea" but the fact of the matter is that we are not. I have gone on record to state that the first 6-0 win of the season was a surprise and we never expected that to happen after our awful preseason and last week the same again.

Alan Curbishley Premiership Words Week 3

Comments

SAM Allardyce has a knack of getting his teams to upset the rhythm of the slick Arsenal play and for this reason our expert pundit Alan Curbishley reckons Blackburn Rovers will hold the Gunners to a 1-1 draw.

It’s just one of his predictions for soccermillionaire.com, the UK’s most exciting football result predictions games. Former West Ham and Charlton boss Curbishley is on hand each week to give you a steer on how he sees the weekend’s results going. You can choose to sit up and listen or have a punt on your own. Either way you can win some big money if you call the results spot on.

“When he was at Bolton, Sam was able to fire up his players and they would get under the skin of Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger,” said Curbishley. “He picked up some good results doing this and I see them earning a draw at Ewood Park this time around.”

Elsewhere, Curbishley sees big boys Chelsea and Manchester United amongst the goals with the Blues earning a 4-0 win over Stoke at Stamford Bridge, and United recording a 3-0 triumph over struggling West Ham at Old Trafford.

Curbishley sees another comfortable win for Tottenham and has elected to go with a 3-0 victory for Harry Redknapp’s side, who face under-pressure Wigan at White Hart Lane.

Wolves earned a good point at Everton last time of asking and they will continue their good form, chalking up a 2-1 home win over new boys Newcastle, says Curbs. He also predicts that Manchester City will keep up their winning ways after the 3-0 home triumph against Liverpool, this time he sees them as 2-1 victors on the road at Sunderland.

Finally, Curbishley reckons Bolton and Birmingham will share a point each with a 0-0 draw at the Reebok, while Villa and Everton will draw 1-1 at Villa Park, he predicts.

Now it’s up to you. Check out Curbishley’s predictions and take a punt. Combine his expert analysis with your own instinct and you could scoop a mind-numbing £10million with soccermillionaire.com.

Chidge and the boys are glad to see six of the best two games running. Carlo might be underplaying it, but the boys on the FanCast are rightly chuffed with Chelsea’s spanking start to the season – and they still haven’t broken sweat yet!!

The FanCast crew discuss Chelsea’s win over Wigan on the show, as well as awarding our awards for the Man of the Match; Chant of the Match; Celery and Guinness moments, with Mikel and Drogba, JT and Brana and Double Double all featuring prominently.

In the unenviable task of finding a song we haven’t already sung before on “We’re out to show the World the Way to sing”, Lester Thorpe (aka “And Lester”) has come to the rescue by suggesting a veritable old Shed End classic from the very old days.

Another bumper edition of Dear Mart follows with questions to the good Dr from both the Chelsea FanCast website and the Facebook group. And last but by no means Chidge reads out the best posts from the website and facebook group in “You’re on CFFC”…

CARLO: "Transfer window closed already for Chelsea!"

Comments

Wembley Stadium Chelsea v Manchester United Community Shield 08/08/2010 Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea) Photo Roger Parker Fotosports International Photo via Newscom

In todays Press Conference held literally minutes ago Carlo Ancelotti has been asked about any further transfer activity from the club before the window closes in a couple of days. Carlo responded by saying:
'The transfer window is closed for us already.'
(Source: chelseafc.com)

So with Carlo saying whats done is done after we have brought in Yossi Benayoun and Ramires and have let CarvalhoBallack, Deco, Belletti, Joe Cole, Stoch and Sinclair. I was wondering how we all feel about our squad now we know we what he have is it until the window re-opens in January. Don't forget we also have Bosingwa coming back from injury later too so he will bolster the numbers and options to Carlo.

So come on Chelsea fans. Are you happy with what we got rid of and brought into the club and do you see our squad being good enough to get to January doing well in all three competitions we would have taken part in before the FA Cup defence starts in later in the month?

GROUP F

CHELSEA
OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE

Its a great draw for Chelsea as we have avoided the possible group of death (That is AC MILAN, REAL MADRID, AJAX AND AUXERRE). Let's hope we can take out current league form into the group stages and make short work of it!.

Wembley awaits!. Will the draw be kind to Chelsea?.

MADRID, (SPAIN) 22/05/2010.- Inter Milan players rise the UEFA Champiosn League trophy after defeat Bayern Munich after their UEFA Champions League Cup match played in Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madid, Spain on 22 May 2010. Inter Milan won 2-0 and become the new champion of the UEFA Champions League.

This afternoon at 5pm GMT the draw for this seasons Champions League will be made in Monaco. Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea side will soon find out who we will face in the group stages beginning Sept 14/15th.

With the Premiership Title and FA Cup in the bag last season Chelsea will want to add the Champions League Trophy and win the competition for the very first time and it's moments like this draw today that can have a major effect on our chances as we will want to avoid the group of death that always makes an appearance.

The Teams will be drawn from the below. Remember at this stage, no club can drawn against another side from the same league so Tottenham will not be drawn against us. The pots are detailed below.

Pot One Inter Milan, Barcelona, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Lyon.

Pot Two Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Valencia, Marseille, Panathinaikos.

Pot Three Tottenham, Rangers, Ajax, Schalke, Basle, Braga, FC Copenhagen, Spartak Moscow.

Pot Four Hapoel Tel Aviv, FC Twente, Rubin Kazan, Auxerre, CFR Cluj, Partizan Belgrade, MSK Zilina, Bursaspor.

Anyone fancy Panathinaikos, FC Copenhagen and MSK Zilina? Of course the nightmare draw for us would be, Real Madrid, Ajax, Ruben Kazan.

We just need to avoid Real Madrid at all costs, but UEFA being UEFA as we all know I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool came out by accident in our group or Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho will be waiting for us!

News of the draw will follow later when it is made!.

The forgotten man Jose Bosingwa.

Comments

Chelsea FC vs Tottenham Hotspur FC Premiership 20/09/09 Photo Nicky Hayes Fotosports International Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa in action.

Jose Bosingwa the forgotten man at Chelsea should be returning to training at Cobham this week which is fantastic news for a player who has faced life on the sidelines since back in October 2009.

Bosingwa has been out with a knee injury and had been working his way back to fitness to play some part in the remainder of last season and the World Cup this past summer. However, Chelsea had announced back in March that Bosingwa required further surgery on his knee and as a result he played no further part in our season or the World Cup.

Yet to really make an impression on Carlo Ancelotti, Bosingwa will be keen to regain fitness and be ready to try and force his way into the side. He faces a hard task with Branislav Ivanovic making a real claim for the start but with Ancelotti favouring attacking full backs once fit Bosingwa could get his chance.

One thing is for sure, when he is fully fit and raring to go, just like Essien, he will be like a brand new signing for us and yet another option for Carlo Ancelotti in his squad as we look to regain our Title, FA Cup and hopefully get our hands on the Champions League!

Mancienne re-joins Wolves. Is it the last of him at Chelsea?

Comments

Wolverhampton Wanderers/Stoke City Premiership 11.04.10 Photo: Tim Parker Fotosports International Michael Mancienne Wolverhampton Wanderers 2009/10 Photo via Newscom

As expected Michael Mancienne has rejoined Wolves today for the rest of the season on loan. It had been reported a formal offer had been made for Manicenne but was deemed to be below the valuation of the player made by Chelsea. Either side refused to budge on the figures they had in mind so the loan deal agreement has been confirmed today on Chelseafc.com.

The statement on the website says:
Michael Mancienne has today rejoined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old defender spent 2009/10 with the Molineux club, making 33 appearances as Mick McCarthy's side achieved Barclays Premier League safety, finishing 15th.

The England Under 21 man also played 10 times for Wolves during 2008/09, when his form in the Championship earned him a call-up to the full England squad. Later that season Mancienne, who can also play in holding midfield, made his Chelsea debut and went on to make six appearances in our colours under Guus Hiddink.

Prior to Wolves, he also played 61 times on loan at QPR between 2006 and 2008.
I am just wondering if this is the last we will ever see of Mancienne. Its obvious he doesn't feature in Carlo's plans and Wolves are definately interested in him. It would come as no surprise if during this loan period a fee can be agreed between the two clubs to make the deal permanent.

Carlo Ancelotti has given an interview to Sky Sport 24 in Italy where has was questioned about a couple of different things.

First to speculation regarding defender Burdisso of Inter Milan. He said:
"There are many players I like, but we have three top defenders. We don't need to take on more defenders like Burdisso."

Also he was questioned about his future whether or not he would like to coach Roma or the Italian National side. He said:
"Italy? My dream is to coach to the best of my abilities, I don't know my future. I hope to continue at Chelsea, it's a great environment and atmosphere. I don't see why I should change when I am well here.

Me on the Roma bench? I cannot answer, I cannot say a day, no-one knows the future."

Finally he was asked about Didier Drogba and what had been Real Madrid's interest in his player. Ancelotti said:
"If you have good players you keep them, He is happy here, why should I get rid of him?"

Great stuff from our Manager!

Chelsea for the second week running have won 6-0 taking maximum points from their two games. Let's also be honest here, for the second week running come half time, no one would have thought we would finish scoring six!.

For me Chelsea started off yesterday possibly showing Wigan too much respect. Chelsea looked as though they were playing well within themselves after what happened at the DW Stadium last season. that possibly because Carlo Ancelotti even spoke of urging caution ahead of the game but despite some long range efforts that proved to be food and drink for Cech in goal, we did not have to worry.

People can and will speak of Wigan and their problems they have at the moment but for the majority of the first half they played really well. They had dominated the possession stakes, had pressurised Chelsea when we were on the ball and we had very little to write home about.

All we all keep reading and hearing about at the moment is the Neymar situation. The "will he, won't he?" saga seems to have rumbled on to a point where we seem to be at a standstill. Santos just this morning are reported to have said to Chelsea that it will take £29m to buy the player. He has people left, right and centre telling him not to come to Chelsea and to stay where he is, so I was just wondering:
Will Carlo stick with what he has at the moment or look to bring someone else in?
I have to say that with the addition of Ramires last week I can't see any need at the moment to bring anyone to the club.

Realistically, what do you guys think? Should Chelsea pay £29m?

Alan Curbishley's Premiership Words Week 2

Alan Curbishley Premiership Words Week 2
by CARL ELDRIDGE

BLACKPOOL caused the biggest upset of the new Premier League season with a thumping 4-0 win at Wigan - but Ian Holloway's men are in for a drubbing of their own when they visit Arsenal.

Expert pundit Alan Curbishley, former manager of Charlton and West Ham, reckons the Gunners will chalk up a 5-0 victory...now you can hit the jackpot, too, with Britain's best football results prediction game, soccermillionaire.com

Curbishley will be on hand each and every week to give his predictions here at soccermillionaire.com and he can't see the Tangerines getting anything at the Emirates.

He said: "They have enjoyed a superb result at Wigan and thoroughly deserved it was too. But going to Arsenal will be an altogether bigger test for them."

Curbs knows the game inside out and is one of the country's most experienced football managers with a vast knowledge of the Beautiful Game and an encyclopedic insight into hundreds of top footballers. So who better to give you a steer to try to scoop big bucks! Check out Curbs' advice and you could be in for loads of wonderful wonga.

Both Premier League title-holders Chelsea and Manchester United enjoyed opening day wins and Curbs sees the big boys tasting success again this time around, with a 2-1 victory for the Blues at Wigan and a 3-1 triumph for Sir Alex Ferguson's men at Fulham.

"Chelsea and Manchester United seem as strong as ever and I can't see them losing this week," added Curbs. "I also see wins for Aston Villa at Newcastle and my old club West Ham beating Bolton 2-1 at Upton Park."

In the mouthwatering clash at Eastlands between Manchester City and Liverpool, Curbs sees Roberto Mancini's side, who earned a 0-0 draw at Tottenham on the first day, winning 2-1 over Roy Hodgson's outfit.

"I think City's players will take time to gel but they still have enough quality just about to nick a win over Liverpool for me," said Curbs.

And Curbs adds that Harry Redknapp's Spurs will earn a point in a 2-2 draw at Stoke City. "Stoke is always a tough place to go but I think Tottenham have enough about them this season to pick up a draw," he said.

So come on, what are you waiting for? We've got you a top manager. Take his advice or follow your own instincts...and good luck!

Eddie Newton takes us back down memory lane!

Comments

There was one article that grabbed my attention over the weekend and that was the DAILY MAIL's article with Eddie Newton. Newton, part of Bobby Di Matteo's backroom team spoke of his time at Chelsea leading up to Saturdays game and revealed what it used to be like as a trainee and how our fortunes changed from the day Glenn Hoddle walked into the club. He said:
"I have washed down every seat of the top tier of the East stand. I joined the club at 13 and we would train in the morning — on gravel in Battersea Park or in the car park behind Stamford Bridge — and do chores in the afternoon. I’ve pulled out the weeds in the away end and painted yellow markers on the old terracing steps. I collected dirty kit and bagged up the clean one. We cleaned boots and dressing rooms — we were fully paid-up skivvies. It’s difficult to recognise the club now from what I wandered into.

So I have had some time to think about and digest what happened yesterday and I still am shocked at the result and performance as I really really never saw that kind of performance coming.

We all know we have had a nightmare pre-season and performance last week against Manchester United. In addition to this we have had the ridiculous international week so our preparation for the West Brom game was literally a couple of days and that was it. So if you had read my pre-match preview on Friday you would of seen that I was on a downer about our preparation and squad depth.

Then we had the news that we had signed Ramires late Friday, so I woke up yesterday with renewed optimism and posted on here a rallying call to the team and our supporters and said:
Anyone fancy 7-0?

Little did I know or expect that it very nearly was!.

Chelsea fans today's the day we've been waiting for. I wrote my match preview yesterday, on a slight downer because of the lack of squad depth but since then Ramires has signed!

So let's get out there today and get behind the lads, forget your United, forget your Liverpool and forget City throwing money at their problems. We are the Champions, We are Double Winners, we've got Essien back, Cech's back, Alex is back and come kick off we're gonna be ready!.

So sing your hearts out for the lads, get behind them and let's show the rest of the league we mean business and WE are the team to beat!

Come on you Chelsea and score, score, score...when you get one you'll get more!..

Anyone fancy 7-0?

OPINION: Should players get bonuses?

Comments

So we have woken up this morning looking forward to the new season and apart from anything else, match day at the Bridge again!. However, THE SUN has a different idea as it claims that the Chelsea players are furious with Roman Abramovich over pay cuts of their bonuses!.

The article says:
"The players are furious and there is a huge row going on behind the scenes. They're champions and are rewarded with a pay cut - it's hardly a great way to motivate them. It was a big shock and they're not happy. Now they're going into the season under a cloud.

They thought it was it was just a normal pre-season meeting. But instead they were told it was all change and most of the bonuses they'd enjoyed had been scrapped or reduced."
I don't beleive this for a second I have to say. Footballers these days earn more money than sense and surely their normal weekly salaries are enough to buy them anything they wanted especially at the end of the month where most can afford to buy an island or something!.

People will argue no matter what job you do you should always have incentives to do well and to be rewarded for your efforts but some will also ask if this should apply to footballers too?.

Let's face it footballers take home their weekly salaries, win & goal bonuses etc so if they are cut I wouldn't believe this would be too much of a problem.

One thing is for sure, I wouldn't believe this one for a second.

So I ask you the reader the question:
Do you think footballers these days should also be paid bonuses on top of their huge salaries?

OFFICIAL: RAMIRES SIGNS FOR CHELSEA

Comments

Quote Chelseafc.com:
Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce we have completed the signing of Brazilian international Ramires from Benfica on a four-year contract.

The midfielder was granted a work permit on Thursday and finalised his medical in London on Friday afternoon.

Ramires was delighted to complete the deal, and while he will not feature in Saturday's game against West Bromwich Albion, will link up with the rest of the squad for training next week.

'Every player in the world would love to play for Chelsea and it's a great opportunity that was given to me, I will give my best to repay this chance, and I am very happy,' he said.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: 'He is a fantastic player, a fantastic midfielder, he is very young and will be the future of the Brazilian national team, and I hope he will be the future of Chelsea.'

Ramires Santos do Nascimento joins us after one season with Benfica, in which he helped them storm to the Liga Sagres title, five points clear of Braga in second place.

During that campaign, the 23-year-old midfielder, born on March 24, 1987, made 26 league appearances, scoring four times including a last-minute winner against Vitoria Guimaraes on his debut.

Rio-born Ramires signed for Benfica from Cruzeiro, on the day he earned his first call-up to the full Brazil squad for the 2009 Confederations Cup, a tournament they easily won, and he went on to help them qualify for the World Cup.

Picked in Dunga's 23-man squad, he appeared in four of their five matches but was suspended for the 2-1 defeat to Holland in the quarter-finals after accumulating two yellow cards. His only start was against Chile in the first knockout round, and so far he has 17 caps, most recently against USA in midweek.

Comfortable in either the centre or the right of midfield, he spent just over two seasons in Belo Horizonte with Cruzeiro, whom he joined from Joinville in 2007, and became a state champion appearing in 61 league matches and scoring 10 times.

Fantastic news for all Chelsea fans. How do you feel about his signing and what do you feel he can bring to our team?

Football - Chelsea Press Conference - Stamford Bridge, London, England - 13/4/09..Chelsea's Ricardo Carvalho Photo via Newscom

Late yesterday ChelseaFC.com confirmed the news that the majority of Chelsea fans had come to expect, Ricardo Carvalho is leaving the club. The start of the club statement on the website said:
"Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho. The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.

Of course this had been the second summer running where his future was up for discussion as 12 months ago he publically stated that he wanted to go. That move never came to fruition and Carvalho forced his way into the starting eleven under Carlo Ancelotti. As the season progressed once more it was Alex who was selected to play next to JT more often than not and Riccy had to settle for a place on the bench.

Chelsea 1-3 Manchester United - Should we be worried at lack of fitness!?

Comments

This afternoon at Wembley, Chelsea lost 3-1 to Manchester United. That result has made it 4 defeats out of our last 4 pre-season games and you have to ask should we be worried?

Ok many of you would say its a nothing game, final preseason game and not to take much notice looking at the new season but it looked apparent today that we are lacking fitness ahead of our first league game in 6 days.

Let's face it, apart from a spirited fight back after the substitutions were made we never looked like troubling Van Der Sar today in goal apart from an Ivanovic header from a corner in the first half. The introduction of Drogba and Danny Sturridge in particular provided Chelsea with fresh legs and we began to control the game and create chances. One of which Kalou finished with a simple tap in to make it 1-2 at the time.

However, United looked sharper to me. They opened our defence wide open for all three goals and you have to say for the first goal we have little argument. Scholes, in plenty of space, played a ball over the top to Rooney who had made the run behind Ashley Cole, who first time played a cross to Valencia who made the opposite run to Rooney and cut inside, as the ball came across Valencia was unmarked and tapped home to make it 1-0 at half time.

United made it two in the second half when once more a ball behind our left back position allowed the cross to come in and once more an unmarked United forward, this time Hernandez tapped home from 8 yards to make it 2-0.

After we made a game of it when the subs were made and Kalou had made it 1-2 with minutes and injury time to spare it looked as though we were on the front foot but United being United got their foot on the ball to slow the game down, and Berbatov made a run this time behind our back four, the ball played into him and lobbed Hilario who for some reason was already on the edge of his box, into the empty net to make it 3-1 and it was game over.

United will celebrate, Chelsea will say it didn't really mean anything although I have to ask, if we had won would you feel that way?, but its plain to see we are lacking fitness and can you see that much of a difference come Saturday against DiMatteo's West Brom/

So I am asking you fellow Chelsea fans are you worried?

DECO: Leaves Chelsea, will not be missed.

Comments

Deco Scores 4th goal Chelsea 2008/09 Chelsea V Portsmouth (4-0) The Barclays Premier League 17/08/08 Photo Robin Parker Fotosports International

Its official and has been confirmed yesterday by the club. Deco has left Chelsea for an undisclosed fee and joins Juliano Belletti at Fluminese on a 2-year deal. Regular readers will know that in my opinion its no big loss to Chelsea.

The official statement on CHELSEAFC.COM said:
"Deco has today (Saturday) signed for Brazilian side Fluminense for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder, 32, agreed terms this evening having been allowed to leave the club for Brazil last week on compassionate grounds, ahead of the clubs agreeding a deal.

We wish Deco and his family well in the future, and thank him for his service to Chelsea. During his two-year stay at Stamford Bridge, Deco provided glimpses of his immense talent - a debut goal from 30 yards rounded off a 4-0 win against Portsmouth in August 2008 as we stormed to the top of the Premier League under Luiz Felipe Scolari, whose knowledge of the player from their time together with the Portugal national team had persuaded him to make him his only summer signing.

A sublime free-kick into the top corner at Wigan a week later suggested Deco would settle very well indeed into English football, but he was limited to just 17 league starts in an injury-ruined campaign with a range of muscular issues. One more piece of magic did come in that first season, a dynamic overhead kick against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium, and it was against the same side that he played his best football in last season's Double-winning campaign.

Sandwiched together during a busy run of games in October, the two games were lit up by Deco's range of passing and crisp finishing, in the first he smashed home from the edge of the area and in the second swept home after a rapid Chelsea counter-attack.

Injuries were an issue though, and while effective in all areas of midfield when he did play, particularly in wins at home to Aston Villa and away to Manchester United, where his ball retention was almost impeccable, all too frequently he was sidelined, and for the second time in as many seasons he sat out the final month of the campaign, missing our historic Double. It was a disappointing end for a truly blessed player, who in total appeared 42 times from the start and 16 as a sub, scoring six times.
I have to say that the clubs statement rings true with all of us. Yes he has had his injuries, but you can count on one hand the amount of good games Deco has had for Chelsea when he has been fit and this was simply not what we all expected after his arrival from Barcelona.

We all knew how good Deco was and had been at Barcelona in the games he played against us and we all expected more of the same at Chelsea. For one reason or another (the club have focused more on his injuries) it never materialised and we are left with memories of a player who promised so much but delivered so little.

So its farewell and goodbye to Deco. I will leave you all with three great memories of Deco from his time at Chelsea as that's all I could find!

The Chelsea Daily Drivel: Carlo Ancelotti's Press Conference.

Comments

The Chelsea Daily Drivel is a daily update of all the stories concerning our club, the rumours, the opinions and more....

So here today is a Carlo Ancelotti special on Saturday 7th August 2010.

Aug. 06, 2010 - 06286037 date 06 08 2010 Copyright imago Color Sports Football Chelsea Press Conference Chelsea Training Ground Press Conference with Chelsea Manager Carlo Ancelotti AT The Chelsea Training Grounds Surrey PUBLICATIONxINxGERxSUIxAUTxHUNxPOLxUSAxONLY Football men tight Premier League 2010 2011 press conference Press call Einzelbidl Vdig 2010 horizontal premiumd.

Carlo Ancelotti sat down for his first proper press conference yesterday ahead of the Community Shield at Wembley and discussed one or two topics there that he is purely the focus.

Firstly he was asked about our aim's for this season. He said:
"Last year we did the best, Every player did the best of their abilities and we want to do the same this year. We are able to do this and we can bring home some more trophies. We will start this season with the aim to win and the aim to be competitive until the end of the season.

If we are able to win the Double again this year it will be fantastic, although obviously we want to do better in the Champions League as well. When you achieve a fantastic result you have a very good memory about the celebrations and how you feel after the victory, we will use these fantastic moments from last season.

When I came to Chelsea I knew the strength of this team and the quality of these players, so I was not surprised to achieve what we wanted. Our aim was to win the Premier League or the Champions League. For us it will be more difficult this year because everyone knows they will be playing the winners from last year. So we have to pay attention because we could have a surprise in every game. We will have to maintain our concentration if we want to achieve the same as last year."
Of course how can any of us forget when we clinched the title, and won the FA Cup sealing our historic double. Let's also not forget our celebrations after!.

Carlo was then asked about the subject that was thrown at us at the beginning of last season, the issue of our 30-something players. He said:
"You have to pay attention to the players over 30. But the names you mention, Lampard, Drogba, they're very professional. Also, physically, they're very good again. But have to check them during the season. Controlling rest is very important, to control the load of the training. I don't think we have more problems because they're a year older. Like me they are more experienced."

Carlo was then asked about the youth players at the club and intergrating them into the First Team squad. He said:
"I think that the philosophy of the club to bring young players through is the right one. I'm fine with this as I believe it is very good motivation and of course I have a lot of experienced players in my squad who can help them through. For me it's good to work with young players because I can teach a lot of things. Everybody has to support the young players. You can take a risk, in important games, but we are equipped to take such a risk."

Carlo then stated that the players do not motivating this season. He said:
"When you achieve fantastic results you have very good emotion about the celebration and how you feel good after victories. In our minds there are the celebrations and lot of fantastic memories from last season. The pressure on the team is the same as last season. We start again with the aim to win something and the aim to be competitive until the final game. If we are able to win again this year it would be fantastic although obviously we want to do better in the Champions League.

I believe I have become a better manager after my first season - I don't think of myself as one year older just as a year more experienced. I had more doubt last year when I started. Now I have more knowledge about the team and club. I am starting this season in a different situation.

He then briefly spoke about two more things. First the upcoming pointless friendly game for England this week against Hungary. Carlo has a different view:
"It's good to play games at this moment. The players had a break. They need to play. It will be good for them, even at Wembley. After three days they can play without problems."

Finally when asked about the rivalry with Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson in particular he said:
"When I joined Chelsea, he said 'Welcome to English football.' Above all, when Chelsea won the Premier League he sent to me congratulations. I was happy to receive it. He has been kind - I hope he sends me another one next May!"

Carlo Ancelotti has done as promised by naming a strong side for our final pre-season friendly of the summer against Hamburg, which debuts our new away kit.

As suggested in yesterday's open training session, Didier Drogba is still not ready to start but is named among the subs, though Frank Lampard comes in from the off, and Branislav Ivanovic continues at centre-back alongside John Terry. Paulo Ferreira is at right-back with Ross Turnbull in goal.

In attack it is the same trio that started against Frankfurt, Salomon Kalou on the right, Nicolas Anelka down the middle, and Florent Malouda on the left. The rest of the travelling squad is named on the bench.

Chelsea will line up in the following 4-3-3 formation:

Ross Turnbull
Paulo Ferreira
Branislav Ivanovic
John Terry (c)
Ashley Cole
Michael Essien
John Mikel Obi
Frank Lampard
Salomon Kalou
Nicolas Anelka
Florent Malouda

Subs: Hilario, Sam Walker, Michael Mancienne, Ricardo Carvalho, Jeffrey Bruma, Patrick van Aanholt, Yury Zhirkov, Nemanja Matic, Yossi Benayoun, Josh McEachran, Gael Kakuta, Scott Sinclair, Didier Drogba, Fabio Borini.

Ancelotti: Benayoun better than Joe Cole.

Comments

I have to say I wasn't too sure about Carlo Ancelotti when he first came to the club, and during the season on more than just one occasion I had my doubts about him as the Chelsea manager as you all know if you are regular readers of my blog.

Since then however, and when he decided to revert back to our tried and trusted 4-3-3 formation after Blackburn away last season I have loved him and the more I watch him, listen to him and had seen his celebtrations with us back in May he is now well and truly in all our hearts.

One thing you have to love about him is his honesty and I am sure Joe Cole won't be loving it right now. Carlo as you could have imagined was to be grilled publically about the decision to allow Joe Cole to leave and bring in Benayoun as his replacement. So what more do you expect from the Chelsea Manager than honesty. Its his honesty that is making some headlines this morning.

We asked about Joe and Yossi, Carlo replied:
"I think Joe is a quicker player, but I think Yossi tactically is better, They are different players. Benayoun is Benayoun, Joe Cole is Joe Cole. People may say Liverpool have the better player but everyone can explain their own opinion. We are happy to have Yossi here.

Joe Cole had a fantastic career at Chelsea but this year is another story. Yossi is very intelligent and tactically he thinks very well - he can play in different positions and will be a good player for us."

Just a few digs there from Carlo. "He is tactically better" for one and Yossi "can play in different positions". Great stuff from Carlo especially as there are reports coming from Anfield that Joe wants to play in the middle!.

Torres: I'm at the best club around.

Comments

Fernando Torres Liverpool 2009/10 Liverpool V SL Benfica (4-1) 08/04/10 UEFA Europa League Quarter Final 2nd Leg Photo Robin Parker Fotosports International Photo via Newscom

Fernando Torres has put an end to all the recent speculation about his future by stating that he is staying at Liverpool. All Liverpool fans will breathe a hugh sigh of relief at hearing the news today.

Torres said:
I really appreciated the fact that Roy came out to see me while I was on holiday. He told me about his plans for the club and what he wanted from me and I appreciated that. I hope he will be the right man to reach the targets of Liverpool Football Club and I am really looking forward to working with him.

This is the best club in the country so the targets and expectations are always high. I am really happy to be back, really happy to stay with all my team-mates. My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed. I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.
So as a Chelsea fan I am surprised he is staying but fair play to him if he wants to remain loyal to the club. As fellow Chelsea fans have stated that we do not need Torres as we have Drogba, Anelka and Kalou anyway but you have to admit it would have been nice to get him.

I wonder if Fernando will find himself in the same situation as Stevie G finds himself in after rejecting Chelsea?. Gerrard looks back now and realises that he could of had the one he and all Liverpool fans want and that's the Premier League title by now!. I wonder in season's to come Torres will feel the same? Let's hope so!
