This afternoon at 5pm all the Premier League clubs had to submit their 25-man squads for the season (or at least up till January's transfer window) and Chelsea have only submitted a 19-man squad.

The new rules state that each club has to include a minimum of eight "home grown" players who have trained for three years with any English or Welsh club before the age of 21 if the full 25 player quota is used. Added to that there is an unlimited number of players under the age of 21. This is where Ancelotti will look to blood more of the youngsters into first team action this season.

Our four "home-grown" players include, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Ross Turnbull.

The squad list submitted is as follows:

Ashley Cole, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ross Turnbull, Petr Cech, Branislav Ivanovic, Michael Essien, Ramires, Yossi Benayoun, Didier Drogba, John Mikel Obi, Florent Malouda, Jose Bosingwa, Yury Zhirkov, Paulo Ferreira, Salomon Kalou, Alex, Henrique Hilario, Nicolas Anelka.

In addition our under 21st listed on the official website that are also included are:

Daniel Sturridge, Patrick van Aanholt, Jeffrey Bruma, Gael Kakuta, Fabio Borini, Josh McEachran

So what do you all make of our squad? Have we left ourselves short when it comes to the busier period of the season?, Will we see the likes of Bruma, Sturridge, Kakuta involved in the cup competitions allowing the first teamers to rest for key games in the season?.

One thing is for certain, Chelsea have a method to their madness and I back our squad to fight on all front's this season!

KTBFFH!

  1. Personally, I don't think this is a bad move. We still have 25 quality players to choose from which should take us through till Jan even if we get a major injury crisis. There is no African Cup of Nations this season either. The clubs with huge squads will find it near impossible to give a sniff of even a Worthless Cup game to many players engendering disquiet amongst some of the more senior players. My only gripe is that we have not taken an opportunity to bring through the likes of Scott Sinclair and Mancienne into regular first team places.

  2. It looks light at a glance but if we do what you said and actually rest players for cup games we'll be fine, am I wrong in thinking we have space for 1 more senior foreign player?

Looked at Man Utds squad and the amount of homegrown players is loads, one day we'll get like that! I think we'll be fine for the cups as long as we have strong starts in the CL we can kind of "relax" in the latter stages if we win 1st leg ties and stuff

  3. hope you lot get the piss fined out of you for this. In the words of Didier Dropba, what a disgrace...

  4. Why would we be fined? No rules have been broken. I suggest you go back and read the squad rules. I've seen similar comments have been made on other blogs/websites/press releases. Just another bitter member of the anti Chelsea brigade spouting rubbish.
Anyway as for the shape of the squad. I'm quite happy that Carlo appears to be showing some faith in the youngsters. Any serious injuries could leave us a little short, but what an opportunity that would bring for the kids to shine. Only time will tell.

  5. I am so disturbed that VDV is a tot now! But tot doesn't fear me because their excitement in being in CL will cost them everything!

  6. If there are no consequences for not following the rules, why do they exist? I am a proud member of the "anti-Chelsea brigade" as is anyone who enjoys sports. Your team is full of the biggest and most expensive pricks in the EPL. Your little club used to just be followed by right-wing racists. Now they have the glory hunters to keep them company.

  7. @Anon above
You have just confirmed to me anyway that you like a lot of rival supporters are living in the past with your views and out-dated opinions about Chelsea and the fans.

That's all I need to say....

  8. You lot will be living in the past, only three years mind you. Once your king Roman looses interest in his little play thing. You cant buy history Chelsea, but you can buy three league titles.

  9. @Anon

Once again, outdated and boring now all this you bought your titles!

Tell me then, who did we buy last season to buy the league title and FA Cup double? Also think carefully and answer me who we bought the season before?

I think you need to get your facts straight before making these statements.

Then again, you won't have the front to answer me anyway.. so in case you missed it, tell me how we bought the league and fa cup last season when we only bought Zhirkov who hardly played, Sturridge who hardly played and Turnbull who didnt play!!!!!!

    Answer me that!

  10. Are you serious? You cant be serious. Well, despite the fact that you wanked out 17m for a Russian for King Roman's army, you DID in fact field players that were BAUGHT IN PREVIOUS SEASONS for exorbitant amounts of money, and who are paid exorbitant amounts of money.

If you have been supporting Chelsea since pre-Roman times, i feel bad for you, it must make you sick to see what your club has become, a bunch of overpaid prema donnas. Your captain impregnates a team-mate and friend's girlfriend. Ballack does the same. Anelka singlehandedly destroys Frances World Cub. Ashley Cole is well, Ashley Cole. Drogba is in indescribable prick. Only class player you have on your team is Essien and he is looking more and more like a perma-crock. I cannot wait to witness the downfall of Combat 18 FC aka, Chelski.

  11. Furthermore, your team shouldn't even be allowed to sign players after the Kakuta incident.

  12. @Anon
So who do you follow my friend, who's your team?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Furthermore I am grateful for your comments and time spent on my "Chelsea" blog rather than one of your own!

  14. Lets just say I follow a bigger team than Chelsea, a team with more trophies. So that is any of the following:

    Aston Villa
    Everton
    Sunderland
    Sheffield Wednesday
    Blackburn
    Newcastle
    Arsenal
    Liverpool
    Man Utd

  15. This Anon guy above commenting sounds like a rite Plonka! I recon hes gotta be a Liverpool fan...

  16. I think he has serious issues. I appreciate a bit of banter but he/she's obviously just attacking Chelsea with nothing more than bitterness due to the fact his club are probably a spent force who believe they have a right to be considered the biggest and best club all the time. It's all rather boring really and I've read many threads on different blogs that just descend into the same 'your clubs this', 'you bought success', 'you have no history' blah blah blah. Attack Chelsea about a certain lack of history if you want, Go on about us buying success if you want. God even bring up Combat 18 if you like. If it makes you feel big and hard then go ahead. It won't change the fact that Chelsea are currently proud holders of The premier League title and The FA Cup. Oh and before you mention it I'm not a plasic fan. I've been going to Stamford Bridge since the late 80s. I choose to live in the now not in the past. Jealousy is a tough thing to deal with don't you think.

Great blog Chelseadaft. Keep up the good work.

  17. Definitely a bitter Scouser, one who can't even get his facts straight too.

  18. Chelseadaft,
Don't worry about this retard, he lives in the past! But yes you are right because we are Chelsea fans and we do not waste our time in non-Chelsea stuffs whatsoever!
