Another disappointing performance from Chelsea this afternoon as Carlo Ancelotti's side continued their pre season build up to the start of the new season. Frank Lampard got on the scoresheet but two Chelsea errors cost us once more.
The big guns were back for Chelsea as they took to the pitch for todays game. Hilario in goal, Ferreria, Cole, Terry, Bruma, Mikel, Essien, Malouda, Kalou, Anelka and Benayoun.
The first half Chelsea didn't really get going and some promising moves lacked the final ball as we struggled to create anything. In fact, it was Frankfurt who created the better chances and Hilario was called into action more times than we would have liked being honest.
Hilario was at fault for Frankfurt's first goal. A mix-up between JT and himself lead to the goal. The ball was overhit through the middle of our defence and with Hilario out to the edge of his box, the ball looked like it didn't have enough on it to reach him. So, 10 yards from the edge of the box, JT passed it back to him and he was instantly under pressure from their attacker. Hilario took a touch wide to get passed the challenge and mis-hit his clearance straight to one of Frankfurts players. He slid the ball back across to the man in the middle who had challenged Hilario and he knocked the ball into the empty net. Yet another Goalkeeping disaster for Chelsea.
Second half the changes were made. Hilario stayed in goal. Back four was Mancienne, Carvalho, Ivanovic, Van Aanholt. Midfield, Matic, Lampard, Malouda and Essien with Borini and Kalou.
Chelsea started the brighter and began to impose themselves on the game. Van Aanholt was getting forward and causing a threat for Chelsea. More changes were made into the second half, McEchran and Sinclair came on for Kalou and Malouda and almost instantly Chelsea got their goal their second half performance warranted.
Van Aanholt broke down the left and cut inside and slipped the ball inside to the onrushing Lampard. The ball was deflected onto Lampard's chest and he chested the ball down and was through on goal. The keeper came out and bottled the challenge as Lampard pulled his foot away thinking the keeper would whack the ball away, as a result the ball bounced through the keeper and Lampard had an easy tap into an empty net. 1-1.
The game looked there for the taking and another Chelsea error cost us once more. A free kick given away down our right hand side was taken and floated to the back post and Matic was judged to have pulled the shirt of the attacker at the back post and the penalty was given.
Altintop scored straight down the middle to make it 2-1 to our hosts. There was another keeper mix-up that nearly cost us another goal as a backpass to Hilario was played short and Hilario's clearance was blocked and it was only a block by Carvalho that kept the score down.
A late shot over the bar by the impressive Van Aanholt was the best Chelsea could come up with in the closing stages as our disappointing pre-season continues.
We now move on to Hamburg on Wednesday where Carlo will be looking for alot more from the returning first teamers as we prepare for United a week today.
