Other Rumours this Morning

Comments

More rumours on Chelsea this morning from Tribal Football. Chelsea are looking at David Trezeguet this summer after he had a row with Claudio Ranieri at Juventus earlier in the season and would be available for 7m.

He is a good finisher in my opinion, again where would he play and would he improve our forward line instead of Drogba and Anelka? Would he be on Guus' list for Roman ? What do you think?

Also reported is that Barcelona are looking at
Petr Cech and if Chelsea do not win anything this season then Roman may be willing to accept.

I don't believe this one for a second. If you want the Title back you keep your best players. Cech is one of the best Goalkeepers in the world right now so why would you sell him? Who would you bring in? There is only one person i would recommend and that would be Iker Cassilas from Madrid. What do you think?

Jose - United (Really?)

Comments

In the British Press this morning it has been reported that Jose has admitted it would be hard to turn down Man Utd if they come knocking at his door once Fergie retires.

How do you feel about that?.

I couldn't stand that to be honest and i am sure alot of my fellow blue boys feel the same way. Its all well and good going up against him in pre season tournament in the USA but to be up against him twice in the league and against him to win the title is too much for my liking!

Roman its time to get that cheque book out again and get him back to the bridge before he ends up there!

Whats your favourite game you have been to watch Chelsea

Comments

What is the best Chelsea Match you have ever been to? (A mention for the next best wouldn't go a miss either) Simple, i wanna get all you people commenting asap!

Mine has to be ( and its very close between the two ) the home game V Charlton at the end of the 2004/2005 season where Claude Makelele scored his first goal for Chelsea in the game where we lifted the League Title for the first time in 50 years. To wait that long to get our hands on the trophy and to be there when we did was just amazing. The whole day from start to finish! I will remember it forever!

Secondly i have to say April 30th 2008 Chelsea V Liverpool Champions League 2nd leg was the best footballing night of my life so far. To finally beat Liverpool and the celebrations afterwards was another amazing occasion for me. Especially added to that Frank Lampard stepping up and scoring the penalty after what had just happened to his Mum, with all that pressure of what the penalty meant was incredible.

So whats yours?

Malouda

Comments

Over the weekend it has been reported in the Press both here and in France that Florent Malouda has expressed his desire to stay at Chelsea and has "Rubbished" reports that he is looking to move away from Stamford Bridge.

Well in my opinion he hasn't really offered us anything at all since he has been at Chelsea. To me he doesn't get to the byline enough. Doesn't try and beat his man at all. More often than not he looks to play the ball back to Ashley Cole or anyone that is coming square for an easy option.

Do you all remember when England played France in the most recent game.

He played just off Nicolas Anelka up front and was outstanding and caused us all kinds of problems whereas we have never seen anything like the same in a Chelsea shirt.

I for one, will be expecting him to step up when needed and play for the shirt for the rest of the season because right now i can't see it as a "Loss" for Chelsea if he leaves.

More on Guus - British Press

Comments

More on Hiddink this morning in the British Press. Various Newspapers are reporting that he has been offered to continue at Chelsea but in a "consultant" role and some have reported he will carry on his "dual-role" with Chelsea and the Russia National team. For one link to these stories click here .

For me this story is going to rumble on and on till the end of the season. I have said it before but let's focus on a great finish to the season first and then decide what happens after that. I think because of the unusual situation with the length of Guus' contract the speculation is always going to be there or thereabouts. But lets focus on whats happening now eh!

Loss for the blues in a closed doors friendly

Comments

Quote from ChelseaFC.com

"The Chelsea players not on international duty were given some competitive action against a West Ham side at Cobham on Friday.

Despite the absence of most of the first team squad, there was still a number of experienced players involved, notably Florent Malouda, Alex, Ricardo Quaresma and Hilario.

The game ended in a 4-2 victory for the visitors, but was not without its highlights for the Blues, coached by Paul Clement and Ray Wilkins.

Also of note to Chelsea fans will be the presence of Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke at Cobham, who were keeping a close eye on their number, which included Kieron Dyer, Luis Boa Morte, Freddie Sears, Savio and former Fulham goalkeeper Jan Lastuvka."

Cudicini "Surprised" by sluggish Blues.

Comments

Reported on MSN (Football 365) this morning, Carlo Cudicini has said he was "surprised" by Chelsea's performance against Spurs last Saturday. He said he thought we were "sluggish" and looked "tired" until the last 20 minutes of the game when we put them under pressure.

You can read more on this story here.

He also had a slight dig about his Chelsea exit, revealing it wasn't his decision.

This is intriguing as i wonder who's decision it was. Its obvious that Carlo didnt really have leaving in his mind and someone made that decision for him which is a shame. He was a great servant to Chelsea and will always be a fan favourite. In a way i was glad he was only on the bench against us as i couldn't handle him playing against us.

What do you think about his comments?

Rumours in the British Press this Morning

Comments

According to the BBC Football website here.

Barcelona have warned Chelsea and Manchester City that Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is not for sale at any price. (The Sun) "

This would be massive for Chelsea as in my opinion he should be World Player of the Year rather than that bloke who plays for Man Utd. But, i can't see Barcelona letting him go. He has a massive buy out clause in his contract and this would put anyone off wanting to buy him. But, if we did it was be huge!. I can's see him going to Man City as if Kaka turns them down for football reasons i can't see Messi doing the opposite. What do you think?

Also reported this morning:

Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has insisted he "does not want to go anywhere at this point" despite him being linked with Chelsea. (Daily Express)

Again as per my post yesterday about the Rumours, i think this is just speculation and nothing concrete as i can't see how he is a better player in the Prem than Drogba and Anelka. But, what do you think?

Also reported:

The Premier League's biggest clubs unveiled early designs for new kits for next season to negative reactions from supporters. Manchester United's shirt was described as "vulgar" and a "disgrace", Chelsea fans said their club's new kit would make them look like "muppets" and an Arsenal fan said his side's new shirt would be "one of the most unpopular ever". (Daily Star)

Frank hails Fabio

Comments

Frank Lampard has hailed Fabio Capello for solving the "problem" of fitting him and Gerrard into the England midfield. "I am playing a different role. It is much more of a holding position, while Steven has been asked to play more on the left, but to be fair it's worked."

You can read the full article here.

I still think (cause we are biased aren't we) that Lampard offers more to the midfield role than Gerrard ever does. Dont get me wrong the other bloke seems to come up trumps just when they need him but for me Lampard does a much more important all-round job for Chelsea. He tracks back and defends. He works hard break down the oppositions possession and attacks and then lets his World Class show when he has the ball at his feet.

What do you think?

Rumours in the British Press this Morning

Comments

On BBC's Football website this morning there has been a number of Rumours reported within the British Press. They are as follows quoting from their website:

"Manchester City are setting their sights high, with Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery, Barcelona striker Thierry Henry, Chelsea skipper John Terry and Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz all transfer targets. (The Times)"

I think we all know that JT is going nowhere. They can offer us as much money as they want but its never gonna happen!

"
Real Madrid's Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart says he would like to join Chelsea, if his compatriot Guus Hiddink stays on as manager. (The Sun)"

I'm not sure about this one, he has only recently joined Real Madrid hasn't he? Don't get me wrong he is a good player but to have itchy feet after being their a year isn't a good sign.

"
Hiddink, meanwhile, has urged Chelsea to bid for Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko. (Various)"

Again, I'm not sure about this one. If Hiddink does end up staying then i am sure he will get the best out of him. But, if (as reported earlier on my blog) Drogba stays where will he play? Will Guus adopt a 4-4-2 and if he does i would still play Didier and Nico together up front.

"
Everton defender Joseph Yobo will be offered a new £6m contract in the hope of fending off interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. (Daily Mirror)"

I can't see this ever happening. My opinion is that the he is not going to improve our already World Class pairing of Riccy and JT. Added to that Alex and Ivanovic with Michael Mancienne waiting in the wings!

"Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has vowed to stay as manager of Inter Milan for the next four or five years, quashing speculation he wants to return to the Premier League. (The Telegraph)"

Gutted at this one (if its true) i have to say. Let's hope its a smokescreen for his return to the Bridge!

"
Chelsea and Russia boss Guus Hiddink showed that managing two sides simultaneously can be confusing when he referred to Arsenal's Andrey Arshavin as a Chelsea player. Hiddink only has the midfielder under his charge with the international team. (The Sun) "

LOL is all i can say on this one!

International Break

Comments

Hi all,

I don't know about you but i've got to thinking about the International Break and whether or not it has come at a good or a bad time for us. What do you think?. Apart from the game against Spurs last week (where in my report stated on any other day we would of taken our chances) we have been playing well and have been looking strong.

From a Chelsea point of view i feel it has come at a bad time. We were in a rythym with this 10 day break i can see it spoiling that rythymn especially with just a couple of days to prepare before the long trip up to Newcastle. The plus side (if there is one) is that Nico Anelka is injured and will more than likely only miss Newcastle and the CL 1st leg against Liverpool. Whereas, he would of missed a good few games if this during the Sat-Weds-Sat pile up that normally happens at this time of the season.

With 15 months of his contract still to run, this summer could see the race for his signature hotting up on the continent. But, instead will he stage a dramatic u-turn? Drogba Staying?

Comments

It is reported this morning in various sports pages that Didier Drogba will have a complete change of heart and commit his future to Chelsea in the Summer. This is great news for us Chelsea fans. But, great news when he is up for a game. When he isn't he is a liability (Man Utd away for example).

Don't get me wrong, his is a world class centre forward and can scare anyone centre half in world football, but thats when he is on his game.

If he commits his future to Chelsea and commits to being up for playing as he can for the Blue Boys, then this is great news for the club and the fans.

Carlo Ancelotti's has already hinted this season that his time at Milan could be coming to an end in the summer and of course this has added fuel to the fire.

Hiddink to draw up summer targets

Comments

According to the Rumour Pages on BBC Football's Website here Roman Abramovich has asked Guus Hiddink to draw up a list of summer transfer targets upto 100 million.

Now this is very interesting, Hiddink is still maintaining and has always maintaned he will return to Russia after his agreement with Roman comes to an end. So if thats the case why on earth ask a Manager who will not be around to have some imput into potential targets.

I think its plain to see, Guus will be involved in "some" capacity at Chelsea after the summer.

Report - Away V Spurs

Comments

Spurs 1-0 Chelsea

Well i have to say i got this one wrong along with every other Chelsea fan i know. I managed to get hold of a decent picture on streaming on the web to see the second half just after they had scored. The commentators have said that they were up for it and we weren't. Once they scored we had plenty of possession and plenty of chances (including Alex hitting the crossbar with a minute left in injury time) but we couldn't put them away.

Gomes made a stunning save from John Terry on the goal-line and managed to drag it wide past the post and i guess after that save i knew it wasn't going to be our day!

Todays result makes it even worse as Utd slipped up BIGTIME at Fulham and we should of gained three points on them.

But being honest, we deserved a draw, but you have to put your chances away, Spurs did that and had their luck we didnt and that was the difference between the sides today.

Let's hope this gives us another kick up the bum for the remaining games of the season!

Matchday - Away V Spurs

Comments

Matchday V Spurs

The two teams for today have been confirmed on BBC Football:

Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, King, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Jenas, Palacios, Modric, Bent, Keane.

Subs: Cudicini, Zokora, Bentley, Huddlestone, Pavlyuchenko, Dawson, O'Hara.

Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Alex, Terry, Ashley Cole, Essien, Ballack, Lampard, Belletti, Drogba, Anelka.
Subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Di Santo, Malouda, Quaresma, Kalou, Mancienne.

I can only see a Chelsea win on this one today. In my earlier post i talked about the midfield and strength we have. One change, Alex comes in for Carvalho but still we look solid. Spurs once more change their back four which can't be good.

2-0 is my prediction. Come on Chelsea !

Preview - Away v Spurs

Comments

Preview v Spurs

This Saturday See's the Blues travel to White Hart Lane for our 1500GMT kick off with Spurs.
Both teams go into the game with two completely different motivations. We are pushing for the win to keep the pressure up on Man Utd and also Liverpool whilst Spurs are still looking over their shoulders at the teams fighting relegation and want the points to ensure relative safety next season.

We come into the game on what has to be the best run of the season so far under Guus Hiddink we are unbeaten in 5 Premier League games (4 wins and 1 draw) Our last defeat was against you know who at Anfield after the shocking decision to send Lampard off turned the game.

Confidence is high and the team playing well. The run we have put together has been impressive because in the majority of the games we have kept clean sheets, won the games and have dominated possession. Added to this with Carvalho back, Essien back and playing well and Drogba getting close to form again it all bodes well for the Blue Boys!

Spurs come into the game on the back of 5 games unbeaten in the Premier League (3 wins and 2 draws) their last defeat was away at Bolton on the 31st Jan.

Their confidence will be up after last weekends win against Villa. The difference is at the moment they do not seem to have a settled side. The forward line varies from one week to another and the defence seems the same. From speaking to a Fan this week at work Zokora played right back last week. So the weakness is there. One thing in their favour is the Robbie Keane factor. In my opinion when he is on form he is a class act. As long as we keep him quiet i think we will do well.

My own opinion is that we will be too strong for Spurs. Under Guus we have maintained stability, established the team spirit and kept more or less the same side apart from one or two. With a complete weeks rest for the players and preparation i think we will be too strong.

The reason i say this is i don't really think Harry Redknapp knows what his best team is. Harry being Harry is having a look at everyone at his disposal and has done this season since he came in, a massive clear out will happen in the summer, but for now, because of the rotation issues and not knowing who his best players are and his best 11, it can only lead to a Chelsea win at 3-point-lane for me!

Champions League draw tomorrow!

Comments

Tomorrow at 1100 GMT see's the draw for the Quarter Finals of the Champions League and also the Semi Finals. As i have said in an earlier Blog Post after the Juventus game i am sure its going to be us and Liverpool again. I can see UEFA sorting it now (but thats my own personal opinion). I wouldn't be surprised if UEFA came up with a result of them and have the English sides play each other in the next two rounds.

Ideally, i would like to see Liverpool v Barcelona. Man Utd v Bayern Munich. Arsenal V Villareal and Chelsea v Porto. With the winners of the first two meeting each other and the last two meeting each other in the semi's and for Chelsea to meet either Barcelona or Man Utd in the final.

But at this point these are only dreams! Lets see what happens tomorrow. I will say one thing though, i think the other European teams left will want to avoid the English clubs and rightly so!

I will update tomorrow once the draw has taken place.

Jose - Happy?

Comments

In my opinion, Jose Mourinho does not seem the same managing Inter Milan to me as he did when he was with us. As soon as Chelsea sacked Scolari (which deep down i think we all agree with now we see the difference in the players and the team as a whole, but he still is a great man and we wish him well) and they announced Guus Hiddink is going to do Roman a "Favour" by coming in till the end of the season, I wanted Jose back! I think we all do!

Watching both legs of Inter v Man Utd his whole demeanour seemed distant, and nowhere near as passionate about his team as we was about us and our team. The passion he showed on the touchline in those famous wins at Barca, Blackburn, Charlton at home when we were presented with the title, Bolton away, and the famous celebration against Barcelona home when we knocked them out where he ran onto the pitch then jumped onto the players and took the plaudits with Frank from the Matthew Harding, is nowhere to be seen with Inter.

He seems a shallow figure of himself standing on the side of pitch almost pleading with his side to show some spirit and some fight (even if on another day they could of scored two rather than hit the woodwork twice) and he just doesn't seem the same!

Jose, come home.

Title Charge!

Comments

Title Charge

After Liverpool's win at Old Trafford and yet another 3 points and a clean sheet for the Blues against City at the weekend the gap is now down to 4 points. Yes i know Utd have a game in hand but at the moment its down to 4 points.

The Question is do we think we can do it?. I think we can. So far under Guus we have become more as a team this time, the energy levels are higher, the motivation seems higher and most importantly of all Carvalho and Essien are back.

As long as we keep playing as we have, keep winning games it puts pressure on the teams around us. Liverpool have a difficult game v Aston Villa, Utd have Fulham (who will be keen to prove a point after the embarrassing cup defeat the other week) and we are away to Spurs. If play like we have been i am sure we will take the points at 3-point lane. Its just comes down the the other two. Ouf of them both i can see Liverpool slipping up, as i am sure Rafa will rotate the squad.

Lets see what comes out of each camp leading upto this weekends fixture.

Match Report - Home V Man City

Comments

Chelsea 1-0 Man City

Well i have to say i was surprised by the team selection for the game. Mikel and Alex have to be gutted about being dropped to the bench but, they have to realise as soon as Carvalho and Essien were back fit they were always going to slot straight back into the side.

I was however surprised that Deco made a start too but to his credit he looked sharp and played well until he was injured!. But as usual Belletti came in and did a job.

Another surprise for me was that it seemed that Ballack was moved into the deeper holding role and i have to say he played really well. Kept it simple and there is no question that he can read the game well and looked at home in the position.

The one thing i didn't agree with was Malouda instead of Quaresma? are you sure?

Overall we dominated City and played really well. Just a shame we couldnt get hold of the second goal. So we are back into second place now ahead of the weekends games. We have Spurs away, Liverpool have Villa and Utd take on Fulham.

Lets hope we keep our momentum going but added to that the killer instinct to kill teams off sooner rather than later.

Matchday Home v Man City

Comments

Matchday v Man City

Well the next matchday is upon us and to be honest i will be happy with a 1-0 win today just so we pick up three points after the slip up from United yesterday. They were awful yesterday after a good night in the Champions League. The Scousers picked up from where they left off against Madrid and we need to do the same today.

Question is will he revert back to the tried and trusted "home" formation of 4-3-3 and if he does will Essien take the place of Mikel?. Will Anelka be fit to start today and will he be out on the wing again, If he isn't and Malouda plays will be sort himself out for once and give us a good game and get to the byline for a change rather than stopping and turning back and playing the ball back to Ash? Will Ballack step up today ?

They are all questions that will be answered in a couple of hours from now. All i know is, whether its 1-0,2-0 or even 4-3 we HAVE to get the win today and three points!

Preview v Man City

Comments

Chelsea V Man City

Well this weekend sees Mark Hughes bringing his money bags City to the Bridge with one or two familiar faces. Lets hope with their away record and our home record we take three points more on our quest to keep the pressure on United.

There is of course the small matter of a game at Utd on Saturday lunchtime and i never thought i would say it but will be routing for Liverpool to get a win!. I know what you are thinking, but needs must!

Will Guus stick with the narrow formation he played in Turin or return to the 4-3-3 formation that has served us so well. Also will Essien keep his place, will Carvalho return.

Lets hope whoever plays takes the fight to City from the off and we get a good performance from the lads. Ballack you owe us a game!

Big Four Through to Quarter Finals again!

Comments

For the second season running the "Big Four" are all through to the last eight in the Champions League for the draw that takes place in Nyon a week on Friday. A week on Friday? Seems slightly strange to me. Why wait for 10 days to make the draw for the next round. The obvious answer is because of the glitz and glamour of the draw being televised all around Europe and for representative from the clubs to make arrangements to be there. But i wonder 10 days really??

I am sure i am not the only Chelsea fan thinking "i wonder if there are already rigging the draw so we meet Liverpool again!" or "Chelsea v Man Utd is on the cards". I wonder how UEFA are feeling this morning knowing they have (Depending on the draw) another strong possibility of an all English final.

Like i say, it will be very "Interesting" to see the draw in 10 days time!

Juventus 2-2 Chelsea (Chelsea 3-2 on agg)

Juventus 2-2 Chelsea (Chelsea through on agg 3-2)

Well what a great result for the Blue Boys. If i am honest i was a little bit nervous before the game despite the recent upturn in our fortunes lately. I was surprised by the team selection and starting with Essien but to his credit the decision paid off.

Gus obviously had his game plan and for a split second it looked like backfiring when Iaquinta and Trezeguet played (you'd have to say) a brilliant one-two and he put the ball in the back of the net.

But to our credit we gradually began to find our feet and played our way back into the game. We have a lot of possession in games and this one was the same. Drogba's free kick was a definite goal even to the naked eye on TV and the fact that Buffon's guilty reaction to one of our boys rather than kick the ball down the pitch reiterated that fact.

We could of let this play on our minds and take away our focus, but Lampard stepped up once again and let another one fly which was deflected onto the crossbar beating Buffon all ends up and "The Bison" did great to follow up and put it in the back of the net!

Once the goal went in and we went into half time i am sure other Chelsea fans like me felt a whole lot better. To me it seemed game over.

Added to that the sending off helped us too. Just a shame Belletti's mistake (what was he doing by the way) gave away the penalty and it was calmly slotted (weak if you ask me) away by Del Piero.

Squeaky Bum time again for me i have to say even though we were only playing ten men!. But towards the end of the game Belletti made up for his mistake by playing the killer pass for Drobga to fire home and that was it game over!

All in all a great result even if at times done the hard way. I still feel we lack the killer instinct at times, and lack the final ball that can kill teams off dead sooner rather than later. Ballack still needs to step up to the plate if you ask me. He passing and work rate can't be faulted but he needs to put his Germany head on when he pulls on the Blue Shirt and get firing. But we have to remember we are ONLY five games into Gus's reign and i am sure he will come good just when we need him too!

Up the Blue Boys!

Arsenal Next in the FA CUP!

Comments

Hi everybody.

So it's Arsenal next in the semi final of the FA Cup at Wembley at 1730 on Saturday 18th April (On Setanta Sports).

Shame really the game is at Wembley as i am a firm believer in only the final being played there. Don't get me wrong i know its a great day out for the fans and its something you can say later on in life that you have been to. But, like i say i would rather say i have been there to watch the FA CUP FINAL rather than the Semi.

The other argument would be, "Where would you stage the Semi Final?" which is a fair point. I guess its a better option than to have to travel all the way up to the likes of Villa Park again as we did for our game a few years back with Fulham.

One thing is for sure, it will be a full house and a much more contested game that the other shown on Sunday. Both teams are one game away from the final and will be more determined than ever to go through.

The situation has changed somewhat for Arsene Wenger with the FA CUP being only one of two possibilities for silverware this season. For someone renowned for playing youngsters/reserves in cup games it was a whole different story last night against Hull and you have to say for an hour it was Squeaky bum time for them last night. Of course in the Semi Final i can only see him going one way and playing the big guns from the off.

Arsenal will be confident after their recent win against us at home in the Premier League. But, alot of things have changed since then. Scolari has gone, the belief is back, team spirit, fight and hunger just like in the Jose Mourinho days. We are a different animal at the moment and it doesn't seem as though anyone is able to tame us.

Arsenal again proved last night that they have weaknesses at the back. Due to injuries they are reliant upon Diaby who isn't in the same class of Lampard and Essien so let's see if Fabregas will be back, if so how match fit will he be. But to be honest i ain't bothered about who starts for Arsenal.

In Drogba on form, hungry and scoring goals we have possibly the best centre forward in the league if not the world. When he is up for it and on fire no one can stop him. Arsenal (at full strength) rely on two centre halves that can't stand each other but play next to each other and thats only good news for us.

Their midfield as i say is weak and has no comparison to the strength, creativity and drive of Lampard, Essien and Ballack (when he is on his game) so i can only see a win win situation for us.

Just remember, there is alot of football to play between now and then. Lets hope we are able to continue our recent revival and take it into the Semi Final.

Me at Chelsea 2005 (sorry about the quality)

Comments

This was me at Chelsea for a midweek game between Arsenal & Spurs in 2005 and if it was a draw we were Premier League title winners for the first time in 50 years! If Arsenal won it mean't we had to go and do the Business at Bolton (We all know what happened there!)

Sorry about the quality! This was recorded on Chelsea TV

A Chelsea Fans Blog for was created at the beginning of March 2009. The Blog is about all I see in the world of Chelsea and quite simply report about it based on my "Rose-Tinted" glass wearing opinions.

As you all know by now there are loads and loads of Blog's or Sites out there that do the same but hopefully I am trying to do it a little bit different. The Blog is written by me, Chelseadaft a lifelong Chelsea Fan through the good times and bad. I have been a fan from as early as i can remember and I used to help my Dad and Grandad on the old Fruit & Veg stall in North End Road, leave there at 1430 every other Saturday and take the short walk to Stamford Bridge and stand and watch our beloved Chelsea in the Shed end.

The ground has changed, players have come and gone, likewise managers but one thing still remains. That's our Blue Blood. I am and always will be Chelsea through and through like the rest of you.

So take a look around my Blog and please feel free to comment on any of my posts that you desire as the more public interaction the better.
